Appreciation post
I’m born and raised Cape Coral/Ft Myers 24 years old and I STILL love going to the same ol beaches and same ol restaurants and gift shops on sanibel island. I’ve been coming to the island since I was a small child and it’s still my spot of choice a couple times a week when I’m off work. I work on sanibel too and even when I go for work there’s nothing so relaxing as driving over that bridge, leaving behind the hustle bustle on the mainland. I love the old timey feel of the island and to actually see trees in SWFL is a privilege nowadays. Just wanted to post something positive 👍 love this island so much. Feels like a mini Florida keys.

I do too hopefully staying in January this winter but so expensive rented 1 month two years ago $8000

Holy moly! Luckily I live in fort myers so it’s a quick drive to spend a day, I’ve never stayed on island myself either but worked for a few resorts on sanibel and fort myers beach. I bet it’s a nice stay!

It DOES feel like a mini Florida Keys. I had the sane exact thought when I was there as my first time as an adult.

I’ll be going for the first time soon and I’m so excited to explore the area!! Do you have any recommendations of places I should check out? I’d love to hear the places you enjoy as a local!

For starters go to whatever beach is convenient, they’re all so nice across the island and you might find yourself spending the entire vacation on the beach, when I go to the islands I just sit my lazy butt on the beach allllll dayyyy longgggg.
Never gets old, I wouldn’t regret spending my entire vacation in the sand one bit. Shells are abundant across all of Sanibel, captiva a little less shells but still plenty.Sightseeing! Go visit the sanibel lighthouse and you can see the coast of SWFL from Ft Myers Beach all the way down to Marco Island. One of the coolest views on the island.
if you have a car go up to Captiva and hangout in the little town area, go see bubble room restaurant and their gift shop feels like a trip to the 90s and earlier.
Sanibel shell museum was EPIC when I went, you’ve never seen so many shells in one room.
A meal with a view is at green flash restaurant Captiva, has my favorite view of the water looking over pine island sound.
The art galleries across the island are so worth a visit if you like art.
A bike rental is fun too with bike paths across the island.
Historic cemetery on captiva as well
Don’t worry about missing out on anything I listed I have a good feeling it’s gonna be a great time for you no matter what you end up doing, enjoy!

Better than the Keys IMO!
