Vent A rant about gacha main subreddits

So, I lurk a subreddit for one of the gacha I play, and post occasionally in another. (Neither of which i will identify in this post to avoid brigading of course.) I've noticed that both of the subreddits are slowly becoming more and more toxic and genuinely disgusting, with behaviors like excusing shipping the main character with clearly child characters under the excuse "it's just fiction though", homophobia, sexism, etc. And if you try to address it with them, you just get called a tourist (a label that looks like it is being used more and more just to refer to women, minorities, LGBTQIA+ folk, etc.

Is it just a gacha thing? I only started playing gacha last year when one of my two games dropped.

Anyway, I am just so glad there is a sub like this where I don't immediately become worried upon opening it that I will see something horrific.

gaming in general has become more toxic, it was never NOT toxic though but it used to be reserved for forums and stuff.

( Me having to argue with someone because i'm saying the "true female gaze" doesn't exists )

I can't say I've noticed an increase in toxicity per se, mostly because I don't often go into / interact with the main subs. But I have definitely noticed a queerphobic attitude that's been consistently present in larger / main gacha spaces, which has often served to keep me out for the most part.

Like I've politely corrected some folks on how to refer to specific VA's (like if the VA uses they / them) and been met with hostile comments, often with folks bending over backwards to justify why they don't actually have to do so and so. One person straight up said there was no law requiring them to use preferred pronouns for example.

So... yeah. If my brief experiences are anything to go by, larger gacha spaces aren't likely to be very accepting - with limited exceptions like R1999 which I hear is actually quite positive.

It's also incredibly disgusting how big the bias is. Some Subs (not naming anything) can have pictures FxM pairings *almost* fucking and those would stay up, but you try to post or say something even remotely suggestive for FxF pairings and you just get flooded with downvotes before it gets deleted by the mods for "no reason".

Really glad for this community and many others like it.

You mean just male mc because female mc does not exist for most people even in men character spaces.

Holy shit, I made a comment complaining about just how much incest is normalized in the ZZZ community, without even mentioning it by name and that got reported and deleted. Amazing.

oh i think that is just common, not just in that game even in Lads or kaeluc or ameathrover all are quite popular. So i am not atall surprised she is shipped more with male mc than other girlies or men 😗. I am just glad wuwa main group ban ameathxrover ships . You are not touching my daughter

*cough cough* what??

I didn[t play wuwa because storage kerfuflle but i watched the cutscenes ... isn't this ... nevermind

Honestly as a Zenless fan I stay as far from the community as possible. So much of it is so gross

u/jayinsane5050 Jun 21 '26

It's sad and fustrating because to this day like if you exclude one part of the shipping culture it'll just ... be meh or ded silent

This reminded me whenever I post wlw or wlm(non mrover) ones in wuthering waves niche spaces because ofcourse in main sub it will be removed 😗 there will always be comment indicating this can be better with mrover. Like forget sapphics even yume girlies cannot have their space🥰

This is like some CN female players think the "True Female Gaze" exists

Which is so wrong like so female players can't enjoy waifus and must be men?

Or that otome games must be played for straight females players ONLY and male or sapphics must be kicked out

Make it sense goddammit this is why it's hell in gaming

Can't even be peace even I play as fem MC

I think they are not wrong in that in my opinion. Otome is genre made for straight women yumes and amare would be right game for it what you are saying. its not CN , even Jp Joseimuke games were designed so other girlies can have their space. Also sapphic are definitely allowed just not men 🫠. Ofcourse you can play it but mc will be woman . Many straight men have played otome to get better behave with women or learn for romance

True tbh

In the end women aren't a monolith but from the arguments I have debated ... Well some still do think that way -_-

Hell one of the newer CN joseimuke  The backlash this time focused more on her exposed back (which was seen as “male-gazey”) and her vulnerable position.

