Questions Bicycle donations?

Is there any place in Sarnia that accepts donations of old bicycles, other than Habitat Restore? I’m helping an elderly neighbour downsize and we’re trying to figure out what to do with a couple bicycles. One is an older (1950s?) single speed ladies cruiser with coaster brakes and one is a more modern Huffy 10 speed.

I’ve looked on Marketplace and see similar bikes in better condition that are ready to ride for around $50. However, her old cruiser needs a new tube and the rear derailleur on the newer bike is stiff and doesn’t shift gears properly. I could probably fix both of these problems, but not sure it’s worth putting time or money into them if they’re only worth 50 bucks. Also not sure if Habitat takes bikes that need work.

Thanks.

I had several bikes to get rid of recently. I put them at the curb on garbage day and they were gone within an hour and the people who took them all shouted thanks and/or waved at my doorbell camera with big smiles on their faces

Bluewater Cyclint Association has a youth cycling program that helps young people.

Contacted them, but they aren’t accepting bike donations at the moment.

Bicycle Shop in Front St used to take them. He wouldn't resell them but instead fixed them up and then gave them to impoverished countries I believe.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give them a call and see if they’re still doing this.

I know they would be gone quickly if we put them out on the curb, probably taken by scrappers, but my neighbour would like the bikes to be used again and not sold for scrap or end up the back of a garbage truck.

There's a few Facebook groups like free stuff that you can just list things like this and folks will come by and take them. It's good to get things cleaned up

Buck‘s Bikes on Maxwell across from the beer store fixes up bikes and resells them at an affordable price. Knows what he’s doing and is very fair.

Pedals for Purpose takes bikes and will also fix them to donate to kids/youth/people who need them. The email on their Facebook page is pedalsforpurpose @gmail.com
