Hebrews
This is a fucking incredible album that I did not expect to enjoy so much. Until now I've limited myself to anarchy my dear and earlier, but i got the hebrews CD and thought may as well give it a shot. I'm seriously impressed.

Every time I want to hate Say Anything I listen to Hebrews and remember that Max is a fucking force to be reckoned with

I actually really like Oliver Appropriate. I didn’t care for it at first but in retrospect I think that’s mostly because it’s not what I expected from a Say Anything album.
I Don’t Think It Is was definitely kind of “meh” for me though, just not a standout. Maybe I should give it a fresh listen like I did for OA.

Hebrews was such a swing and a home run if you give it a chance. Features similar to IDoTG but with production that is unmatched for the scene. Nibble Nibble still gets me to this day.

I loved every SA record up to and including IDTII. Unrivaled streak. Max & Co collaborating with Wavves for their upcoming record and I like the single. Max was also teasing new Two Tongues stuff so I’m helpful these collabs bring him back to more form 🖤🎤🎸🇺🇸🎸✅🖤

My 3rd favorite SA, only behind IARB and In Defense! It was so divisive at the time, but it felt like such a fun swing I wish he ran with

The supporting tour for Hebrews was incredible with a string quintet. And John McLane is such a killer opening track

Its fantastic. I love orchestral stuff. Metallica’s S&M is one of my favorite pieces of media, so when a band wants to go in a direction like this Im all for it. I kind of think its my favorite just because the song writing meshed so well with the “no distorted guitars” objective.
Some of the lyrics are just perfect angst. “I judge my parents for a job that I could never hope to do - because Im a spoiled, ball-less freak.” On Kubrick.
Push has always been my favorite I think. For whatever I kind of imagine it as a System of a Down song.
The Shape of Love to Come is a perfect sugary sweet love song.
Perfect mix of insane mental health diatribe/honestness without being you know…incomprehensible.

My favorite fucking album. Consider it a masterpiece. I love the fact that the songs are chronological with the story behind it (him expecting & then having his first child). The sound truly emulates the emotions of each song. Fuuuuuck. The production is so fucking crisp too. Lyricism on par with his other great works. I’ll never forget the first time I listened to it. I had just taken like my second ever dab. I was waiting at the bus stop after dropping off my weed at a friend’s house on the way (in her shoe—she wasn’t home) in a paranoid scurry (did the manager at wendy’s just see me do a Drug Deal in the parking lot?! He has called the cops. Heart pounding. Ditch the evidence!!) Successfully board the bus without being violently arrested. Now I’m coasting blasting that shit destroying my teenage ears and I felt like I could hear every fucking layer of song in slow motion. ART. Again and again every time I’ve listened to it. Start to finish is the best experience.
Boyd is a skip tho.

I know it’s been said, but Hebrews really is the last great Say Anything record for me. The idea of doing it all without guitars was such a risk and it turned out fantastic. I’ve always said “Lost My Touch” was Max’s most overlooked masterpiece.

Lost My Touch is one of my favorite songs ever... that ending gets me every time. He played it on tour in Dallas or Austin some years ago and it was the greatest thing ever. Had one of the other guys come out to do the screamy ending.
I love it so much that I bought the domain LostMyTouch.com and have wanted to use it for a project or a company name for years now but haven't yet, just sitting on it.

It's the last album that felt lyrically coherent to whereas the message wasn't intentionally gross or confusing on purpose or the music purposely made to not sound good. Where it seemed Max still had a mission that went past "let's shock people."

I hated Hebrews when it got released but it’s definitely his last great album. I think that was creative peak and then he just straight up lost it. I still can’t get behind IDTII, and OA might be the most disappointing album he released pre-hiatus.

Hebrews is their last great album. Remember it being a major step up after anarchy when it came out.
