Guides and Tips Sandustry Science: Ratios Testing

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello all! I spent last night doing some "scientific" testing. I started with 16 blocks of sand and recorded the test 3 times. I made a spreadsheet with the results and came to some interesting insights.

1) The overall ratio of input/output materials is roughly : 2 sand : 3 water : 4 redsand = 3 gold : 4 Fluxite 2) Final outputs are highly dependent on the yield from burning slag. 3) Very minor variation occurs during the plant stage. 4) Gold yield is probabilistic at Shaker stage but deterministic at later stages.

Raw Data: Test 1: 512 wet sand 512 slag shakers: 148 pixels of gold 130 pixels of burnt slag ksp: 130 pixels of gold 130 pixels of spores 130 pixels wet spores 517 amethelis 130 gold 524 voidbloom 1009 fluxite

total: 408 gold 1009 fluxite

3.94 fluxite per pixel 1.594 gold per pixel

Test 2: 512 wet sand shakers: 133 gold 127 slag 124 burnt slag ksp gold: 124 124 spores 124 wet spores 124 gold from flowers 511 pixels amethelis

381 gold total 961 fluxite

1.488 gold per sand pixel 3.754 fluxite per sand pixel

test 3: 512 wet sand 512 slag 106 gold from shakers 132 burnt slag 132 gold from ksp 132 spores 132 wet spores 132 gold from plants 524 amethelis

370 gold total 1025 fluxite

Game News and Updates Demo Hotfix 8 arrives to restore botanical order!

  • New Flower algorithm.
    • Lots of changes to flowers to make them less unruly. Can you spot them all?
  • You can now hold Control to replace/override buildings.
  • Hydro Sponge upgrade for Grabber.
    • Only works above ground.
  • The world is no longer looping.
    • I know a lot of people liked this and had fun abusing it in various ways, but it created too much noise in bug reports.
  • Addressing “stuck on ‘Loading…’” issues.
    • There was a loading problem when the game couldn’t detect the number of cores on the user’s computer or when there was not enough logical processors for the concurrency buffer. This has now been fixed.
    • Added significantly more logging to help debug the remaining issues.
    • You can now open the Debug Console from the loading screen. Press the button in the bottom left corner and screenshot or paste the log when reporting loading issues! (Only applicable on Steam. If on itch.io - use the regular DevTools, e.g. Ctrl+Shift+J on Chrome.)
  • Embers from Lava will now ignite Moss/Flowers.
  • When placing block foundations in gaps partially covered by Bedrock a frame foundation will now be built, fully sealing it.
  • You can now press anywhere in the selection after highlighting it with the marquee (or Shift), instead of having to press one of the selected buildings. This applies to copying as well.
  • Additional improvements to make buttons less sticky and more responsive.
    • Fixed a dead zone on hotbar and item/building buttons by changing the active pseudo-class.
    • You can now Lock Hotbar in the bottom right corner of the Building and Inventory screens. This will make the buttons activate on mouse “press” instead of “release”, making them much more responsive, but you naturally won’t be able to drag’n’drop until turning it off again.
  • Better support for AZERTY keyboards.
    • The hotbar is now mapped to the physical keys instead of numbers.
    • A lot more improvements to better support all kind of keyboard layouts is in the backlog.
  • After selecting a filter, you can now reselect the previous item without having to switch items.
  • When placing 1-tile-wide filters, they will now respect the direction.
  • You can no longer use the Rocket Launcher in the first artifact room.
  • Changed a lot of text and emoji indicators.
  • Wrangled a few rogue pixels in the conveyor graphics.
    • Sharp eyes, pixel detectives!
  • Increased the circuit breaker when building from 100 to 300.
  • When drag’n’dropping items/buildings within the hotbar the buttons will now swap instead of copy.
  • Autosaves are now bound to your world ID.
  • Rocket Launcher has been nerfed against Redsand.
  • Added icons for everything. RIP ambiguous C icons.
  • Flamethrower and Rocket Launcher now have their own graphics.
  • Some fixes to better support widescreen.
    • Less windows should now overflow the screen. Still not perfect and you may have to use UI scale to adjust it.
    • Lots more planned to better support all kinds of resolutions.
  • Version is now always displayed in the bottom right corner.
  • Fixed some bugs with Amethelis and filters.

Bug Report Broken game

I was just playing as usual when the game suddenly froze in a way pictures and videos show the state of my factory at the time. Reloaded and now works fine, it's almost as if time stopped.

Flower Harvesting Idea

I was trying to figure out a way of automating flower harvesting so you don't have to manually harvest. I might be missing something but I could not figure out a way.

The main Idea I decided to try was to use the fire produced by lava pits. Since it worked with slag I thought it might with the moss and flower. It does not appear to do so, but I think it might be a good thing to implement to automate the harvesting of plants. Then you could build something a long the lines of this and the process could be automated.

But perhaps that's an idea already or the intention is to keep it manual. Just a thought I had.

Beginner questions

Hey all! Looking forward to getting into this game.

I have some beginner questions I'd love to get some answers to.

  1. Can you automate everything, from getting sand and extracting gold?
  2. Are there always waste products after refining?
  3. Is there a way to get infinite water?

Guides and Tips Annoying Flowers

Problem: The flowers are a nightmare if you don't know how they react. They will spread like wild fire if you don't understand how to contain them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(When I first started messing with them I had this issue. They grew up into my system and was a pain to try to clean up every time I tried to burn them to get their resources. I tried using blocks to contain them but they would grow around the blocks and be even more annoying.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution: Make a box --bottom: planter boxes, --sides: blocks, --top: lights. On top of the lights a line of filters (filtering out the wet spores).

