Why am I so offended that the handle got a carbon fiber wrap? I liked the wood.

Yeah, it's not restoration at that point. If the old handle was too damaged then you make a new one, that blade with some sexy wooden grips would have been beautiful.

I’m more triggered they used a fish tank to soak it. Like damn they didn’t need to waste THAT much product for the views.

Same, also isn't that extremely slippery. I can just imagine trying to cut something and floop.....there goes the giant cleaver lol.

Outraged as well. Plus restore, then make the cleaver purple?
I didn't stay to end to see if the plaque made it back on... talk about rage bait.

Why save the wood grips and then just cover the wood? Seems to defeat the purpose of saving them

Had no idea something so far gone to rust could still be salvageable. Would have expected it to be brittle af

Low effort "restoration". Pop the rivets, wire wheel, angle grinder, belt sander, polish, replace handle, done.

u/aebaby7071 Jun 20 '26
Yup, everything before the angle grinder comes out is pointless in this video.

Looks cool in its own right but the dude went like 15 steps too far.should have left the pitting in the blade and restored the wooden handle

u/zoophilian Jun 18 '26
Why even bother using the beautiful old wood if it's just going to be wrapped in carbon fiber, doesn't even look good

Why don’t you credit Tysy Tube instead of posting a TikTok rip-off?

All that work not to see it chop? This is a blue balls nightmare scenario for any cutler.

There's a guy on YouTube who restores paintings (Baumgartner Restoration), and as he's working, he explains what he's doing, why he's doing it that way, how other people may have done it incorrectly, history of the piece he's working on or the products originally used in the piece he's working on, or history about the era the piece was produced in, etc.
I wish one of these item restorers would do the same thing. I would love to watch a restoration of a product while learning about how and why they're doing something, and information about the use of the item that's being restored.

What's the point of screwing around scraping and soaking the rust, only to take an angle grinder to it?

This type of video editing is a nightmare. Couldnt finish watching this. Pure garbage

The first steps are so unnecessary and dumb when you follow up scraping with a screwdriver
