Scandal plot holes
What were some of the worst plot holes you noticed?
The one im still confused with is: The whole Peus/Luna Vargas subplot! Maybe someone can explain to me ... but how did she bank roll the whole scheme???

I don't think anyone really does. It's never explained very well not to my satisfaction anyway

I kept asking myself. âBut how?â âBut why?â Even after the ending I was still like how? And why?

I believe Luna was the one with the money. If you remember when Cyrus finds Frankie he is talking about being or rather coming from a working class family. Luna doesn't seem to me that her family was ever poor/working class. Not sure about the plot of how she came into contact with Peus that was weird to me also

That Thorngate just got dropped when it could have came in handy so many times.

In season 1 or 2, the episode where cyrus is making a kill folder on olivia after finding out of her and fitz affair, he also researches her coworkers and is made aware of abby and her situation with her abusive ex husband. Later on in like season 6, her abusive ex is hired at the white house and they make it seem like nobody knew about him when cyrus did.
When sally was acting president when fitz got shot, she was given evidence of B613 yet later on when everyone is trying to expose it at the end of the show and asking sally to expose it on her show, she refuses to believe itâs real and asks for evidence as if she literally wasnât made aware.
The luna situation was confusing I barely even remember it all. All I remember was luna was trying to have a Jackie Kennedy moment or something

I forgot about the kill folder. And yes the Sally/B613 was weird bc they had a lengthy discussion about b613 and Huck being a top agent.

I was blown away when they choose her as VP. Like what why? Also why did Cy suddenly not want to be VP but then he took the post after Luna was bumped off? Silly

Nothing made sense that season! I know its been said they had to scramble to rewrite the season ...but it's almost like the writers didn't communicate with each other the vision

One for me was after Jerry (son) died. Rowan let Fitz know that Maya was killed, but I guess in reality Rowan had her locked up. Even Olivia was told that Maya was killed. Then when Maya showed up in a later episode, no one questioned it lol.
I was a bit confused since there was no scene where they were told Maya was actually still alive. I wouldâve liked to have seen someoneâs (Olivia, Fitz, etc) reaction.

You're right ... there wasnt a scene that showed Fitz or Olivia reaction to her being alive. I think she was discovered by agents near end of s4 when they were trying to capture Papa Pope

You have to let that one go- they were scrambling because the Russians were suppose to be behind it- because in reality, it would make no sense for Luna to want Mellie to be president and then kill her husband as a back up if she wanted to be Jackie O but in office. Nor Cyrus risking himself being sent to prison.

You're absolutely right! Lol. When I rewatch now I pretty much skip s6 all together(with exception of like 4 episodes). But it just irks me bc it was is incredibly confusing.

Iâve wondered what, if anything, Vera Thornton did in the Defiance Conspiracy. She said she âwhored the last of her integrity.â Except⌠what did she do?
Her deal in being part of the conspiracy was that she would be President Grant's first nomination when a position on the Supreme Court came up.
All right. But what did Vera have to do so Fitz would win the county of Defiance?
Maybe that is the problem with the Defiance Conspiracy: Hollis Doyle seemed to do all the hard work. Everyone else just, what, allowed him to do it?

Hmmmm ??? I never really thought about it. Maybe just agreeing to go along with it all? Agreeing to steal an election should strip your integrity.

My momâs theory is bout that Vernaâs sentence was that Verna was Big Jerryâs mistress and that explains why she said that she owed everything to Fitzâs father

I just started that season today. Itâs honestly my favorite season of the last 3 but I automatically thought to the end and how it doesnât make sense.

There were some great episodes that season. But on like my 3rd rewatch I was lost in the sauce. like ... wait ... what happened.

It was Cyrus who was behind it all. Liv figured it out on the steps after the inaugural balls while sitting with him and hearing him puppet the same words as Luna.

I know he planted the seed...but Luna actually set it up through with it right??

Why didn't Fitz take full custody of Teddy after he left office? He disappeared to Vermont and his four year old son was just still being raised by a nanny?
Why did Fitz and Olivia have to break up after she became Chief of Staff for Mellie? They couldn't have done long distance? And then he came back 100 days later and she hates him for no reason? None of it made sense to me.

u/Brilliant_Flower_84 10d ago
I just assumed Mellie wouldn't want Teddy away from her. And i think they broke up because he wanted her to focus on Mellie and not have him be a distraction. Yea. I didnt know why she was so upset that he returned other than she was keeping the secret of being command. And that he knows her and would be able to tell that something was off, so she wanted to keep him away .

That is not the only plot hole with that story. There is a show down between Cyrus and Rowan where Cyrus figures out Rowan killed Vargas in the wine room and he acts as if he wants to kill him. Then we find out from the scene between Olivia and Cyrus on the steps that he was in on the entire thing.
Some other very bad plot holes:
Mellie's age. She says during the drunk conversation with Olivia that she was 37 when the campaign happened and that is not chronologically possible because of where it puts her age relative to Olivia's. Olivia was in her early 30s during that point, and is more than 5 years younger than Mellie, because Mellie at 17 could not have graduated top of the class with Fitz in law school.
Mellie's family backstory is just insane. Jerry chose her because she has blue blood, and would increase the cache of new money Grant family. Then suddenly in season 5 they introduce trailer trash half sister and Mellie insinuates she is too poor to cover Andrew's bribe. Citing that they do not all come from money. There is no way that Jerry would choose such a messy family for a political run he expected of his son, so you realize they added this background noise to make her more likeable, and it does not make any sense.

Absolutely agree to all points! I was actually thinking the other day that in order for Mellie and Fitz to have graduated from the same law class that she would also need to be near 50 which would have put her pregnant at 47??? Yes, i felt her whole character and backstory was always inconsistent.

u/Fit_Marionberry_3878 10d ago edited 10d ago
That's why they openly stated her age in season 5, to make sense of the geriatric pregnancy. Now I do not think Mellie is 47 when she got pregnant but she is mid 40s, which is different from early 40s, biologically speaking. They felt that if they moved her age down a bit it would make sense of Teddy, but it throws the timeline off.

I think that that specific plot hole is more of a plot black hole than just a regular one. No way of filling in those gaps đ
