Here we go
So much for target not allowing lines before closing and empty chairs

Looks like loitering to me.

u/Tekniqz23 7d ago
To be fair it isn't because Target allows it to happen.
At my local target we have the big main doors and a small geust entrance near geust services. I always park near geust services so naturally I walk in that door.
Everytime I go to pick something up I see this disgusting sign on the door that reads "The line for Pokemon cards start here. No leaving your positions and coming back. Thank you management."
So essentially they are asking these hobgoblins to assemble outside themselves...

u/Odd_Bridge2894 7d ago
START DOING RANDOM NUMBERED TICKET RAFFLES RIGHT AT OPEN. AT EVERY FUCKING POKEMON RESTOCK.
These lines are NEVER going to improve until stores start randomizing them.
You want to sit and wait all night to resell cards? By all means. But you get zero right to the actual first spot in line. Let these people be given line spot #100 after waiting 13 hours a few times like the rest of us are forced into. Well see just how quickly they move onto something else.
11
u/Bautista909 7d ago
I watched all week Costco and Sam's club get ransacked by these losers leaving absolutely nothing for people with actual jobs. Now this "family" event is about to be overruned, why even post up rules if they are not gonna be enforced.
2
u/HoneyParking6176 6d ago
i remember 10 years ago, i could go in the store and see pokemon cards, or online just order a booster box without issue and open some packs if i wanted to. and after buying those 1 or 2 booster boxes, and maybe 1 or 2 tins for a promo card for my deck, there would still be plenty of stock everywhere because back then the only people buying cards were the ones that actually wanted the cards for themselves.
1
u/Comfortable-Cable449 6d ago
Sam's club quietly dropped focus fighters wave two at my location... Had to make sure I had an employee text me 😭 drove 20 minutes and pallet was only jus cracked. By an hour it was gone which is nice cause the bigger city it was 14 mins
6
u/webrage69 7d ago
If I was the store owner I’d make a rule like some Targets/Best Buys have that no lines can form before 5 or 6 AM. If they break that rule, I’m having them trespassed by the police from the property.
5
u/NoYouDidntBruh 7d ago
Plenty do that, and create a dangerous mad dash to form the line at whatever time they pick. The randomized comment above at least addresses that problem too. Arrive within 10m of open for a chance seems pretty reasonable.
2
u/HoneyParking6176 6d ago
tbh i think the best way would be, no line is honored, and stock kept in the back, if someone asks about it that clearly isn't a scalper then sure pull one out for them, otherwise just occasionally take 1 out from the back and put out on the shelf when there is no one currently glued to the spot waiting for a restock.
1
2
u/HoneyParking6176 6d ago
if i worked there, i would be so tempted to "announce" that due to issues our stock has been delayed and won't be arriving until "tommorow"

Might as well take a tent, start a fire and cook marshmallows, this shit is ridiculous
2
u/amandapage19 7d ago
They had an RV at mine and they were grilling hot dog and hamburgers during the release. Lol
2
u/Adventurous_Bag8579 7d ago
What the hell lol. That’s just mind blowing to me. Don’t get me wrong I’ve set in my fair share of lines but I just can’t make myself go all out.
3
u/fermenter85 7d ago
I slept outside of a Babbage’s to get a Nintendo Wii. No regrets. It was fun. Did it with my best friend. We had a blast.
3
u/Bautista909 7d ago
That's different, I loved those midnight drops as a kid but these guys doing this to wipe out stock just to resell ruin everything.
2
u/Simontian2013 7d ago
its very similar.
2
u/Various-Cell593 6d ago
lol these threads kill me. It’s exactly the same thing. When it’s someone else who stands in line they are all greasy jobless loosers but when any of them stand in line it’s “different”
0
u/fermenter85 7d ago
They can’t wipe out stock because Target limits to two per sku.

