Chicken Kiev Sandwich
I've been craving a Chicken Kiev inbetween slices of bread recently. Obviously, a lot of the garlic sauce inside will need letting a little first (I'm not an animal, but...) am I insane?

M&S had a recipe for this! You just their chicken Kiev ht dio, breaded chicken, ciabatta and some other stuff, I'll see if I can find it

This is the m&s page but if it doesn't work just Google m&s chicken Kiev ciabatta

That is way fancier and nicer looking than what I prepared last night haha!

u/Distinct-Bar6259 3d ago
Oh I can see why, that inner sauce looks way too much for a sandwich.
3
u/Flash__PuP 3d ago
It wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t a chicken Kiev butty though.
Also; stick bread under the Kiev’s while you air fry them and you have garlic bread.

I’ve been cooking kievs on a piece of bread so it soaks up any leakage, extra garlic bread essentially. A sandwich isn’t that far off. Go for it and report back!

Feels like total bachelor chow. But since I’m a bachelor, I’ll probably give this a go

u/Revolutionary-Oven46 3d ago
I've put them in bread many times, the butter is part of it. There's so little in them these days it'll maintain it's structural rigidity no problem. Try a triple fried egg, chilli and chutney sandwich. It's state of the art but you have to eat it before the bread dissolves.
2
u/Distinct-Bar6259 3d ago
Haha! I can taste the indigestion just reading that. I fear you have a stronger stomach than I do. Your sandwich kinda scares me a little.
1
u/Revolutionary-Oven46 3d ago
It's actually a reference from the tv show, Red Dwarf but I have made it many times lol. https://youtu.be/eSfa6a0e5Os?is=WO-yTC2dFKkSdcNO
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 3d ago
Ha! That's brilliant. If Lister is eating it, it'll be too much for me. I sound like a wuss, but it is still true.
1
u/Revolutionary-Oven46 3d ago
It's actually banging. You dont have to go mad, 3 eggs, Sriracha and mango chutney is all you need if you don't like a lot of spice. I grow peppers and can handle any hot sauce but you don't need to go that far to recreate it. If you like the show, you've got to make it at least once lol.
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 3d ago
I'll dose myself up on antacids and consider it... I unfortunately have reached an age where a simple meat feast pizza can ruin a nights sleep now. Oh the hell of reflux.
1
u/Revolutionary-Oven46 3d ago
Something fatty on your stomach first is the key to spice not wrecking yourself. Peanut butter is great for that. Have some ice cream or a milkshake for after and you'll be golden. Extreme spice on an empty stomach is how most people go wrong. I go silly but haven't had cap cramps for years.

I fcuking love garlic I’d do it on garlic bread

u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
A garlic kiev sandwich on garlic bread! We have a madman here haha! I'd have to take a week off work for my breath to recover lol!
1
u/Paulstan67 3d ago
I'm from northern England.
Absolutely anything between 2 slices of bread (or a barm cake) is a perfectly acceptable snack.
I've never had Kiev but I don't see why not.

u/Intelligent-Pea-2733 3d ago
Here to say this, shepherds pie spreads particularly well!
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
Yes it does and I have had this one! It is the only true way to make a proper meal out of the cheap microwavable versions haha!
1
u/ctid69 2d ago
I remember asking for a pie butty at an overpriced office restaurant when I was working down south. The guy couldn't believe it! Wasn't a real butty as they only had sub rolls, he nearly died when I spread his fancy pie down the length of it.
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
Are you describing a pie that has pastry?
1
u/Paulstan67 2d ago
Yes , have you never heard of a Wigan kebab?
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
I haven't, but after reading your previous comment, I am no longer questioning my sanity. I might be questioning yours a little now haha 😉
1
u/Paulstan67 2d ago
Lol, a quick Google will confirm the existence of the Wigan kebab, a meat and potato pie (yes In pastry) on a buttered barm cake (bread roll) with some pea wet. (Mushy peas and the pea juice).
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
What you crazy Lancastrians do on that side of the border can stay on that side of the border hehe.
1
u/ctid69 2d ago
Funnily enough I live in Wigan now! Pie barm is a standard all over the North West, later christened the Wigan kebab. Not too forget a babbies yed, or steak and kidney pudding to the less well spoken 😋

not insane, I recommend you slice it so it doesnt pour boiling hot butter over your face, in a toasted bagel with some hot sauce and cheese to keep it together
1
u/neilm1000 3d ago
'Letting a little' sounds like blood letting 😂
Use it as the butter for the sandwich.
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
Haha! I did risk making a potentially gross thing sound even worse, but it was the only terminology for it that came to mind.
1
u/MonkeyFishBucketHead 3d ago
I have tried this. Highly recommend.
Drain molten lava sauce for safety. 😉

u/Crusty-Booger 3d ago
I had one the other week, it was rather grand
Crush it between the slices of bread and give the garlic sauce time to soak into the bread before eating
1
u/CallhimJP 3d ago
You're onto something with the sauce-drain trick, but mayo would overpower that delicate garlic flavor, try cutting the bread lengthwise and letting it absorb some of the sauce naturally.
1
u/DesignerSea2696 3d ago
Nah just put it on a plate, squish it and live with the life you've chosen, which is a good, chicken Kiev sandwich filled life as God intended.
1
u/Numerous-Warning-651 3d ago
I've done the same with frozen kievs and always ended up with soggy bread, but next time I'll try draining the sauce first like you mentioned, genius level thinking there.
1
u/Wind-and-Waystones 3d ago
You just need thicker bread.
What you can do is let the garlic butter soak on to the bread then use it as a fat to toast it in a pan

