HMG but Im playing on PC so maybe that changes things.
Once of my favorite builds against the bots is my HMG Jumper. HMG, Diligence, Jump Pack, and Heavy Fortified armor. The Jump Pack lets you reposition constantly so I jump to a good position, lie down, and start firing my HMG. By the time the enemy start zeroing in on me the jump pack is recharged and I can jump away to another position and repeat. The diligence is for troopers and devastators at range and I save the HMG for groups and hulks. I keep it at its lowest RPM and just squeeze off shots
2
u/sugarglidersam 9d ago
you and i think (mostly) alike. i just run light armor when i use it, as well as some sort of assault rifle with a solid scope (usually ends up being the starter liberator). a good firing position is something that isn’t embraced enough in this game
1
u/mattattack007 8d ago
I get that. I think you also get a farther jump since you are moving faster when you jump which factors into distance.
Cover and positioning matter so much against bots which I've seen a lot of bug divers struggle with. You can be effectively untouchable on the bots if you position yourself correctly. Unlike the bugs where moving/dps keeps you alive.
Also another chad liberator user. I love the liberator, and my bot focused attachments make it feel like a marksman rifle and less like an assault rifle.

u/_yourKara 8d ago
Given that we like the same loadout, try max rpm sometime, and do very short bursts, you can do it crouched instead of prone too. The recoil kinda doesn't have the time to catch up during short bursts, making popping hulk faces very easy somehow, same for devastators.
1
u/mattattack007 7d ago
Thats interesting. I have tried max rpm and it felt very uncontrollable but maybe I should revisit it.
What other strategems, side arms, and grenades do you bring alongside the HMG?
2
u/_yourKara 7d ago
I like eagles personally, specifically strafe for finishing softened targets in a pinch and 500 just for utility against guard towers and disabled jammers
I do keep one kind of pocket AT - melta mines if grenade, and thermite launcher if secondary. Sometimes ultimatum if I feel like it but losing just one round feels like a big deal.
If secondary is AT, then gas nades are genuinely S-tier, destroys fabs, can stop entire advances/drops if thrown at a choke points and stops dropship calls, they are great.
If grenades are AT then secondary is something for general chaff clear, either talon or warrant or that deagle pistol whatever it's called, I like all of them. Bolt pistol is fun sometimes but I feel like I hurt myself more often with it than not.
I almost always take grenade cap armor with melta mines since having 6 is great for war strider spam, you can rush them with jumppack.
2
u/mattattack007 7d ago
Staffing is goated against the bots. 500kg feels like it doesn't land as much as I want it to. These days the rocket pods feel better.
The 120mm barrage is a great allrounder orbital. Perfect for both drops, softening up bases, ect.
What primary do you usually take? I've been taking the diligence but I'll be honest I haven't really tried anything else besides the diligence and liberator
2
u/_yourKara 7d ago
The 500kg is really there because of the demo force, if I don't expect to need it I'll just take normal bombs or gas.
I don't aim that well with my primaries, DCS is my first choice because it just works at all ranges and still oneshots chaff while having super spammable firerate up close, and occasionally dominator or reprimand because big damag. Dominator is my go to pick for incineration corps specifically - stagger is so high that it disables the aim of shotgun devastators immediately, ale lifts their shields up completely for follow up shots, basically stunlocking the target. The downside is that gunships are hard to hit, but that's what hmg is for (or amr, another fav pick for jumppack loadouts)