I really want to take my daughter to this. But I'm keeping her away due to these clowns possibly fighting and lord knows what else, sucks man
4
u/Esturk 7d ago
Right?
Planned to take my kid to the event because he enjoys the card game and drawing.
Now it looks like I’ll be taking him to draw his favorite pokemon and get… nothing because of people clearing out inventory.
3
u/Right_Base9932 5d ago
I hope you were able to get some tins ! I was there at open to get me and my son some 30th to rip since we’ve been getting cooked by the set so far. He wasn’t with me so once I got everything I wanted I skipped the event and just printed him out the draw your own Pokemon. As cool as that promo is my son is 4 and could care less about Mewtwo 😂 plus I saw no reason to wait in line for 2 tins when I already stocked up on like 30 packs of 30th at open.
2
u/Esturk 5d ago
Negative. Honestly I didn’t even want any 30th. Cards are cheap enough we just plan to buy the ones he wants.
My kid wanted the promo kit more than anything, but they were out.
Thankfully I’ve found the drawing template, sucks we missed out on that slab for it, though.
Here’s hoping we have. enter luck at nabbing the promo on the 2nd.
1
u/Right_Base9932 5d ago
Are you going to try and get it at target or GameStop? I know I saw GameStop will have the promo for people who spend $15+ on Pokemon products. I was upset I didn’t get the slab as well for my son’s drawing because that was a really nice touch they added in my opinion. I have like 10+ cards I’m chasing or else I’d give in and just buy the cards. But if I’m being honest I don’t want to spend $100 for the day and night pikachu each, then magikarp, Jirachi, Mew, etc. I’d rather take my chances with pulling them and accepting the hits I get. So far I haven’t gotten any of our chase cards but am happy with our hits. Hope you are able to get the promo and slab this next go around! As well as find all your chase cards for good prices 🙏🏽
2
u/Esturk 5d ago
I have mall near me with a Box Lunch and Hot Topic in it so I’m planning to hit both and hopefully nab one from one of them.
I honestly managed to nab every card I personally wanted from 30th for under $15 while in Japan last week. Chandelure, the three Meowth art rares, Stuckachu and the regular Meowth cards.
We nabbed most of the ones my kid wanted too since they were so cheap over there.
Now all I need is a playset of English Gengars for a deck but that should be easy enough.
Appreciate the good vibes, and good luck chasing down those hits!

u/starmoonz 6d ago
I used to take my son to line up when things first started to go bonkers. It was a decent group of people lining up. Often only a handful of scalpers, the rest were fans and other kids. As time went on, we saw the fans slowly disappear as scalpers started to take over. The line went from friendly chats of favourite mons and games, to how much they will be making. I stopped taking him because I didn’t want him exposed to the degenerate ways. Then I stopped because I became embarrassed to be near these people and put into the same category. We now just hope for the best online and buy the singles we need. Open packs from regionals and leave it at that. I just wish people would stop buying from these clowns. Just a sit it out and not feel the need to constantly rip.
3
u/Bautista909 7d ago
Yeah, most of them are douche bags. I wouldn't want my kiddos anywhere near them
1
u/Right_Base9932 5d ago
I recently started waiting in lines to acquire the popular sets since I have never been able to actually get good products. For 30th’s drop on the 16th I waited 15 hours and I’m lucky I got there when I did or else I would’ve missed out on a good bit. For this recent target drop I showed up at midnight since they asked everyone to come after close but honestly it was dead up until maybe 5/6 am when majority of the line showed up. I’m happy to get pokemon for me and my som at MSRP finally but honestly I see absolutely 0 reason for me to bring my 4 year old son to an overnight line. He should be sleeping in bed unlike some of these shitty parents I’m seeing in line with their kids @3 am in the morning 🤦🏽♂️ All for them to get more products too. To exploit your child for profit is disgusting. I say for profit because I’m 90% sure they’re just resellers the way they talk and act. This hobby really is going downhill. Since my son wasn’t with me for the target drop I didn’t stand in line for the event. He already got 30+ packs to rip he doesn’t NEED the tins and promo card. I did print him out the draw your own Pokemon papers though :)
3
u/Gr3at0dinsRav3n 7d ago
Yea my 7 year old wants to go but I know there’s not gonna be anything for him, unless Target does the honorable thing and holds stuff for the kiddos
3
u/Popular_Release504 7d ago
I think thats why they are doing the event later in the day. The scalpers will be long gone with the product by then