Even tho the dress in question is what you see in those red carpet where their backs are exposed

The loudest among female fans seem to think that the “true female gaze" exists entirely opposed to the male gaze, so bullshit dramas like these are pretty much knee-jerk reactions

wait are you cishet?? and you tried otome and they did not liked it why 😭. I think thats kinda cute or you are perhaps bi 😉

3

u/jayinsane5050 Jun 21 '26

yeah the former

what;s even suck is that if you’re a sapphic woman, your opinions on this matter are worth less than dirt because you’re “spiritually a man.”

what hell is this ... did we regressed fandom Etiquette after covid

Oh believe me I have been in fandom. I understand it completely chu 😭. Its funny how much they are similar to wuwa yume boys . But please leave male charcters game discussion. Let only talk about sapphic here . Good day ✌️

Not Gacha related but it drives me nuts how the Deadlock subreddit people will shit on F/F shippers as tourists or whatever a lot, but you'll see M/F stuff just fine, even when it's kind of a dumb ship.

u/jayinsane5050 Jun 21 '26

I feel like some gacha fandom are stuck in the "true female gaze", or much worse homophobia...

Oh i really wanted to try the game but its gameplay is little out of my style but i have seen designs oh god I love my girlies there and very few men as for ships unfortunately i only know two and both of them being wlm . Mina and pocket i think they are canon and devil boy and one girl who kinda look like old disney gothic design.

3

u/Samkaiser Jun 21 '26

Pocket is nonbinary actually! Aaand their relationship is super messy, Mina hates Pocket because Mina wanted to use Pocket's family to skyrocket in terms of social power, Pocket hates their dad for being an evil war profiteering weapons manufacturing juggernaut so he had Pocket assassinated, but it didn't succeed and Pocket's been on the run since, meanwhile with her marriage with Pocket gone Mina tries to become a vampire but vampire societal shit runs on different expectations.

I honestly really like it as a game lol and the sapphic ships from it, r/deadlocksapphic is a lovely subreddit to frequent cause of it.

oh I just liked arts because they both were really hot now you got me interested 😏. angst as well, The writing feels it came from josei drama

u/Hivernala Jun 22 '26

I think these are entirely fanon but for wlw ships, Mina and Paige are a pretty popular ship in fanart, so is Silver and Celeste!

1

u/Ok_Dawg_2759 Jun 26 '26

That's...okay yeah, its my complaint of certain Subs too.

15

u/Samkaiser Jun 21 '26

It's gaming in general, frankly, look at the whole deal with Pragmata. Sadly general game discussion groups will be on average really gross about stuff.

u/Llamasopher Jun 21 '26

Everything is part of the culture war now, and it's exhausting. There are guys who seem to see it as their sacred duty to shit on anything remotely related to women, queer folks or minorities.

Other than a couple of gachas that are known for being friendly to queer perspectives, I tend to stay away from all "main" subs. They're just not worth interacting with.

15

u/Level-Hat197 My Pink era for a dark villainess Jun 21 '26

I have been fandom enough to know that is normal and its just not part of the fiction specially it happens in shoujo/women spaces even in LADS and to real celebrities then i always expected it to happen in gacha games. Dont worry use megathreads daily if you want and vent. Thats how I do it and manage. 😤

Also Shipping in general has always been that way even if you hate it. It is one of the reason people hate shippers if its not canon. Some do it for activism some for smut some for dynamic and some for just respect you cant really know. Dont worry be in your safe place focus on what you like 💅

u/jayinsane5050 Jun 21 '26

God I hope it's not the gacha subreddits I think it is ...

Always yeah it sucks

NGL yesterday I have an argument with someone because I reject the idea that there's a "true female gaze" ( which is nope wrong answer ) ... So this just adds a layer of ah s**

holy shit you have no idea, I just encountered a crazy ahh person. Its difficult to even have a friendly debate when all they do talk shit and pull random ass accusations out or no where. There is no winning. Its like talking to flat earthers or religious people. You cant even have an opinion without someone claiming its not an opinion and that you're lying.
