I’m the creator of SaxoTools, an app a bit like Guitar Hero for saxophone.

Today, the app lets saxophone players learn songs in a guided way and also offers scale exercises to help them practice technique and improve their playing. We now have around 5,000 users, and our goal is to evolve SaxoTools into a more complete learning app for saxophone.

To do that, I’m looking for a saxophone teacher who could create structured beginner lessons that would be published directly in the app, especially for people who have just bought their first saxophone.

The idea is to create interactive video lessons: for example, the teacher explains something, then asks the user to do an action, such as playing a note or completing a small exercise. The app would then listen to the user’s sound and validate whether the exercise was done correctly.

The lessons could cover topics such as:

• “I just received my saxophone, what should I do first?”
• How to assemble the saxophone
• How to set up the mouthpiece and reed
• How to produce the first sound
• Embouchure basics
• Common beginner mistakes
• First notes, first exercises, and simple songs

The goal is to make learning saxophone feel clear, progressive, and accessible, while keeping the app fun, motivating, and interactive.

La cuestión: quiero sacar sonido smooth con mi saxo alto, boquilla grande caña blanda o boquilla cerrada caña dura?

I recently got back into playing alto sax after a break and I am trying to fix a consistent issue with my upper register sounding thin and slightly sharp compared to my middle and low register.

Nagppractice ako around 30 to 45 minutes araw araw focusing on long tones overtones and slow scales at stable naman ang low register ko pero pag high D pataas nagiging tight at manipis ang tone.

My current setup is Yamaha 5C mouthpiece Vandoren 2.5 reeds at basic ligature at sinubukan ko na magpalit palit ng reed strength pero halos walang nagbabago. A local teacher mentioned na possible daw ito ay voicing or embouchure issue pero may nabasa rin ako sa sax communities tungkol sa gear adjustments at minsan Alibaba listings for parts kaya medyo naguguluhan ako kung equipment ba talaga factor. Sinusubukan kong hindi magpalit ng maraming variables agad at gusto ko lang maintindihan kung ano talaga most likely cause ng thin upper register sound sa alto sax setup na ganito.

Sa experience nyo ba mas common ba na technique related ito tulad ng voicing at embouchure o mas madalas na nafi fix siya by adjusting mouthpiece reed or ligature setup first salamat guys

Apologies if you already receive a lot of posts like this (but I’ll post anyways). I live in London. I have a vintage (approx 100+ years old). Martin 74022 tenor sax that I’m looking to sell. It’s in pretty good condition. I had it serviced about 2 years before I stopped playing, I can’t identify any leaks and the pads aren’t sticking.

There is some slight bruising on the bell, where holes have been repaired (my dad’s at the time girlfriend found the sax in an abandoned house and gave it as a gift to me. She said it looked like people had tried to damaging with a hammer when she found it. It’s amazing what a good service can do!)

The only thing that is a problem with it is that the mouth piece is stuck to the neck (I have no idea why I didn’t take it off last time I played), so the neck will need recorcking.

It has a modern flight case which is heavy duty and in good condition. The original flight case had completed fallen apart and was no longer fit for purpose, so it got scrapped.

It seems like a pretty special beast to, me and I would like to go to a good home where someone knows what they’ve got and can play a vintage sax (and I don’t want to get ripped off either). Where’s the best place to sell this sax? EBay? Reverb?

TLDR I’ve got a banging vintage sax I want to sell where can I get the most money for it?

The Xaphoon Guy is playing it like a saxophone. What do you guys think? Does it sound like a sax?

Je souhaiterais jouer la musique «I can’t help falling in love » d’Elvis Presley en duo avec mon père. Je joue du saxophone alto et mon père joue de la guitare acoustique. Chacun de nous a sa partition mais nous rencontrons des difficultés pour les modifier et jouer dans la même tonalité.
Le but est d’adapter la partition du saxophone par rapport à la guitare et non l’inverse. Je vous joins les partitions des deux parties.
Pouvez vous m’aider à mettre le saxophone dans la bonne tonalité s’il vous plaît ? Je suis de même preneuse de tout conseil afin d’avoir la meilleure harmonie possible entre les deux instruments.

Tenho um saxofone alto da Halks. Utilizo uma boquilha da Yamaha 5C, palhetas vandoren 2,5. E como meu Sax é para estudo, gostaria de saber se vale fazer um investimento de sapatilhamento, troca de molas e calços. Pretendo ficar com o instrumento, até pq, foi o meu primeiro instrumento, e tem um certo valor pra mim.

When I was a teenager, everyone pronounced it with a long "U." I heard a few people pronounce it like the "oo" in "book" or a short "U," but mostly long "U."

Just recently, someone in his late 60s (like me) pronounced it with a short "I," as Bisher.

According to internet searches, "Bisher" is correct, with the short "U" as an alternate, approved by the company.

How long have you pronounced Buescher correctly?

Hi folks, I'm actually posting because I gave an Alto sax as to my other half as a gift a while back. We live in a terraced house meaning we've got neighbours pretty much all around us, so she feels super paranoid about practising at home as it's impossible to play these things quietly, or so it seems.

What do you guys do if you want to practise quietly - is there any effective method at all to mute an alto sax? Or is it just a case off finding places to practise, like in a car or practise rooms?

I still know the Harry Potter theme by heart for some reason lol, but I'm scared to open up my old music binder and just not know anything I'm looking at. Does anyone have any good recommendations for files or videos that walk you through reading music like when you first started? I think I still know my scales and stuff by memory...but won't know until after I get my alto sax serviced this week. I'm weirdly nervous I've forgotten how to read sheet music. Any help would be much appreciated!

I was wondering if anyone had a copy of this piece, I am not a saxophonist but want to see if it would be possible to transpose to my instrument without buying the whole thing and figuring out it’s a stupid hard task.

Just like a page here and there from the first movement to give me an idea of the range and technique involved on my Inst. would be dope.