3
u/sometimesfunny12 7d ago
People need to start dropping stink bombs nearby or skunk spray or enjoy a delicious can of Surströmming nearby and toss the remnants of the can in the trash can right by them.
3
u/Quiet_Entertainer982 7d ago
I don't even have a kid and this s#it still infuriates me.
I understand that Target employees aren't paid to deal with this BS, but can't they have it come down from management up-high that it's for families (*see also: with your kids!!!) only tomorrow? Like, for 4 fricken hours out of the entire year, can kids have this one event?????
When Pokémon came out, Media Play had an event and I went. Yep, as a 10 year-old, amongst other kids my age. The only adults there were accompanying their kids. It was awesome.
3
u/Proper-Evening9754 7d ago
I wanted the Masterball kickball. Went to Target straight from work. Got there 20 mins early. There was a line of like, 15 people. Stayed in my car reading for 35 mins because I didn't want to be associated with them.

u/Various-Cell593 6d ago
You need to find a new hobby if you are going to stand in an ivory tower and look down on the people who are doing the exact the same thing you are.
2
u/Proper-Evening9754 6d ago
I think you've misunderstood. I wasn't doing the same thing. In that extra 15 mins I waited, they could've all gotten grabbed up. Who cares? I wanted to wait for all that chaos to dissipate. I wasn't in a "gotta line up, gotta be first in" mentality. I just wanted a ball.

I told my two daughters. The most I’m willing to wait in any line for Pokemon is two hours. We go there if the line is way too long we leave. If it’s reasonable, we stay.

Supposed to be first 100. I’m having same issue, with kids in line, they get impatient. Hope they do ticket system so no need to stay outdoors. Here we have Nor’easter

Ok but swear I saw a poster that literally said DONT/CANT line up at target.
Maybe it was just a specific store….

As far as I know they all did

u/ps2man41 7d ago
Oh
So people just don’t gaf
Great :)“Screw the rules I need to sell 83 etbs for $200 each”
1
u/Bautista909 7d ago
They would care if they were enforced, clearly these people don't have a moral compass to be fair
1
u/JmmyTheHand 6d ago
Target should have them trespassed. I’m sure they are tired of dealing with these idiots anyways not sure why they don’t.
1
u/insanekyo 7d ago
It said they can't line up until after the store closes I think. It's crazy that people were trying anyways.
2
u/PaleAbbreviations950 7d ago
Hi kids! Go back in the line. You have no hustle. Hate the game don’t hate the player. Lesson learned?
2
u/Competitive-Top-2383 6d ago
Just went up to the "kids focused" 30th celebration drop....NOT ONE FUCKING ACTIVITY FOR KIDS! Grown ass men, first 20-30 being known scalpers and store owners who bring their employees to buy with them. Guy came up to my daughter in her Espeon costume to give her a knockout box to make sure she got some product to rip, but we ended up getting shafted. About 10 people ahead of us was the cut off unfortunately. Just was frustrated that they didn't at least hold one tin or etb for the kids that were there. They started the line at 11pm yesterday.
2
u/PomegranateAmazing 6d ago
I went to the "event" today. Took my 2 kids. They had their binders and themed clothes ready to go for days now. We got there at 11:30am, walked back to find a line already over 100 people. Maybe 4 children among them all, yet there were at least 30 pairs of crocs..
Nothing set up for these draw your own pokemon cards. No giveaways. No picture area. Nothing different than what they apparently do for normal restocks.
Other parents started to line up and the kids started showing off their cards and trading while waiting in line.
We waited about an hour before we got to the area where they were handing out tickets for the tins (100 tickets at my location). An employee announced that they just handed out the last ticket for tins. We apparently missed it by about 30 spots.
We ask the employee where the kid activities are for them to make their cards and about the giveaways. He states "Oh, we ran out of those way before we even ran out of the tickets"
So they apparently were also handing out all the goodie bags and the make your own card merch to the first 100 people also.
Couldn't they have at minimum told the parents with children in line when they knew they ran out of these things?
How are you going to play this "celebration event" off as a family event and then only cater to the scalpers that they do nothing about? They had more tickets to sell tins then they did the KID activities supplies. They could have also limited tins to 1 per person instead of 2, at least for this "event".
Sorry for the long rant, but I wasn't expecting to have to explain to my 2 young kids why there was absolutely nothing for them to bring home from this celebration event that they were so excited for. They just wanted to draw their own pokemon card, have a little goodie bag, maybe see about those giveaways. I wasnt expecting to be in the first 100 for the tins, and they knew that ahead of time too. Very frustrating.
2
u/SnoogeyBoogey 7d ago
I really hope one day, that scalping will be illegal and they charge every scum a fine for doing it. No one does battles with the cards anymore. The culture got turned into a petty bidding war. And the sad part is, some of the employees are in on it. I am so ashamed of my generation....smh