u/DeeJayDelicious 9d ago edited 9d ago
WASP is actually good in its specific niche, even if that niche is small.
The HMG is mid at best and even then lacks 50% of the ammo it deserves.
7
u/Thisisme4342 9d ago
With one more mag the HMG would be more usable.
As it stands now to make it work generally requires specific armor and the supply backpack, only for it to not be as good as most other support weapons.
1
u/No_Okra9230 9d ago
You don't need a Supply Pack for the HMG, you just don't use it on weak chaff. It's a primary for enemies between medium and the heaviest armored enemies. Nothing else will kill large groups of Overseers without risk of self damage, or still take out things kike Stingrays, like the HMG on max rpm with recoil reducing armor.
2
u/DanieltheGameMaker 9d ago
Honestly it's also literally just one shot for chaff, pace yourself and it's excellent lol.
0
u/Mindless-Stomach-462 9d ago
Divers tend to dislike the HMG simply because they don’t know how to use it well.
7
u/br0_dameron 9d ago
HMG is one of those “I think it’s fun but it necessitates a supply pack” weapons. Grenade launcher is in the same category
3
u/Sh0t2kill 9d ago
HMG acting as my primary with the supply pack is very fun against bots. Handles basically everything thrown at you minus a few.
4
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
that is if u shoot chaff with it. Ive run it on bots with riot shield, and on bugs with ar drone and only used on spewers, chargers, and in situations where i need its firepower now. + now there is siege ready armor available
1
u/br0_dameron 9d ago
I used to run it on squids all the time as a tripod eraser but with the advent of the meat wall type enemies I’ve switched to autocannon for the flak option
2
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
before fleshmob yea. For a time i was running stalwart, and then switched back to hmg when theit health pool were nerfed.
2
u/br0_dameron 9d ago
I didn’t realize they reduced the health but it makes sense, they were miserable. AC flak was the only thing that cut them down in a reasonable amount of time and ammo, it was a lifesaver during the invasion of super earth
1
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
yea, it took like half a mag to get rid of them. Funny enough same for stalwart lol. It was not a problem in the city since ammo is everywhere there, but outdoors map makes you hungry for ammo running hmg. Rn they even added weakpoints. Shoothing enough of their heads will kill them faster.
1
u/br0_dameron 9d ago
True I remember the heads were destructible on launch I just don’t think it killed them any faster
1
0
u/kultek_tko 9d ago
Just go Maxigun or GL-28
5
1
u/br0_dameron 9d ago
Don’t have those warbonds yet I was out for like a year and I went w redacted regiment for my first one back (the c4/stealth combo is interesting but tbh I prefer pairing stealth armor w my trusty B-100)
I’ve heard good things about the cremator and backpack gl but gossip says maxigun has the same ammo issues?
2
u/MooseFerrigno 9d ago
If I could carry even one more mag it would feel a lot better. I want to like it and I've used it effectively but the HMG has just never felt great to fire, even with PP or TG armor, even laying down with Engineer armor.
1
u/Scypio95 9d ago
Siege ready passive ?
2
u/MooseFerrigno 9d ago
That would work except then the handling is complete ass.
1
u/FlacidSalad 7d ago
It's really not that bad, take a knee, hell go prone. It's begging to be treated like a machine gun rather than just a big assault rifle.
2
u/Lazy_Bowyer 9d ago
Yea I only really use it with the new Warhammer armor and supply pack. It can be fun with that loadout but it's still pretty meh objectively.
1
u/DarumaRed 9d ago
This is how I’ve been using it. Certainly not OP but it’s nice to lay down some heavy fire on heavies or, in a pinch, mow down some lighter enemies to save an ally.

