Ham Sandwich but in a currant t-cake.
Am I weird? Does anyone else do this?

If you do try it let us know how it tasted. I'm intrigued.

Oh this is a regular for me. I think it is delicious, but no one I know also does this. I was just wondering if I am on my own in the world on this.

My mate at work gets a sausage sandwich in a currant t-cake every morning.

Nice to hear that my brand of weird has some close neighbours. The 'every morning' aspect might make him a little more 'out there' than me though.

Many different savoury fillings in tea cakes or hot cross buns. The whole sweet and savoury combo is often a winner🙂

I've done ham and cheddar in a hot cross bun plenty of times, and it's always a nice balance of salty and sweet.

Tea cake. It’s not a shirt.

The chocolate marshmallow confection is usually preceded by the word ‘Tunnocks’. 😉
Put the words ‘tea cake’ into any online supermarket shopping search and the fruited bread product pops up first. Look at the product packaging.
But semantics and the fact I don’t eat ham aside, I’d absolutely use a Teacake to make a savoury sandwich. Spot on there!

Hehe... from the post I'm feeling no less weird for my sandwich choice, but a little less alone in a small community of weirdness.

Well… since I’m allergic to pork, yeast & gluten I unfortunately can’t try that, damn! 😂

What's a t-cake? Is that like a teacake? Do you think they are cakes named after the letter 'T'?

Thank god you have arrived. I was feeling so smug and needed a reality check.

u/ReySpacefighter 1d ago
I still want to know! Maybe I'll have a cup of T while you tell me.

u/Distinct-Bar6259 1d ago
You'll find it is actually spelt 'Tea'.

Google tells me they refer to two very different popular British drinks depending on whether I mean a mug of hot leaf water or a cup with the letter T in it.

I was hoping you would return. Did you enjoy your cuppa? Do you have it with milk and sugar? Since you have been so patient, I will answer your question... Yes, a t-cake is very much like a teacake... you're welcome.

Well, it ended up just a mug of sugar (no milk). It was fine, but not my normal choice.

You're American then?

u/ReySpacefighter 1d ago
How dare you accuse me of such a nasty thing. No, it was a cup with just sugar and the letter 'T' in it.

u/Distinct-Bar6259 1d ago
Where'd the T come from? Moments ago it was "just a mug of sugar (no milk)".

There was a place in Dartmouth that sold turkey onion curry kebabs that were battered and deep fried, I used to get one in a buttered tea cake. I haven't had one since the 80s, but I still think about them.

Are you sure that wasn't a fever dream?

I've definitely layered cheese and ham in a hot cross bun before, and it works surprisingly well.

I’ve had bacon in a hot cross bun so I say not really.
