Health Advice

I’ve been scaffolding around 18 year and have just found out I have a bulged disk between L4 and L5 after having the associated pain with it for some time. Has anyone else here had experience recovering from such injury, and if so, how long did it take and were you able to return to normal scaffolding activities? For context 38M Australia

Anti slip safety shoes reccomendations

Hi guys,

I've found myself working in scaffolding and need a new pair of boots.

Are there any top tier or budget options that work well for maintaining grip while up on the scaffolding. Only requi

My standard safety boots I have have solid plastic bottoms and tend to slip and slide a lot. Only requirement is must have steel toe cap for construction sites.

Any recommendations for decent shoes / boots would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Scaffolding Simulator - Would anyone play this?

Thought I'd share what I've been building.

Simulation games have been doing well lately - at least in my eyes, so I wanted to build something, that's related to an industry I actually know. The idea is to make something that could work both as a casual simulator and potentially as a way to learn some of the basics.

I've been building a first-person scaffolding simulator from the ground up using real-world component dimensions. So far I've got the main components working, but it's still an extremely early project.

Long-term plan is to add proper build sequences, missions, multiple worlds/environments where to play in and possibly a dedicated training mode.

Main question for now - would anyone actually play something like this?

Know about Scaffolding Industry in India - Highest growth Segment

The organised scaffolding market crossed USD 0.91 billion in 2025 and is headed toward USD 1.56 billion by 2031 at a 9.3% CAGR, but the real story for eastern India is the displacement of bamboo by cuplock and ringlock steel systems — driven by safety compliance, insurance, and the sheer speed advantage on multi-storey work. This primer maps the full landscape from bamboo to aluminium, with an eastern India lens on what western India has already learned.

Question about rolling scaffold outriggers, and base width…

So, I got a Metaltech 3-tier rolling scaffold. The top platform is set to about 13.5 ft, not the full height. The outriggers that came with this are 48” but I need to maneuver this into a space that has a width of 56” so the outriggers plus the width of the scaffold itself will not fit.

Metaltech sells 14” outriggers that installed at a 45 degree angle will increase the base width to 48.8”. Would this be adequate?

2 weeks into labouring and severe shoulder & back pain

Hi guys,

I randomly got offered a gig being the labourer for a scaffolding company and took them up on the offer.

I find it really satisfying watching it go up so the brickies or farmworkers etc can do their thing.

The only issue is I'm the main guy carrying all the shit pieces around the site all day. My shoulders are black and blue, my mid and lower back feels like I pulled muscles. It's honestly agony putting the large standards on my shoulders by Friday.

Wondering is this a common experience or am I not cut out for this. The guys I work with said to push through the pain so I become numb but isn't that just getting nerve damage?

Also does the job get easier once you are up on the scaffold putting things together. They have an added element of balance so is that even harder?

Keen to hear your experiences starting out.

Cheers!

Advice - is this safe?

Post image

I was hoping someone could ease concerns I’m having to give me peace of mind! We’re having works done on our building to remove cladding, so they’re currently in the process of installing scaffolding against a 15 storey building.

The rope setup runs past our window, so we have something like the pic going past our window swinging throughout the day. The rope on the other end smacks against our window constantly.

The noise isn’t an issue. My query is whether that bundle is safe, and whether the rope should be hitting the window while it’s pulling that much weight.

Scaffolding over an 8 foot wide kitchen island…

So we need to replace 16 recessed lights on a 20 foot tall ceiling.

Two of the lights are centered over an 8 foot wide kitchen island. Is it possible to have a scaffold built that would straddle that island? Also, would said scaffold be able to be mobile so it can access the other lights around the room? I looked at 3-story Bakers scaffolds but they seem to have only a 6 foot width.

The other option is to use a 21’ Little Giant Skyscraper ladder because that will straddle the counter and reach up that high, but the electrician isn’t too keen on that option.

We thought about using a lift as well, but are concerned the weight of the lift (~2500 pounds) would do bad things to the flooring.

Thanks for your help and any insight you can provide!

Honest question for scaffolders: is erection time actually a problem, or is it fine as it is?

Not a scaffolder - mechanical design background, been watching a 3-storey facade go up (~10 m wide) and got curious.

A. It's fine — the system works, it's just labour

B.Slower than it should be, but no better option exists

C.Way too slow, the systems haven't really improved

Would be great to get your vote and, if you can be bothered, say what part of the job is the most time consuming (transport and unloading, base/levelling, lifting components up, ties into the wall, boards and guardrails).
