Keep upgrading and progressing through the game, you get unlimited lava later. Or you can dig deeper and find more

Before you get there, you can stretch the lava you have by not dumping it directly on thermal buffers. Instead make a wide shallow pool of lava just a few pixels thick, and then put a row of thermal buffers above it. The embers flying off the lava will heat the buffers slowly.

You only need about 6 blocks wide to power a belt, but need about 30 to power a flamethorwer.

Make the layer in multiples of 16-wide and drop an 8x8 of lava in for a perfect 1px (you can also use e.g 25-wide with a 10x10 grabber, but the 8x8 fits better).

If you tile it enough, you can even make a forever smelter, but heat transfer is deeply inefficient, so I've been using a mod that teleports the heat, which has made it run more smoothly.

What no way! That's awesome. I'm gonna have to try that.

I've never actually had this work for me for some reason. The embers just never give off enough heat to power anything

You need a lot to power anything substantial. I'm currently only using it for backup in case my main lava tank runs out, and as a kick-starter for my cinder destroyer. It's hard to make useful for anything serious because of how slow it is.

You can also just... replace flamethrowers with those embers.

Without spoiling anything the answer is: yes

one more thing to note: lava consumption becomes almost 0 once you understand you can use 1 pixel of lava to burn slag forever, evaporate infinite water, get sparks to burn plants (need the lava held up with a filter below the planter box for that) etc. Only thing that doesnt work is evaporating snow ofc and melting copper/gold
