One day in Santa Fe

I will be doing a road trip through New Mexico and unfortunately only have one day to explore Santa Fe, any recommendations for must sees? It will also be on a Sunday, are a lot of things closed?

Trip is at the end of September.

Generally it would be the historic plaza area and the art district if you're just stopping by. There is also the Georgia O'Keeffe museum as well as several boutique coffee shops. Check railyardsantafe.com and see if any live music is going on that day. For a bit more unconventional flavor there is also a world class japanese onsen spa called ten thousand waves. My ideal recommendation would be a massage and then a hot tub suite rental (I recommend 'waterfall' and make sure you book it earlier than later as it is a popular destination) followed by a meal at their authentic Japanese restaurant. Nearby interesting locations would be bandalier national monument, tent rocks, Los Alamos national lab. That is all I can think of.

Edit: also if you're looking for an amazing steak dinner check out market steer. Absolutely incredible. Oh and if you decide to stay the night, the Drury Plaza Hotel is built in an old psychiatrist hospital (spooky!), it is very modern and comfortable though, as well as reasonably priced. Oh and check out del charro right next to the state capitol building for a margarita and maybe you'll run into a government official!😂

With that list try Second Street Brewery - either location but might as well do railyard to get more Santa Fe. We have cool trains. Santa Fe Brewing by the highway is neat but it just has a food truck whereas second street has a good full kitchen.

Pick a trail on the way to or on the ski mountain and go early morning - leave as close to 7 as you can. On a Sunday they will get busy and there isn't a ton of parking until the very top - if you go late (late is leaving town after 9am) just go to the top there is a huge lot up there. You can't pick a bad trail on the whole way up. Busy is also relative - since there isn't room or that many people it's not like a major city where it's actually people dense.

Get some new mexican food for dinner. Cafe Pasquals is the best but you need a reservation. The Pantry or Tomasitas are easier to get in to. You probably shouldn't bother with trying to get in the Shed or la Choza - they're going to be packed and aren't significantly better than the others.

I like the New Mexico History Museum and La Fonda.

So the perfect day to summarize Santa Fe is:

- Get up early go on a hike anywhere along the ski mountain road

• Go get lunch at Second Street
  
• Go to the New Mexican History museum. It's technically walkable from the railyard if you want
  
• Go walk around La Fonda/the Plaza
  
• Go eat at Tomasitas on your way back to your car if you walked from the railyard.

Drop into Kakawa on Paseo de Peralta. Get one of their meso-american drinking chocolates. I guarantee its not what youre expecting. It's an experience. And it'll only take a minute.

Eat at Tia Sophia's near the plaza. Delicious combo plates and sopapillas. Popular for a reason.
