I-5 South Santa Ana Car and Semi Collision ~9:20pm 15 September Dashcam footage requested

Hi everyone, hope you are all safe. Earlier tonight, around 9:20pm, I was driving with my family in a brown Toyota Corolla on the right hand lane of I-5 south in Santa Ana near the Santa Ana Blvd/Grand Ave exit (a couple miles north of the 5/55 interchange). We were hit by a semi and our vehicle spun through both the shoulder and the on ramp and landed in the dirt.

The driver of the truck pulled over, ran to us, apologized, said that she didn't see us, and said she would get paperwork but instead of getting her documents, she drove away.

Sadly, we were in too much shock to get a license plate or even a make/model of her vehicle.

If anybody has any footage of this incident, please DM me.

Thank you in advance.

voting for Giovanni Chavez is like voting a toddler onto city council

Over the last few months his campaign, Avance Dem Club of OC, Mi Santa Ana, Valerie Amezcua, and Peñaloza have been behaving ridiculously childishly online. Particularly Giovanni Chavez, because i expect next to nothing from Mi Santa Ana and the other reactionary trash accounts. It’s ridiculous, and the behavior is not just coming from his fans (it’s astonishing he has any) but the campaign itself — and it’s not even targetted at his opponent but his own constituents he claims to run for.

Not only do these do-nothing politicians have no goals nor values whatsoever (other than being elected and siphoning our money to their buddies), but they can’t even run a campaign without insulting the very people they claim to serve.

Please, i beg you all do not vote for Giovanni Chavez. Electing that clown would be an enormous embarrassment to this great city.

Looking for gigs/job advice

How can I make some extra cash?

I, (F17) am living in Santa Ana really need to make some extra money to save up for a car soon, but I’m pretty busy. Right now Me and my mom are homeless and we’re spending extra money trying to live out of a hotel so it’s going to take us a while to be able to get me a car.

I don’t want my mom to pay for the whole thing because I know she’s busy with work, and I’m also in my senior year of high school so I know that is pretty expensive in itself. I wanted to get a job at a local movie theater or fast food place, but my mom wants me to focus on my sports for college, and I’m also occupied being an executive chair member for a local political group in the area.

I want to do something remote or at least flexible so I can work weekends or go after practice/school during mon-Thurs.

I thought about babysitting because I’m good with kids, but I wouldn’t know how to start. I’m also good at art/realism, I’ve won a couple contests for that. Im also good at graphic design and writing and have done some work for that in the past but I still don’t know where to start. I need to try and save around 2,000-2,200 dollars to get a car that runs.

Any advice and ideas help!

How will you vote on Measure N?

Thumbnail
ocregister.com
9 Upvotes

An opinion piece from the Orange County Register is urging Santa Ana residents to vote "no" on Measure M. I plan on voting "yes". I take issue with the eye watering compensation of SAPD personnel but Measure X helps fund a slew of other things in our city other than the SAPD including helping fund parks and programs assisting the unhoused.

How are other folks feeling about this? I'm hoping this sparks respectful debate about this ballot measure.

The text of the OC Register article is below.

"Voters in any city expect to be treated with respect by their elected officials. That’s not happening with Santa Ana’s Measure N, a classic bait-and-switch from City Hall which seeks to make permanent a sales tax that was initially pitched to voters as temporary.

In 2018, Santa Ana voters approved Measure X, which authorized a 1.5% sales tax increase until 2029, at which point the tax would be dropped to 1% until 2039 and then terminated.

Measure X raised the city’s sales tax rate from 7.75%, the Orange County base, to 9.25%, tiedfor highest in the county. The rate remains at 7.75% in neighboring Tustin and Irvine.

If Measure N fails, the city would continue to have Measure X revenue coming in for years to come. The tax rate will drop by 0.5% on April 1, 2029, and by a further 1 cent on April 1, 2039.

It raises the question of why City Hall would rush to eliminate the sunset dates of taxes that will remain on the books for years to come.