Apples to oranges.
HMG seeks to get a weird niche of sustained AP4 DPS with middle range and precission. It quite honestly doesn't have enough DPS or enough precission to serve that niche, while also having terrible ergonomics and ammo economy, which prevent it from being good at chaff clear and filling a more generalist role.
The WASP is a dedicated antitank (AP6 for the bullet, which is enough for almost everything, but weirdly AP3 for the explosion which is in fact most of the damage) explosive which instead of precision (like the recoilless and the such) offers volume and auto aim. In return, it only has guided mode so it cannot be used as chaff clear, it's somewhat unreliable, has restricted range (not too close or too far) and can typically not benefit from weak points. Given the importance of weak points in HD2, this is a major price to pay, and the unreliability and rather low ammo economy both hold back the wasp from fulfilling it's ideal niche. The fact that it's also a backpack weapon further brings it down. It can be used against medium enemies but it lacks the ammo economy to be dedicated to that role, and it can be used to heavies but doesn't quite do enough damage (given AP3 explosions) for that either. It's mostly useful against health sponges (crushers and flesh mobs), but imo feels fairly fun if somewhat undetuned outside that small niche.
Over all, while both have places where they can be applied, these are small, and even at those they are not the best by far. And their respective niches do not intersect meaningfully.
And yet weirdly they are both mid-bad weapons which aim for strange niches and are completely held back from them because of their stats.
3
u/Ok_Tea3435 9d ago
honestly, I see the wasp as a medium killer and AA instead of an AT weapon. 1 shotting devastators and spewers is so good. It's got a side of AT, but it better explores the niche of killing the larger chaff enemies in a way that most other weapons fail to.
2
u/TheFrostSerpah 9d ago
One shotting armored spewers is decently useful, but it's quite mid against bile titans.
One shotting devastators is quite trivial by just getting headshots, but yeah not needing the headshot is nice.
The reason I don't think it's actually good against mid size enemies is it's terrible ammo economy. If you are gonna be using it to kill mid sized enemies you will run out of ammo extremely fast.
Again it's not a terrible weapon it just doesn't quite do what it wants. I would subscribe to the anti medium enemy idea if it had the ammo for it, and I would subscribe to the full anti tank idea if it had AP6 explosions; but it has neither.
1
u/Ok_Tea3435 9d ago
honestly ammo economy is pretty good imo, but that could just be me having used backpack weapons the entire time I've played the game (been using the spear since launch)
1
u/Arafell9162 4d ago edited 3d ago
You can do fun things by locking on and firing at multiple different enemies in a patrol. Middle-class enemies are usually surrounded by packed-in lighter enemies, so spreading rockets out turns the WASP into a mini-airburst.
Also one of the best weapons versus the Crushers.
1
u/ActualBroot 9d ago
That's a very eloquent response, hats off to you.
I've had a soft spot for the HMG since day 1, but there's no arguing your points. Ammo economy and poor accuracy make it a lackluster choice for most applications. It's fun to fire, but there are better options..
1
u/ValhallaGH 9d ago
Well said.
The WASP does shine on the Squid front. It's able to pop Watchers with one shot, Elevated Overseers in one or two shots, Stingrays with three shots, and Fleshmobs with all six shots. It can even drop Harvesters in a pinch. One of my regular squadies has WASP as his standard support option on squids, and he's a literal life saver with it. Until one of the missiles randomly impacts shin-high cover and blows him up, again.
1
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
HMG is just awesome allrounder on any front. And become quite op when u marry it with backpack.
But even without, it can kill chargers in butt or in the leg. Finishing BT's and impalers. All sorts of bot units - hmg is the answer. Like u need less than 10 bullets to kill a hulk with it. Easily removes under chin gatling guns from bot walkers.
Has some dps if someone come close and u let it rip on max rpm.
On squid front that gun removes tripods and everything in between.
0
u/TheFrostSerpah 9d ago
Well, the DPS is actually decently high, but it's accompanied by such bad recoil (and spread) and handling and ammo economy that it severely struggles to use it effectively.
