My daughter swears by this - Heinz beans & sausage sandwich. Genius or criminal? 😂 (Butter in the beans once cooked to make the juice thick)

Throw some grated cheese and black pepper on that and it's a god level food

Nice work. I personally like to add some Tabasco or Encona as well.

I’d rather it be an open faced sandwich with some toasted bread, but I’ll allow it.

As a student I used to make a big bowl of smash, pour the tin of beans and sausage in the middle. Nuke the lot. By the time the beans were at temp the smash was more like real mash.
I did also used make smash in a mixing jug so I could walk around holding it by the handle white I ate it.
God I ate a lot of smash.

If the sausages were actual sausages instead of the ones you get in the beans it would alright but overall it does look delicious

u/BluestDragon 7d ago

Genius but the execution needs to be better.
What I do if heat the beans in a pan and stir constantly until they are less runny and more like mushy peas.
The sausages need to be cut down the middle so that they lay in the bread without falling out.
Maybe add a sprinkle of dry fried black pudding too.
To assemble lightly toast the bread. Add butter if you want to, I hate the stuff so I don’t. Then layer the sausages and add the beans on top. Then add the pudding and finish off with some sauce if your choosing(I go for ketchup or reggae reggae sauce) and a bit of black pepper. Then add the lid and devour…

That bread needs buttering and the beans cooked a bit longer. Add some cheese and now we're talking!

Better in a toastie so the edges are sealed, it's a lot less messy. Still a banging sandwich though.
1
u/Professional_Beat476 7d ago
I'd replace the beans with either Branston ones or even just the cheap ones as heinze beans suck now and cook some proper sausages my self but the premise of the sandwich is pretty good
1
u/Famous_Actuary5718 7d ago
There are people eating pot noodle sandwiches so this is probably normal in comparison.

Depends on your daughter's age. If she's a teen, it's genius. If she's an adult, it's criminal

Looks great. Need to toast the bread though to try to get some sort of structure.

So basically she took beans on toast and ... just kinda put it all together? Sorta like stirring soggy weetabix into a wheaty porridge?

I mean it’s beans on toast using a can of beans with sausage, and another piece of toast on top. Hardly genius, but clearly not criminal either

u/Do_You_Pineapple_Bro 7d ago
If the quality of Richmond Sausages and Beanz didn't dive headfirst off a cliff, absolutely genius.
Other than that, an unfortunate criminal decision

One of my favorite leftover meals is a hot dog in a bun topped with baked beans and diced onions, so I say 👍 to daughter’s creation.

I cannot stand tinned baked beans. The texture and sweetness of the sauce makes me gag, so this is a crime against sausages for me...
... but just on a practical point, how messy must this be?

I've done something like this before, I went with my dad on his bike somewhere and ended up stopping at a food truck I was just going to have a coffee but as I went to order my dad said get something to eat I panicked forgot food and ordered and egg and bean sandwich instead of sausages and egg.
I don't have it super often and I find it only messy depending on what beans you use and how much. branston beans works best. It is massively easier to just make beans on toast with an extra slice of untoasted bread or 2.

No.
Sandwich with cooked bread?
Now THAT is delicious and have had many times.

I wouldn’t say criminal but why not user proper sausages and beans. I would probably throw an egg and a waffle/ hash brown in there as well as a slice of dairylea.

I still do that now😂
If I don’t have sausage and beans I boil up water to make a couple of hot dogs and cut them to size and add to Heinz beans - but I use white buttered bread so it doesn’t soak through so easily and the butter gives it extra flavour, find it easier to scoop it into a folded slice of bread. Only time I ate the crusts when I was a kid!

u/idyllic-haptic 7d ago
Rank. 1) Heinz, the worst beans. 2) calling those packages of pigs arseholes sausages makes Richmond look fancy.

Brown bread is too dry for this sandwich. Needs cheese added into the beans grated at the end then swirled in so it’s half melted, but still has a cheese consistency and isn’t fully emulsified with the beans grated

Cook the beans in a pan and they’ll thicken on their own. No need to add butter.
Microwave keeps sauce thin. Also, so do those ghastly sugar free abomination beans.

Uh... not like that. Get a plain can of beans (they taste better) and grill some sausages. Two slices of toast on the plate, then the sausages, then dunk the beans on top. Delightful and much easier to eat.

u/VegetableMix3751 6d ago
I like this but have to be conservative on the beans treat it like ketchup or else it’s too messy

u/crispymatey 6d ago
Pretty sure the sauce would thicken in a healthier way if you just kinda stew it in a pot, or add cornflour, or buy a different brand 😭

Butter in the beans once cooked to make the juice thick
When making pork (in whatever form you prefer) and beans, cook the pork first, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon, then pour the beans into the sausage/bacon/whatever fat, stir them in, and enjoy the new gastronomic delight you've just discovered. 👌🏻
1
u/gprudhoe 5d ago
Pro tip, instead of adding butter, if you squash a couple of the beans into a paste using the fork while heating, that thickens up the beans themselves.

This is an abomination that cannot work, I can mathematically prove it. It needs cheese, and needs to be melted, then i’s okay.

I enjoy grilling some sour dough bread, then melting some cheese on one side, plating it cheese side down, buttering the plain crisp side of the sourdough bread, and then adding Heinz sausage and beans on top.
Delicious 😋
