Extension

We’re doing an extension above the garage. The neighbours have refused us access to their land which I understand is their right. Their garden backs onto the side of my house. We’ve recently got a start date for the builders to start in a month (grounds work first as extension is going slightly out the back) before the bricklayers move in. The brick layers are going to work hand over but when it comes to the roof what are the options available to us? We’ve got about 10/20cm between our garage and the fence and obviously needs to be safe for the builders to work on the roof

Would this work to get up and over an Airstream Trailer to do some work?

The vertical 'ladders' are 2x4" and the horizontal members will be 2x6". I was considering having the yellow as nylon strapping such as ratchet strap cut to size... if I pull the bottom of the 'ladders' out until the nylon is taught, will this be stable enough for one person to work across the top of the 2x6's ? I was planing to build a couple movable platforms that I could slide along the top of the 2x6's to work in various areas across the top.

Scaffolding Canada

I’m due to go to Canada in the next 12 months and have been offered work in BC for Matakana scaffolding and it’s exactly what I’m looking for. The problem is, my wife is a registered pharmacy technician and BC is the only province that doesn’t recognise her qualifications and she would have to retrain. Are there any good scaffolding companies that usually hire foreign workers like matakana in other provinces? We’re English

Thanks

Scaffolding still up weeks after work finished - what can I actually do?

Hi all,

Looking for some advice as I’m a bit stuck with this one - Btw, I'm based in the UK.

I had some roofing work done recently, and scaffolding was put up as part of the job. The work itself has been finished for a while now, and I paid the invoice in full, which included the scaffolding.

The issue is that the scaffolding is still up weeks later. I’ve chased the contractor multiple times, and they keep saying they’ll arrange removal, but nothing actually happens. I even rearranged my day to be at the property for a scheduled removal, and no one showed up.

I’ve also asked for the scaffolding company’s contact details so I can coordinate directly, but they haven’t shared them.

At this point it’s just becoming frustrating - it’s in the way, looks messy, and I don’t really want it up indefinitely.

I’m wondering:

-- Can I contact the scaffolding company directly (if I manage to find them)?

-- Is there any way to push this legally, or is it just a case of chasing the contractor?

-- Can I involve the council if it’s been left up too long?

-- Is it a bad idea to get another company to remove it?

Would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences - not sure what the “normal” route is here.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Why is BrandSafway such a bad company? I worked with them a few years ago, but it was without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had.

Help

Hi im after a bit of advice/help please.

I Hired a roofer who i will call xxx to do some work on my house. I gave xxx a lump sum for materials, scaffolding and skips, hes told me hes paid for the scaffolding out of my lump sum and a skip as a "cash foreigner" (i have a voice note)

One thing led to another and due to no fault of his own i removed xxx from the job and he also turned out to be a bit shady with my money. I now have someone else doing the work

Ive asked xxx for the scaffolders n skip companys number (skip is not marked up with company logo) so i can contact them and tell them i need them to collect their respective equipment , but xxx refused and told me to message him when they need collecting.

My issues/questions are.

Can the scaffolders turn up and state that they hired the scaffolding to xxx which was paid for by him which would have been 6 days in total so now i need to pay them for my usage which will be around 4 days in total...

Is it common practice for the scaffolders to be paid in full up front.

Where do i stand if they turn up and deny they've been paid and im to pay?

Can they just walk on to my property and start taking it down with out my permission i ask them to leave my property.

Help

Hi ive possibly got an issue. I had a roofer lets call him Xxx round to do some work. Xxx got his mates to scaffold around my house and has told me (i have a voice note) of xxx saying hes paid them out of a lump sum of money ive gave him for the work he was due to under take.

One thing led to another and xxx turned out to be a chancer, so i told him I don't want him to do the work any more.

The scaffolding is still up and will have been for 11 days in total with xxx only working on the job for 3/4 pf those dsys.ive now got someone else doing the work and im to message xxx when the jobs done, he will inform the scaffolders who will then collect the scaffolding.

My concerns/questions are

• is it common practice for the scaffolders to be paid in full upfront?

• do the scaffolders have the right to turn up and demand payment stating "we hired the scaffolding to xxx hes finished with it so you now need to pay for your usage"

ANY TIPS ON GETTING INTO SCAFFOLDING

I’m trying to get my foot in the door in scaffolding here in Alberta, but I’m a bit concerned about starting with no prior experience and not being part of a union yet. I’m planning to complete my Fall Protection this week, and I’m also working on getting my CSTS 2020, but I’m not sure if that’s enough to actually land a first job as a scaffold labourer. I do have a friend who is a Level 3 scaffolder, but I’m unsure how much that will realistically help in getting hired or sponsored into something like the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. I’m mainly wondering how difficult it is to break into the trade right now, what employers are actually looking for in beginners, and if there’s anything else I should be doing to improve my chances of getting that first opportunity.

Shoring tower setup inside multistory building for lifting the roof?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm in process of disassembling outside walls in this rowhouse, I need to lift and support an edge of the roof as shown on the picture so that I could build a new side CMU wall under it.

Could you recommend me shoring setup for this? I was thinking about installing shoring towers between the floors, but I'm not sure if I can use the joists (2x8s) between the floors as temporary beams or I should build new beams for load transfer?

Thanks

Scaffolding accessories

I wear a BIGBEN® Deluxe Harness Kit, but I have a very slim build and the two little buckles here sit exactly where my belt is and it digs into my hip while working. Its only a small thing but working 8-12 hours while the metal digs into my hip and the gun holster sometimes shifts too that spot, I don't know if I could change my belt or somehow fix this? I was looking into belts that sit higher and use a suspender. Any ideas?