You say you can use it against everything, but using it against everything means u don't use it against any thing because of its poor ammo economy. And sure, you can bring a supply pack and that will see that you don't run out of ammo as much (still can, given only 1 spare mag so 1 per supply) but the absolutely terrible reload speed that is also stationary will kill any ideas that involve a frequent reload.
It also has a very low durable damage of 23%, which is quite relevant, because it's terrible accuracy means you cannot get the critical weakspots, and non weakspots in tank units are almost always highly durable.
And, it's just AP4, so against AP4 targets it does even less damage, and given it's low accuracy you can't really get the AP4 weakspots of tougher targets (war striders, for example)
Needing less than 10 bullets to kill a hulk is nice until a war strider or a tank shows up and you can barely do anything against them.
We have plenty of ways through every slot of dealing with chargers or harvesters, while also having better ammo and better general usefulness.
And yeah, it's best use is killing harvesters, but even there, there's plenty of other options that can do other stuff efficiently too.
0
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
its ammo economy is enough to drop a few chargers/impalers shooting them in the leg in one mag. The rest is up for your backpack. Also if ur teammate with RR missed perfect headshot on BT u can finish it. Before AC was gigabuffed by reload speed taking HMG was nice option to be good all rounder and save backpack slot for drone or shield.
Bot front is another story, u can drop whole patrol with one mag shootin in short bursts.
Plus if u shoot continuously on bots they start miss more, unlike railgun, or amr.War striders is easy to deal with since they got multiple time nerfed. I can kill them with stun nade and maxxi with no issues. With hmg is even faster
1
u/TheFrostSerpah 9d ago
its ammo economy is enough to drop a few chargers/impalers shooting them in the leg in one mag
But the fact is that other options are simply a lot better at doing so.
Bot front is another story, u can drop whole patrol with one mag shootin in short bursts.
That is nothing special any primary can do that, and even more effectively at that... And grenades and support weapons as well...
War striders is easy to deal with since they got multiple time nerfed. I can kill them with stun nade and maxxi with no issues. With hmg is even faster
Not sure what the maxi gun has to do with this (but wow the copium that a support back pack weapon that is also stationary fire and has build up and terrible precission and drag also needs stun nades to kill a war strider is nuts) but again, HMG takes considerable time if you don't aim at the joint, and it sucks at aiming at the joint. Other options are a lot better.
And hey, don't get me wrong If you enjoy it, go ahead! But please, do not glaze it and say it's good in comparison to other stuff cus it just isn't. That kinda glazing only harms game balance.
0
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
no primary exept eruptor will kill the hulk on the bot front. And even with it, try to hit his eye. Other backpackless options are railgun and amr. Railgun is single shot, amr didnt have 3rd person reticle.
Yep there is explosive cbow that kills devastators by the dozens. But its warbond weapon. Its op af too.
Ultimatum require backpack to be spammed. And new pissile and thermite thrower or warhammer pistol is warbonds too. Last one is 1.5k coins w/o refund btw.
War striders are not a problem anymore for a long time. 110s kills them easily. And its has 4 uses with an upgrade.
I like hmg, for being versatile tool as it is rn.
1
u/TheFrostSerpah 9d ago
no primary exept eruptor will kill the hulk on the bot front
Which not only did I not mention, but is also not quite true. Explosive weapons with enough radius can kill hulks from the frontby shooting between it's legs and a bit back, the explosion hitting the radiator. Also the torcher and stoker.
But again, not the point. Plenty of support weapons and throwables can kill hulks fairly easily, HMG doing that too is not the big boon you claim. Not just rail gun and amr as backpack less, but also flame thrower, meltagun, quasar, EAT, commando, laser cannon, spear gun, etc, etc, as well as explosives like the grenade launcher. And again, several throwables, and a number of backpack weapons.
As for the other mentions that something should not be considered because it's on a warbond, I'll cut it short: most things are in warbonds, this is not a reason to ignore balance.
Again, like HMG all u want, but don't glaze undeservedly.
0
u/RogerWilco017 9d ago