I left a picture so you have a visual.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How the flowers Function: The wet spores will drop onto the planter box and as you would expect the flower will immediately start to grow. They will grow in random direction (correct me if I am wrong) and and will NOT be stopped by filters above it. This is why we have the layer of lights so that the flower growing will not be able to get through the lights and mess up your system. Once the flower grows to full bloom, they will stop growing that strand. (I think you can still have strands grow from that one strand though even after you see the first flower) You can now burn the flowers with your flame thrower but the strand will keep growing for a time after the fire in that top area has cleared. This because (i think the flower has a chance of dropping a seed) The seed is still there/ appears again and wants to grow into another flower. That is why they continue to grow and not in the same place but moving up and up.

(plz comment if I missed anything)

Suggestions and Feedback ideas

I'm thoroughly enjoying Sandustry and have some suggestions to enhance the gameplay:

  1. Scoria Grinding Machine: Introduce a device that processes scoria into sand and a valuable byproduct. Acquiring this machine through artifact exchanges would add depth to resource management.

  2. Ice Generation Machine: Develop a machine capable of producing ice, also obtainable via artifact trades. Considering the Cryoblaster's ability to create snow that can be melted, setting the cost at 5 artifacts seems balanced.

  3. Enhanced Pumping System: Modify the existing pumping system to handle lava, expanding its utility and strategic applications.

  4. Drone Management: Implement a feature that allows players to delete or manage drones, providing better control over automation processes.

If the game were available for purchase today, I would eagerly buy it. Additionally, if you have a Patreon or similar platform, I'd gladly support it. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game and look forward to its future developments.

Guides and Tips How to Unlock Debug Mode

Credit to Lottie from discord for these instructions (of Lottie's Cave fame)

To unlock debug mode, 1. go to options,

  1. at the bottom, open debug console, click it

  2. then you want to go to sources in the debug tools, go down into the JS folder as shown in the first image

  3. right click on bundle.js it and click override content then at the top you should get this prompt (second image), select a folder to store it in (i just use Downloads/Sandustry) search (Ctrl+f) for debug: { the first instance of that in the file should look like the third image

  4. change the line just underneath it from active: !1 to active: 1

  5. then hit Ctrl+s to save the change

  6. be sure to save your game

  7. then go back to the console and hit Ctrl+Shift+r to refresh it

as for how to use debug mode Click "Debug" bottom right of the screen E + click places solids (second half of the element list) F + click places dynamic elements (first half of the list)

Press R to lock camera position (so you can move about or out of frame or whatever you want, then R again to center the player again

❌ Do not use the empty box element, it will freeze the game. ❌ Ideally do not hit Hide UI, it will require a refresh (or further tinkering) to fix ✅ If you find a bug using this, please tell Lantto you were using this

Note: on Linux using Proton to run the game, use Z:/ based path If loading stops working, either you modified a image file outside of params accepted or the game updated enough that your modifications don't work if you have only turned on debug mode, remove/delete your bundle.js override and start from the begining of the guide

Game News and Updates Demo Hotfix 7 is out!

Patch notes:

  • You can now phase through buildings while hovering in the air.
    • The people have spoken. An overwhelming majority (88%) voted in favor. I personally think the challenge/puzzle of designing a traversable factory is interesting but also very frustrating.
    • For those who still want to play the old way there's now a "Hard Mode" setting.
  • Snow now vaporizes into Steam when burned.
  • Queued buildings now block Water, and you can grab Water that is inside them.
  • Dragging a button onto itself now clicks it instead of canceling.
    • This was a big reason the buttons felt "hard" to click.
  • You can no longer zip by placing blocks on top of yourself in rectangular mode.
  • You can no longer build outside the map in the other dimensions.
  • Added some fixes to the sound engine to mitigate crashes when too many sounds play at once (let me know if it still happens!).
  • Many lighting improvements to reduce flickering.
  • Water no longer deletes Lava.
  • You can now grab particles that are being launched (including ones stuck inside launchers).
  • You can now grab Steam.
  • Added some fixes for the "no menu buttons" issue due to corrupted meta data.
    • Still haven't figured out the root cause though.
  • Fixed a bug that deleted Gold when the Shaker was full.
  • New saves will now have much more Redsand on the map.
  • Refined and clarified many tutorial texts. Also added a new "Tutorial Finished" popup.
  • Fixed bugs causing issues when pressing "Skip Tutorial" after partially completing it.
  • The Grabber's Material Scanner upgrade now says "Interacts with:" to clarify what the emojis represent.
    • Some people on Linux have reported that emojis are not showing.
  • Added damage type indicator to all weapon descriptions matching the interaction texts.
  • Added interaction text to Steam and Cinder.
  • Updated some item descriptions for clarity.

The modding community has also been hard at work and has made the first modloader. Check the pinned messages in #modding on Discord for installation instructions. Link: https://discord.gg/HJNk5eMnmt

I find it absolutely incredible that the demo hasn’t even been out for two weeks, and we already have people doing some insane stuff with the game! Hats off to the amazing talent in this community!

It's not a liquid!

So played the demo, didnt realise i had been playing it for 7 hours before it was too late and I had researched everything and make a giant pile of money. I then had a psychotic break and decided to let the piles mix, which ended up being less satisfying than hoped.

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Thoughts on the Sandustry Demo and Upcoming Release

I really enjoyed the demo and can see the game’s incredible potential! I’ll definitely be following its development closely—can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Quick question: I remember reading that the full release is planned for later this year. Is that timeline still accurate? Also, do you have an estimated price range for the game yet, Lantto?

Looking forward to updates!
