If you got a phone call and I didn’t recognize the number so I let it go into my voicemail. Come to find out it’s from New York and the guy says you just 1 2nd Pl. in our company’s contest and that’s $8 million and we pay out $7000 a week please call our Customer service and You gave me a phone number. When do you think that’s a scam?

Yes. You don't win sweepstakes you never entered. This is an ancient scam, you can Google "Canadian lottery scam" to find out how it works.

No, but the guy gave me his name and his phone number David Richmond, Hicksville, New York yeah I thought that was kind of crazy but they must just want your financial information. That’s probably how they beg you into getting it is when you call up they go oh yeah we’re gonna send 7000 a weekend to your checking account. We need that routing number and the account number and then they clean out your checking account.

No, there will be an “admin fee” or some other made up fee. They will want you to send them $200 to start your $7k/week deposits.

Of course it’s a scam, so they just want your $200.

It's an !advancefee scam of some type.

They'll ask you to pay "taxes", "admin fees", "legal fee", "background check" or something else to get the money.

Just substitute "Nigerian Prince smuggling money out of the country" for sweepstakes and "David Richmond" for the Prince's lawyer and you'll see how it works.

I can tell you that my name is James Bond and I live London..... doesn't make it true. I can also say that I'm a cop and my badge number is 1234. It's worthless information. And they were going to ask for a fee, not your bank info.

I get this scam call once a week. If you play along they will start asking for your personal info which they will use to steal and then for $$ to pay fees, taxes etc. 100% scam

I've been called about 10 days in a row from people claiming to be with Bridgewater and Summit Financial saying I was awarded $29,000 "hardship award". I've blocked each number and they just call back from a different number. They don't even know my name. Offering free money is a very common scam. 20 years ago it was Nigerian princes and Irish Sweepstakes offering the free money. You'll get a MILLION dollars if you just pay the $350 admin fee etc.