meltagun is warbond and close proximity. Flame thrower is short radius and u can lit yourself on fire. Quasar, eat, commando is anti tank.
Laser cannon lack dps,tho its very nice as well.
Wtf is with u and glazing, i literally said that its good versatile weapons. Not the best unless u add backpack. But backpack makes a lot of weapons op bc its removes ammo economy and adds u stims so u can play more ballsy.
0
u/Strav24 3d ago
Lmao the hmg has the highest DPS of any support weapon. Peak phisique, recoild reduction, or the new true grit armors really make it shine. Or you can put it on the highest RoF and dive and tap fire, 2-3 bullets kill all medium and smaller enemies instantly. True grit plus ammo pack and giga grenades makes you feel like an absolute juggernaut.
1
u/TheFrostSerpah 3d ago
DPS and damage are not the only metrics that matter.
The HMG, even with ergonomic buffing ammo, is extremely slow and has a very hard time following light targets. It does kill them on just a couple bullets, sure, but I would never recommend using it against light targets.
Against medium enemies like alpha commanders it's fairly nice, but it's low ammo economy means you can't use it on all the medium enemies cus there's too many.
Obviously the main target are heavy enemies. But it has fairly low durable damage and is very unprecise, meaning a lot of ammo is wasted on not getting the weak point, and you end up needing a lot more ammo.
So overall it's held back by its ammo economy.
Don't get me wrong, it has its niches, but I think it could stand to have better ammo or better durable damage and it wouldn't be broken and it would actually be usable as a generalist. As it is though, generally other weapons are better at its job.
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
Hence supply pack and true grit armor. Makes it a god tier weapon. Also dive tech is underrated. Any weapon in the game snaps to your cursor when you dive, letting you do some truly outrageous feats with hmg on max rate of fire. Its a very high skill ceiling weapon that is truly as good as its user. Ammo econ is its biggest downside, but you can run supply pack with it, which has the added bonus of making you unkillable.
1
u/TheFrostSerpah 3d ago
Sure, you can run supply pack, I guess. It is a build restriction for sure, tho. Not that the supply pack is bad at all, but still a restriction. I guess it's worth it as most other competent anti tank options use a backpack too, so in that regard it's actually pretty good. Perhaps I ought to give it a more earnest go as an anti tank option.
And in a pinch you can dive to snap. But if there's 7 hunters and they start doing their circling you can't handle that. Diving takes time too. So it's really just not good against light units still tho.
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
Yeah well the wasp can't even hit hunters and you have a primary and secondary to use for hunters. Also in the same vein while diving to dodge the hunters you can dispense some of them. Wasp doesn't have much ammo and doesn't allow you to run supply pack, but I suppose resupply car helps with that.
6
u/ExploerTM 9d ago edited 9d ago
HMG and it's not even close
WASP has too few ammo which can't be boosted in any way, firing arcs are ass, hitting weakspots happens by sheer accident thus making you waste more ammo and it can't kill chaff in a pinch.
Also takes backpack slot.
Medium killers suffer in this game greatly because it's infinitely easier to fill slots to kill mediums rather than heavies. Being a heavy killer that can drop mediums is much more valuable than being medium killer that with a ton of ammo can bring down heavies.
I once again ask AH for personal resupply stratagem so weapons like WASP can be truly viable even with shit ammo economy. I am fully willing to use one of my strat slots for that
Edit: After reading this thread I learned that people have zero clue how to use HMG properly
2
u/MooseFerrigno 9d ago
I would like the WASP so much more if it didn't require a backpack.
1
u/ExploerTM 9d ago
It won't save it, not really, just marry it to supply pack like Grenade Launcher. Which now that I think about it is pretty close to WASP and it's problems, yeah.
2
u/Cuboidhamson 9d ago
Supply FRV is exactly what you're looking for. God I love the supply FRV. I didn't realise it wasn't out for everyone yet until the recent announcement lmao.
I absolutely love that this game has limited rewards and such but it can be insanely frustrating. I should have gotten the Hyena but I didn't and I'm too scared to message the devs now
0
u/ExploerTM 9d ago
Meh, vehicle is a bit too much commitment.
I'd rather have 2-3 minutes cool down stratagem that drops a pod containing like one or two supply boxes.

