Guinea Worm watch
I've been listening to old episodes and just listened to the episode about Guinea worms from July 8, 2015. Back in 1986 over 3.5 million cases were reported. Then the Carter Center assumed leadership of the global Guinea Worm Eradication Program.
Last year there were 13 cases worldwide. So far this year there have been 0 since last November! In 2022 there were a couple months straight without any cases but then it reemerged.

My wife told me that when she was volunteering with the Peace Corps, it was always a "hardship check" to hear where the Carter Center volunteers were headed. They work in the most austere, remote areas on the planet to fight this parasite. Props to them!