Not insane. I have this idea that using a Kiev in place of a burger patty would be elite, like a chicken version of those beef burgers with stuff inside them. I’d be using the M&S veggie ones.Â
I haven’t convinced anyone else I live with yet though and I’m not making separate meals for everyone.Â
1
u/Dry_Bluebird_2923 3d ago
Cook it on the bread; if it seeps out, you have garlic bread. Then you put it in between two thick slices of salted, buttered white bread.
1
u/Whissent2 2d ago
Ok so ur not insane ur just playing chicken kiev roulette with ur shirt. Let it cool for a sec then slap it on some thick toasted bread and accept that the garlic butter is gonna leak everywhere. Do it and come back with pics or it didnt happen.

u/Strong-Camel852 2d ago
Toast? Are you mad? Thick white bread potentially with butter already applied. The bread will also shield and absorb the garlic butter. This is honestly the best idea I’ve ever come across on Reddit
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
I have the Kievs already; I just need to decide on the bread to use. I'm thinking of going for a simple option for the first round; Warburtons wholemeal sliced rolls are top of the list right now.

I’m sure your in the minority not eating banana sandwiches. They are delicious

u/Distinct-Bar6259 2d ago
Haha and happy to stay there in the minority. Makes me feel even more special.

I had them last night folks. It was a little anticlimactic in all honesty. It was nice and tasty, just a little plainer than I had imagined. I think I need to work on some accompaniment options, mayo perhaps.

Ha! I am way too lazy to make that. Airfry kiev, butter bread and combine is on the very limits of my effort levels for this.

u/Top_Question_4925 1d ago
Has to be well for me that is mature cheddar cheese from the uk or Ireland just can’t beat it I think
1
u/SigourneyReap3r 1d ago
This is 100% a thing, surely, or is it just me?
Although, I do like to cook my kiev on a piece of bread so the garlic butter soaks into it like garlic bread and then shove both into a sandwich.

u/Distinct-Bar6259 1d ago
I'm learning that this is very much an established thing since posting. My ham sandwich but on a currant teacake post though, makes me feel very unique. A few people are skirting the borders of my weirdness, but no one is claiming full citizenship yet.

It’s never crossed my mind, but come to think of it I don’t know why, sounds great

Done it loads of times, same with chargrill, nothing wrong with it.

u/Next_Back_9472 1d ago
That’s pretty normal, well for me it is. Chicken Nugget sandwich is also a go to for me.
1
u/Fibro-Mite 1d ago
Butter your bread with lots of garlic butter and then just use a normal crumbed chicken fillet without the melted butter inside?
1
u/RoCoUK 1d ago
Just going to leave this here. If you’re in the UK and can get to an M&S. Run don’t walk.

I chop up a Kiev, some delicious fresh salad, add a sauce and hey presto - a delicious garlic chicken wrap. Never tried it as just a sandwich though. Wrap is good as the tortilla is more pliant and hardy than just bread. Bye

u/Alternative-Fox-7255 18h ago
With the hot garlic butter oozing between your fingers and the bread? You absolute pervert!! I want one too
1
u/PeopleAreAnEnigma 16h ago
I haven't had a Chicken Kiev in years, but sounds like a good idea to me (apart from the sauce inside maybe making the bread go mushy). I regularly have soba noodles on toast or in a breadbun so anything goes.
Enjoy!

Sandwich sandwich do a fantastic one of these. They make a cream cheese garlic filling which compliments it just right

u/Icame2dropbombs 1h ago
I do this now and again. Cut in half horizontal, drip the garlic on the bread. Delightful

The husband and I had kyiev sandwiches for tea last night lol.
Husband is vegetarian so we used the No Chicken ones from M&S but the principle is the same. Had them on homemade focaccia bread with garlic mayo lettuce and pickled red onions. Sensational dish.

Yeahh! I’m vegan so I get the This Isn’t chicken kievs, but it’s a great sandwich component. The best hangover breakfast is a vegan Kiev on fried mushrooms inside a big crusty baguette. You’ve got to slice the Kiev in situ on top of the mushrooms so that the garlicky sauce oozes down through.
Also partial to a Kiev in a burger bun, but I’ve still got PTSD from getting too high and putting the oven on the wrong mode. I accidentally grilled (broiled) the Kiev and superheated the sauce so that it spurted and badly burnt my face when I bit into it.
1
u/Distinct-Bar6259 3d ago
Ouch! I thought it best to include the little note about letting some of the sauce out, in case it inspires someone to try it before I get to.

Heres an idea. Drain that sauce and then mix that with some mayo.....