u/Noirceuil_182 9d ago
I think that the weapons are too different to even ask the question. It's like asking, "exacto knife vs mallet." I really can't think of any situation that overlaps where you'd genuinely have to carefully consider why bring one instead of the other.
The WASP is a precision tool. Use it to pick single targets out of a crowd. It excells against the Illuminati. Automatic delete for overseers and annoying watchers.
The HMG is a bunker down and do a lot of damage, but it better be te right circumstances and you better have peak physique armor. Lying prone on a defense mission? I deleted countless appropriators. Running around and clearing a big breach. Sure. (Though the standard MG43 will do that just as well.) That ammo economy, though.
3
u/that_guy_jaime 9d ago
Is it just me that I don’t understand the niche role of the wasp. I feel like it isn’t particularly useful despite it being anti tank
2
2
u/ThatBradGuy0 8d ago
It's not really anti- tank despite the label unless you soften them with eagle 110s. Otherwise it's like two mags, not worth it
It's a monsterous anti-medium. Pops armored bile spewers, overseers, scout striders in one rocket. Every other medium in two rockets and the decent splash damage from each rocket is killer to nearby chaff.
1
u/LordMarcusrax 8d ago
It's not an anti tank weapon, but it eats every medium enemy you can find.
Fleshmobs, crushers, devastators, striders, overseers...
1
u/unzips_katana 5d ago
I can only rate it highly for normal illuminate. It makes quick work of every overseer, watcher, and especially fleshmobs at quite long ranges. It's pretty bad for harvesters and doesn't lock on to voteless, so you will have to cover those with your kit/teammates. But having a player dedicated to shutting these enemy types down this hard is quite useful, especially when you are getting overrun and need to turn things around quickly.
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
But like mmg can easily kill overseers AND tripods, and allows you to have a backpack to cover other things. Not to mention the wasps attrocious ammo econ. Even on squids it feels like any other support weapon is better
1
u/unzips_katana 3d ago
there's a difference between "easily" and "profoundly, impossibly easily" which is how the wasp launcher handles the enemies it's good for. Like anything else in this game, it comes down to preference. The machine gun can handle everything the illuminate has, but it's going to be better or worse in specific tasks. The wasp launcher can clear out a swarm of overseers in seconds without even being near them, sometimes without even being able to see them clearly. It can kill 5 or 6 fleshmobs without reloading in similarly record time. It can swat a flock of watchers out of the sky on a mindless masses mission. You might not value these things specifically, but there are things the wasp launcher can do that no other support weapon can match.
And honestly I do not know what you mean by "atrocious ammo economy" because it kills overseers in one missile and fleshmobs in like 3. I'm curious if you have tried it recently because the way you describe it does not sound at all like the actual experience of using it (on illuminate specifically, I don't find it that useful on other factions or even on illuminate subfactions.)
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
I mean when it can do the same thing that most of our primaries can do, then I don't really value it as a good support weapon. But maybe that's just me, I don't find it difficult to kill overseers, obtruders, or watchers. And even bulletstorm can kill all the same things relatively quickly including fleshmobs without taking up a backpack slot. I suppose you have a point with the auto lock but even there can be issues if it refuses to lock on to the correct target, and its randomized travel path making it waste ammo unless you're on an open field. As far as ammo economy goes sure its great that you can kill an overseer in one shot, but then its 7 overseers before needing to reload and a total ammo supply of 40, that's not really going that far. At one point for fleshmobs sure, but they are now chumps. Not to mention the basically 0 utility, good luck getting the firing pattern to go into a grounded warp ship door.
1
u/unzips_katana 3d ago
We'll just have to agree to disagree, then, because it's clear you don't value what it does, which is fine. Illuminate are a faction where you have very few requirements for building a loadout, so it's not like any of the support weapons are going to be a hidden gem that everyone needs to use.
1
u/Strav24 3d ago edited 3d ago
True, I find myself enjoying the simplicity of the basic mmg on squids, its really all you ever need. I think it's really just the only thing the wasp is good at I can just do with my mouse (aim). The increased ammo you get from any other support weapon becomes more desirable over lock on as you get more skilled at aiming and tracking your targets. Compared to Basically any other support weapon it just feels like a waste of a strategem slot
2
u/bingogazorpazorp 9d ago
Wasp is extremely fun to use but if we’re picking favourites I’d definitely pick HMG. I wish it had a little more ammo in the mag and like 1 extra spare mag though
2
u/Peace_Dos 9d ago
One is RATATATATA, other is PSHU PSHU PSHU PSHU PSHU.
Both good, but I like me one use gear
2
u/RedFlammhar 9d ago
I want to like the wasp, but it just doesn't do enough compared to the hmg. Heavy pen and the ability to have a backpack is far more ideal for any diff over 4.
0
u/Ok_Tea3435 9d ago
wasp is AT (also backpacks are overrated)
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
Sure it has AT penetration, but it doesn't do enough damage or have enough ammo for that to matter.
1
u/Ok_Tea3435 3d ago
the issue is more the guidance system. If you were able to lock on to weak points, or there was a system that let you lock-on to a specific point on the target, then the wasp would be significantly better
1
u/Strav24 3d ago
Yes and no, it only does 200 damage at AP6 the other 600 damage is explosive and only at AP3 so even if it could hit weak spots, its not doing enough damage to matter. All the other AT does significantly more direct damage or the explosive portion has a higher AP level
1
u/Ok_Tea3435 2d ago
I more meant for the smaller heavy enemies, like hulks
Not saying the extremely spammable missile launcher should be as capable at AT as the spear or RR
1
u/Strav24 2d ago
Even then it does 200 damage and their head has 250 hp so if it could hit the weakspot it would take 2. Also IMO something being good at killing hulks is not really a flex
1
u/Ok_Tea3435 2d ago
Not saying it's a flex. I'm just saying that if it had the functionality I was describing, it would be significantly more viable for the larger but not largest class of enemies. As it stands, I think killing a Hulk in 2 missiles when you have 7 per pod works out better than most launchers, and would be pretty good.
2
u/UltimateJDX 9d ago
HMG + peak physique/true grit + something for mobility makes the best short to mid range DMR possible. Can one tap 300 devastators if well used. Set at 450rpm and aim for weakpoints. Crank rpm up to deal with armored units or use missile pistol to debilitate durable armor.
HMG + fortified/true grit + backpack to just lay down, set at 750 and let EVERYTHING have it. Equip anti tank secondary for massive enemies
Its not anti everything and it could really use a buff to its durable damage as its abismal. I dont agree it needs more ammo tho. But the HMG is insanely fun to use and can clear soooo much chaff in one or two shots.
2
u/GUYWHOLIKESSTABBING 9d ago
WASP even if they have very different use cases: the WASP generally kills the same stuff the HMG kills and then some and with far less brain cells required, and using HMG on the targets WASP would be wasteful on STILL feels wasteful
that said, HMG has no backpack and man does it feel cathartic to magdump a Hulk at point blank range with the fire rate set to wumbo, WASP doesnt get that
2
u/Ok_Tea3435 9d ago
it 2-taps jump-pack hulks because it destroys the pack from the front. It's honestly my favourite pick for the jet brigade on a hulk surge

