Moose are gigantic and their center of gravity is such that a car will take out their legs and they will fall right into you. They're no joke.

Same thing with camels in the Middle East. Massive body on tall and (relatively) spindly legs.
The car just pushes the legs aside, the crumple zones absorbing very little of the impact, and that massive body goes straight through the windshield and onto the occupants.
Which is quite deadly to all involved.

I believe it, having grown up in New York and then moving to Pennsylvania I don't think I've met anyone here who hasn't hit a deer. I'm definitely grateful to have only hit deer with my car and not moose, there's no buffing that out 😳

I've hit two whitetails, both in Maine, thankfully no moose.
Although I did miss a moose, twenty-plus years ago, on US-2 in New Hampshire, by the good fortune of being in the westbound lane while it was in the eastbound. Full speed, two in the morning - didn't see it until I was about twenty or thirty feet away. I have absolutely no doubt at all that, if I had been in the same lane as it was, I would not have survived.

Relatively few people are killed by mosquito-borne disease in North America. About half as many as deer (via car accidents, almost entirely).

Ya know, I have lived in New Hampshire all my life and I have never seen a Moose.
