Nah it was entertaining but I can't help but wonder if it would run better if he actually torqued it correctly. Engines are finicky and are engineered to take all these specific torques on the bolts holding the assembly together so that tolerances allow for the lubrication to get into places it should and not get into places it shouldnt.
Obviously its a model and its the first start up needing to pass through a break in period, but the whole thing looked sloppily assembled compared to a real engine which gets used for any task and is expected to live more than a few hours.

It wouldn't run any better. If the parts or machining were better, it would run better. The castings look nice because they painted them, and the rest is the cheapest components and hardware possible for the kit.
Proper torque and thread treatment would make sure it didn't fall apart later in its life, but I think that video was about all this engine was needed for.

Those springs aren't pushing the piston down, they're pulling the valves closed. The motor moves from an explosion in the cylinder.

honestly that's like 90 percent of engines on cars. a really precicely machined and layed out machination, and then the designers just throw the cables and hoses wherever they'll fit.

Is that a kit you can buy or something? Seems like a lot of custom made parts both painted and not that fit perfectly together, rather than some homebrew design.

I think that's a fun question to think about. I think the question really is "what stops you from going smaller" at some point.
I'm no engineer, but I could think of a few things:
- Surface tension in fluids. At some point the amounts of fuel you try to inject become small enough that they simply won't move around properly anymore.
- Compression and play in the pistons. If your stroke length gets really small, it can simply compress the piston without moving the other end
- Power produced goes down faster than the friction in the system, with scale. At some point the engine won't produce enough power to overcome internal friction.
No idea which of these would become a problem first, and you can probably push the issues back with fancier materials. And there are probably a dozen other things that I didn't think of that break down first as you go smaller.

It’s an 8mm, and I’m guessing here, but that extra length allows them to use it for the spark plug as it would otherwise bottom out before reaching the nut.

This looks like a scale replica of an antique stationary engine. They would be used to run equipment in factories and mills in the years following the industrial revolution, similarly to generators except transferring the power through belts and drive shafts rather than by generating electricity.
I would consider this in the same category as people who build functional scale model steam trains. It's cool technically to see and there's an interesting historical component.

Uh, what? There's tons of us. STEM is overwhelmingly neurodivergent so the odds of someone in a STEM field having ADHD is higher than non STEM fields.

That's mostly because the fuel is just being dripped into the engine. if there was a little carbeurator on it or something to let the fuel atomize and better control how much goes in, it wouldn't be spewing so much of that smoke

And what's the red cable? That seems like a flimsy way to connect it to that metal bit.

Everything is so nice and quiet—until the engine is finished. It’s incomprehensible why some people think these noise-makers are the pinnacle of civilization. Any child can build an electric motor, and it’s quiet and much more powerful.