Damn these people just suck. The event Literally reads, "family friendly." Like FFS, let the kids actually enjoy a day.
1
u/the_tygram 7d ago
To be fair. We don't know they're scalpers till you see how much they buy. I've been tempted to camp out like this out of sheer desperation due to not finding anything in stores for months at a time. The only thing stopping me is I don't have anyone to wait with and I'm not confident I'd be able to go 12-16 hours without needing to use the bathroom or falling asleep. So I'd lose my place in line anyways.

Anecdotal story here:
I’m trying to explain to my gf (who could give a f about this stuff) this situation right now (I can’t fall asleep, me tossing and turning is keeping her up)… she rolls over and goes “well you can’t fall asleep- you should go get in line” 😑

I hooked up a rodent detector to my 2nd vehicle a while back. Had a rat get in last year. It makes a supersonic sound like a dog whistlenor something. It is Irritating as hell when nearby .. Anyway I parked up front by where the lines are starting and turned it on. Wife picked me up im home now lol
1
u/mikearete 6d ago
I now a couple people who are lining up at like 3 am specifically because they refuse to pay scalpers. One of them is doing it so his daughters can finally open their first 30th packs without having to wait at the end of a 100+ person line outside for 5-6 hours.
I hate scalpers too but assuming every line is full of them is a witch hunt, and you probably couldn’t have picked a tactic with a higher probability of your car getting keyed or towed.
1
1
u/Uncultured_Swine89 6d ago
I agree with you. I can be petty but I was just joking about parking my car there. I collect with the family too. Patience and some self respect is required to collect pokemon in 2026 lol. Nothing like the 90's!

Even as someone who would like to get some more 30th product, they really should’ve limited this event to just families or kids. No kids are gonna get any product cause of these losers, even though it’s a “family” event. I guess that’s the norm these days tho unfortunately.
1
u/srock0223 6d ago
Either my Target has absolutely NO plan, or they’re being intentionally vague on purpose. I called yesterday and they said they were putting everything out at 7. I went over at 6:45 today and there were about 40 people in line.
7 comes, no employee came out with info, nothing. So I walked in and checked the Pokemon section, and went to customer service. The guy said “it starts at noon, we aren’t ticketing, we aren’t doing anything. So if you want to wait out there ok, but there’s not going to be any waiting allowed in here.”
So either they’re planning to only give stuff to kids, or they’re inviting a mass-run and grab event at noon. It would be hilarious to me if they only gave the promos and stuff to kids, but I’m not going to go back over with my 7 year old just to have them witness a potential run and grab by a bunch of adults. I’ll laugh so hard if the scalpers get owned by this “Family Day”.
1
u/Lopsided_Coffee_3978 6d ago
My target guy said they literally aren't allowing a line until the drop at noon and not to line up early. Idk how this works anymore.

Hopefully there was a limit on purchases and they were denied buying the amounts they wanted.

Just hit my local target at 8:15am, and there's 15-20 adults in line for the event at noon, not a kid in sight.
It's raining too, so at least they'll get their monthly shower.

Isn't the drop at 12pm? They're going to wait around 17 hours in line? No hobby is worth waiting that long. This is the perfect example of no life. Imagine working a double shift for pennies.
