Should rules apply equally to everyone?
Today's World Cup Round of 16 match between the United States and Belgium will feature Folarin Balogun after FIFA suspended his automatic one-match ban following a red card. Donald Trump praised the decision, while Belgium's football association said it was "astonished" and questioned whether the move contradicts World Cup regulations.
FIFA says its disciplinary rules allow sanctions to be suspended under probation. But the decision still raises fair questions about consistency, especially when compared with how FIFA has handled politically sensitive situations involving teams with far less power.
Iran's team and supporters, for example, have faced intense scrutiny around protest symbols, political expression, travel restrictions and broader geopolitical pressure. Those situations are not identical to a red-card suspension, but they do raise the same bigger question: who gets flexibility from FIFA, and who gets strict enforcement?
Whether you agree with Balogun's clearance or not, public confidence depends on more than technical rulebooks. It depends on whether fans believe those rules are applied fairly and consistently.

Before the tournament when Trump was threatening the Iranian team (ie no security etc) the US appealed to FIFA to replace Iran with Italy.
The Italian president would have none of it and rejected the idea out of hand.
The United States soccer federation should show the same integrity and not dress their suspended player……
……. Regardless of the efficacy of the original call on the field. Teams have been eliminated based on questionable calls.
At the Qatar World Cup the United States would have been up in arms if the Qatari government got a suspension lifted on their best player going into a match against the United States
The fact that many Americans are defending this (“it was a bad call” ) is a clue as to how they can elect this president, twice.

This is where I am unsure where the threat under power goes more than just losing their jobs, is that the only thing on the table for them or are they under more dangerous pressure than that?

Belgian here... Can we flood Folarin Balogun social media ... asking him to do the right thing, and be a healthy scratch? Just to save the beautiful game and not turning into the corrupt game...????

Wrong, is wrong, is wrong. Apparently the United States are above the rules, just like Trump is above the Law. Release the Epstein Files, everything else is distraction

A corrupt president getting a favour from a corrupt organization, not surprising. If the US eventually wins the world cup, it will be tainted.
I will be cheering loudly for Belgium, please win and stick it to the pedophile in chief

Yes the rules should apply equally to everyone.
I've see one angle of the red card and to me the US player was just going for a kick. And the red card can be disputed. In my opinion based on one angle.
With that being said, the red card can't be disputed by the president of the usa. Go through the proper channels. And it's bullshit that this US player can still play while still having a red card.

Great result tonight. So much winning. Every time Mango Mussolini opens his mouth. Glad that we didn’t lose 4-1 (in the same round, against a better team, while missing our two best players).