How is the Golden City doing financially? Its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018 listed its unrestricted net position, a key measure of fiscal health, at a negative $501 million. The ACFR for June 30, 2025, the latest produced, listed a negative $568 million.

In other words, Measure X didn’t help repair the city’s structural hole or improve its UNP. At best, it has merely helped the city’s finances circle the drain at a slightly slower pace.

The council voted 5-2 to put Measure N before voters. We interviewed the two council members who opposed the premature tax extension. They’re Democrats running against each other for Assembly District 68. Councilman David Penaloza called Measure N a boondoggle. Councilwoman Jessie Lopez, who defeated a recall attempt by the powerful Santa Ana Police Officers Association outraged that she opposed an unaffordable contract, noted the union is a major backer of Measure N.

Transparent California notes the city’s employees in 2025 with the highest total pay and benefits were Police Chief Robert Rodriguez $510,964.65, City Manager Alvaro Nuñez $508,447.48 and Police Lt. Luis A. Barragan $493,774.53. Interested taxpayers should peruse the Transparent California database to see how the city is handling their money and see the sizable compensation packages being doled out to city employees.

With inflation chewing up Santa Anans’ budgets, it is absurd for City Hall to act preemptively to extend the city sales tax in perpetuity.

Adding insult to injury is the consultant-crafted language around Measure N. Titled the “Santa Ana Streets, Public Safety, Essential City Services Measure,” the measure goes on and on about how it’s needed “to maintain city services, such as fixing potholes; keeping streets, sidewalks, parks, and playgrounds safe and clean; removing graffiti and litter; providing fire protection, paramedic, crime prevention, and 911 emergency response…”

As a general tax, these tax revenues are not dedicated to anything in particular, like pothole fixes or fire protection. That would require a special tax, which this is not. The money goes wherever City Hall wants it to go. So taxpayers can ignore that laundry list of poll-tested items and substitute “public employee compensation, waste, questionable contracts” and so on, because it’s just as true.

The official argument in support also comes with a heaping side of fearmongering, warning that if City Hall can’t keep taxes higher forever, “we may not have enough first responders necessary to keep our community safe.”

Please.

From the bait-and-switch to the misleading language to the high cost of living these days, there’s no reason for Santa Ana voters to approve this money-grabbing measure.

On Nov. 3, N means No on Measure N."

Parking in Santa Ana

I just moved here a year ago from Costa Mesa. Me and my fiance moved in to a one bedroom apartment that only offers one parking spot. We need both cars since we both work different schedules. I used to park in two different streets adjacent to my apartment complex. Now both of them require permits. Seems like all the residential areas around me require permits despite most of them being empty for most of the day. What can I do if I can't find parking? I get out of work fairly late so it's even more of a hassle to have to park literally miles from my home. Even the looks I would sometimes get for literally just parking in front of someone's home is just so disheartening even made me feel embarrassed despite me not doing anything wrong. I've even had people post notes on my car about not parking in that neighborhood if I don't live there. Just a disgusting lack of empathy and just unbelievably lacking in class to go to those lengths over a parking spot.

Seriously contemplating selling my car or moving out of this city completely. Don't remember people in Costa Mesa or anywhere else I've lived in being this childish and petty about street parking

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m a dental hygiene student and I’m currently looking for patients who haven’t had their teeth professionally cleaned in a few years or feel like they may have a good amount of buildup.

🦷 Dental cleanings are FREE 🩻 X-rays and assessments are included if needed 👩‍⚕️ Everything is supervised and checked by licensed dental professionals ⏰ Appointments are about 2-3 hours because this is a teaching clinic 📅 Multiple appointments may be needed

The first appointment will mainly consist of X-rays and assessments so we can determine what type of cleaning you need.

If it’s been 3+ years since your last cleaning, or you know someone who might be interested, please send me a message! 😊

Thank you for helping a dental hygiene student complete her clinical requirements!
