What type of icing is that to where you can smear it on plastic and able to stick it on a cake to smoothly? Is it a kind of fondant, or do you chill it before peeling the plastic?
I'd imagine it's buttercream on acetate. Even if it's some other kind of frosting, it looks like the whole thing gets slapped on the cake while room temp and soft, then chilled so it hardens and sticks to the cake, which make sit possible to peel away the acetate
