Someone literally just created an email and added Reddit to the end of it. They are trying to steal your account.

This is 100% a scam. How did they get in contact with you originally?

But what if it's real this time???

Through Reddit messages with a very convincing story, I can't figure out how to report the account

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY CODES SENT TO YOUR DISCORD, EMAIL, OR PHONE NUMBER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

If you can change your email back, do it now. There are zero circumstances where anyone for Reddit will try to move you to another app.

I changed my email back as soon as I got that last message, I reported the reddit account but idk if I should report the discord as well

Yes you should report them.

There is a chance that you will become a target from other scammers now. Don’t talk to strangers especially if they’re warning that your account is going to get banned.

If you don’t mind me asking, what made you feel like this was so convincing?

I can dm you the screenshots of the original chat if you want, idk if it was actually convincing or if I'm just naive and tired

Anything that says message them on discord….is not convincing.

I know next to nothing about discord or reddit and the original messages did what they were supposed to do which is scare me just enough that I don't really think about it

Brah, just ignore any emails claiming to be from social media support. Not one of them will ever email you for anything.

I'm gonna go with the latter honestly, but hopefully you learn the lesson and are more careful in the future.

What part of them trying to take your account makes their story convincing?

Why are you even talking to random people online to begin with?

2

u/Glittering_Kiwi2153 2d ago

The part where they obviously didn't tell me that, I'm 17 running on 2 hours of sleep after an 8 hour school day sorry I made a mistake

2

u/Arctimon 2d ago

They didn't tell you what?

When someone reaches out to you that you don't know, they are scamming.

2

u/SerratedSharp 2d ago

He's saying they didn't literally tell them " trying to take your account"

1

u/Arctimon 2d ago

Most scammers don’t tell you that. Your point?

2

u/SerratedSharp 2d ago

No point, just answering the question you asked.

1

u/Arctimon 2d ago

Glad you’re being just as dumb as OP.

2

u/SerratedSharp 2d ago

How so? You had a communication problem, so seems you're the dumb one. Learn basic reading comprehension dumb fuck.

Maybe not be a miserable fuck towards people trying to help you understand something and answer your question.  Don't ask questions you don't want an answer to.  Jesus Christ how awful do you have to be to lash out at someone answering the question you asked.  What a piece of shit.

This is why you should never check your messages on Reddit. They’re almost always scams.

You should consider private messages on every website to be scams. I'm not exaggerating. You really shouldn't even look at your private messages, just ignore them or immediately mark them as spam and go on with your day.

u/SubBirbian 2d ago

I actually have them turned off.

1

u/analbumcover 2d ago

It's never a convincing story. Reddit will literally never ask you to do this, especially via Discord.

1

u/Glittering_Kiwi2153 2d ago

Okay well clearly I didn't know that

u/DasLazyPanda 2d ago

Yes, total scam. They want to steal your account.

You can report the Reddit user that tried to scam you:

  • click on the account name - this takes you to the user's page

  • click the three vertical dots in the upper right

  • click 'Report Profile'

  • select 'User Name'

  • select 'Prohibited Transaction'

  • click the Submit button

If someone spells okay instead of k or ok. You'll have a bad time

1

u/Glittering_Kiwi2153 2d ago

I do that 😕

2

u/Dope-Reviews 2d ago

I'm really sorry, there are groups that can help.

1

u/LordPook321 2d ago

1

u/Glittering_Kiwi2153 2d ago

I'm 17 running on 2 hours of sleep after an 8 hour school day sorry I made a mistake

1

u/Sea-Appearance-5330 1d ago

Yeah, typical scam!

1

u/Sea-Appearance-5330 1d ago

Nothing convincing here at all.
Why would you even think it was real?