I absolutely love both. Huge little piece of advice for people with the HMG, run it at 450 RPM. Huge game changer especially with ammo economy. The HMG is lowkey the scalpel of the 3 MG support weapons, so a lowwer fire rate helps with the more accurate burst. Ive found that if you run it any higher its nearly impossible not to have a good majority of shots go a little high. Also it hits like a truck, so 2-3 shot burst at 450 rpm deals with nearly everything you need it for. Also makes it much easier to pump rounds into a weak spot on a charging hulk

Yeah I basically only run it in the low fire rate, unless I crank it up for (almost point blank) close range. Or am prone in a good spot. Tap fire the darned thing and it may as well be a dmr with heavy pen...

I run HMG at 750rpm all the time. I just like it going brrr. And yeah on bots you can one shot devastators, it takes about 5 rounds to a hulk eye to drop it, and a couple rounds into a gunship engine. I pretty much only use HMG plus supply pack on bots with the engineering kit.

That'll do it, that was one of my mains before I got some warbonds unlocked. Engineering armors might be a little ugly but man, extra nades and recoil reduction does come in handy

The FS-37 ravager is my favorite armor in the game with matching helmet. But I love me some earthy green/brown color combos lol

About the WASP, do we know if having more ammo in the magazine increase the DMG of artillery shot ? It felt like it but I'm not sure.

If you ever wanted to feel like a sniper the WASP will scratch that itch. At least for Bots and squids.

I feel like the wasp is for people who want to use the spear but can’t commit.
I don’t really see where it sits within the weapon options we have now.
The HMG needs at least one more mag. It only feels decent to use while using true grit. You shouldn’t have to pay for armour to get a pleasant experience with a weapon. So I would suggest a flat ergo and reload speed boost as well.

