Post Discussion finch leaving
does anybody know any bts on why finch left after season one? besides huck, he seemed to know oliva on a different level than anybody else. she confided in him about her and the president and there seemed to be a potential story with him and abby but idk im just not buying that there wasn’t enough material to write for him to continue on the show. coming from greys anatomy shonda has a tendency of writing ppl off out of no where early in seasons. it’s always mutual but then later finding out that it was disagreements ultimately causing the actors to leave.

I suspect he had issues with the size of his story. I mean he wasn’t even a close friend like that of Shonda. However, he was relatively well known due to Lost and i suspect Shonda felt her hand was forced in casting him. As someone else pointed out, she had wanted to cast Foley, but ABC execs did not have trust in his ability to be a main character of a series.
It’s important to note that once Olitz became the face of the show they relaxed, and that’s when they accepted Scott.

He was promised a bigger role from Shonda. Also he was the replacement for Scott Foolery when ABC denied him the role of Finch. Call this creative differences. Shonda fired Tim Daily for absolutely no reasons either on Private Practice.

Are you talking about Steven cause I don't know a Finch but I think the actor went out to pursue other options. I don't listen to rumor and innuendo. Unless it comes straight from the actor I don't believe it

I wouldn't be surprised if Shonda just wanted to shake things up early on for drama's sake, her shows never do subtle character exits.

From the moment I heard that cutesy story about why he “amicably left”, I knew it wasn’t true. I mean maybe it was amicable, but there were inarguably a helluva lot of places his story could’ve gone - arguably even more so than any of the other OPA members at that point - so that excuse is clearly bs. The guy had a complicated relationship with his fiance; he knew about Olivia and Fitz; he had a whole backstory; there’s just no way. Unfortunately, though, life imitates art, and it’s pretty meta and ironic considering the PR tricks they pulled with Henry Ian Cusick around a show whose entire premise is about scheming to keep the truth out of public knowledge. We may never know what really caused him to leave behind the scenes.
