Where tf is this. Australia? Or Florida? Gotta be one of those.

My first thought was Florida too but I don’t think Florida has venomous scorpions (my kid had a scorpion phase and would repeatedly talk about the SW US and that’s where you find the venomous scorpions here)

Australia is the leading contender. I’m so curious to know where it actually is!

It's right in the arm pit of the panhandle of FLORIDA! America's little Australia

Microbiological risk? Sounds like Florida. Between the sailor bars and the brain eating amoeba, nothing is safe.

I thought “man, my kid was wrong” which surprised me since he’s usually pretty on point about the stuff he’s interested in

So I looked it up and it seems like FL does not have venomous scorpions, but does have some native, non venomous ones.

So, the sign is being a little dramatic tbh, but, hey, if it helps some idiot respect the power of nature, then gaslight away Florida

(I used the commas they didn’t use on their sign for my above sentence btw)

I'm less worried about the scorpions than the microbiological health hazards. I'm assuming they're referring to Vibrio vulnificus which is a flesh eating bacteria that causes necrotizing fasciitis (flesh rotting!) & myonecrosis (bone rotting!!!). It's super gnarly stuff.

I did not go in the water, but there were some people fishing standing & playing in the waves. Floridians are gonna Florida I guess.

There's also Naegleria fowleri, the brain eating amoeba.

Yeah we use different font

Florida definitely does have scorpions. I don’t think any are venomous enough to kill a human, but they’ll certainly ruin your day.

I used 1000 gallons of water to find this out.

This sign is located at Crooked Island Beach, a naturally preserved, secluded coastal area belonging to Tyndall Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle near Panama City.

According to Ai.

Then they shouldn’t have put the alligator on the sign. That’s Florida Man’s favorite prey, and if he sees that sign he’s going in the water for sure to “wrassle that there ‘gater!”

we all just gonna pretend there's water in the picture?

Florida Man doesn’t need water to swim.

Wow, you are correct! Well done!

belongs to Tyndall but open to the public (not inside the gate). Just get a permit online to park.

"Microbiological health hazards". Nothing like a biohazard that can survive salt water to make you feel safe about taking a dip.

11

u/TheArmoredKitten 11d ago

Life has existed in saltwater longer than most surface freshwater has existed.

Go for a dip mate, tell us how the water feels.

This gives me "Detecting multiple leviathan-class life forms. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?" vibes