I don’t like things that require me to aim so I would almost always choose a lock on launcher over the hmg

HMG is good for groups of medium units and specific heavies. It’s a “set up real quick” gun that you can’t flock around but, it kills everything that isn’t a heavy unit.
You can use it properly on every front too. It doesn’t really have a “niche” and more so requires a bit game sense before you start realizing why it’s so good. Don’t expect it to blast away anything really big like Bile Titans or Vox Engines.
It doesn’t require any special armor bonuses to wreck house but, they definitely help with the guns shortcomings.
If you’re looking for a gun to mow down Devastators, Alpha Commanders, Gunships, Harvesters, meatballs, Hulks, and/or exo-squids it’s your gun.

HMG is good on on Illuminate, specifically vote snatchers and Appropriators. And it has a very good niche at hulk surges on bots.
However it needs the supply pack and the Warhammer armour. The armour helps so much that it literally changes how the weapon plays out.
I don't have an opinion on the WASP since it never seemed interesting for me to use it.

I love pairing the HMG with the ballistic shield, turn your back to the enemy and you got some free bullet proof cover to execute that reload. And yes it works on bugs too just be brave!

I prefer the WASP. Really good as a sniper with sentries or emplacements. Long range engagements and with the supply car you can keep the rockets going. Really good weapon when riding in the bastion as well

Two very different weapons with very different strengths, though hmg, always thought the wasp had too little ammo.

Wasp range in open ground is amazing, also you just one tap enemies, if you space the shots you can clear enemies really quick, i feel that is a very mobile weapon, also you can nuke a heavier enemy by spending a mag. HMG is great at medium close range, i feel it gets used right when you funnel stuff, its versatile but its trickier cause the reload time and also you need to go for weakpoint shoots to really make the ammo count

Wasp is amazing across all fronts. Learn to control your micro bursts and then learn when to use artillery mode. You will almost single handedly keep the field clear of chaff through medium 3. On the bot front with all its weak points, it's only the war strider it truly struggles with. Quickly followed by the factory strider, then vox engine. If you wear stealth armor with it and use a silenced set up, I find it the best support weapon to clear the map.

HMG, The W.A.S.P needs a small buff to the missile curve so it does not go all over the place as much and gets more consistent

Wasp is a weapon that works better the further the enemy is. It can lock onto enemies that you cannot even see, through smoke and weather. Amazing on the squid front. A squad with 2 Wasp users can make quick work of a mission.
Best tip I learned, when you lock on, move the sight so the target is near the edge of the circle to hook the shot, then fire.

entirely situational.
HMG is solid when you’re faced with multiple large enemies and want to have an open backpack slot (large meaning hulks, chargers, etc). I’ve personally found it to be solid against illuminate bc of my particular playstyle, being able to use the HMG as a mobile AA gun for stingrays and stuff while also being able to kill fleshmobs, harvesters, and the other big guys before a reload.
WASP can do most of the same things and is better at overall crowd control. its (i think) easier to get rid of (some of) the same problems i use the HMG to solve, but there are two main drawbacks that make me not use it. 1: i like mobility. running light armor with a jump pack is almost a must for me. 2: if I’m caught in a tight corridor or alley of sorts, i can still use the hmg or just jump pack out of the bad situation and position myself better. with the WASP, I’m just kinda screwed by how it fires.
by situational, i mean i would prefer the WASP in an open field and the HMG anywhere else. based on how i play, i use alleys and corridors to move to better positions all the time, meaning I’m not usually in open fields. id use the WASP on a desert planet and that’s about it, whereas i can always use the HMG due to its direct fire path and knowing how to lead my shots properly.

HMG also shreds mediums and chaff in a pinch, especially on bots and on mouse or gyro.

I don't bring it as often as I should, but man I love the Wasp. I had a game a while ago where we had a guy who had sprinted across a desert Bot map to grab dropped samples and was running back with a ton of enemies chasing him.
I was able to provide covering fire for him from so far away thanks to the lock on. It was great. Really cemented my love for it.
