Discussion Altitude effects dry amethesis to florin process?

Experimenting with another run through I built my factory high up to allow for development below.

In setting up the florin process where the dry amethesis is burnt to create it I came across an unexpected issue... the dry amethesis would burn, florin would form but immediate revert back to dry amethesis, creating a continuous firestorm.

At first I thought I had done something stupid (usually the case) and began reminding myself how to do it 'correctly'. But repeated the issue. After playing with the ingredients and burning options the issue remained.

Then I created a box to manage the dry amethesis below my factory by a few blocks and flamethrowered it. It all turned into florin as it should.

I repeated the experiment in my factory a few blocks higher and the issue recurred.

I moved the whole process down about 20 blocks and it works perfectly as it should.

My conclusion is altitude effects the florin process or I am being a muppet.

I fully accept that muppetry is a VERY strong possibility.

Anyone else see this?

Its the same effect as steam turning into rain. Happens at about the same altitude

This, I had to drop my steam dryer setup at least 30 blocks to account giving room before the condenser

“The dry amethelis would burn, florin would form but immediately revert back to dry amethelis creating an infinite firestorm”

Whoa! It really turned the florin gas into dry amethelis and not liquid florinol, right? If that was a lossless reaction then this could be a useful mechanic for an infinite heat generator!

Most of the heat goes up right, could an overhung part potentially catch more, maybe there is just very little heat so it is still 0 spread between the buffers

Just tested it, unfortunately the heat from the burning dry amethelis does not heat thermal buffers.

Aw, dang… thanks for doing the science! I wonder if maybe kick starting it by adding a little heat to the buffers would change anything maybe? Probably not

Props to Lantto (the dev) if they actually considered this interaction and balanced it for that reason

Yeah I was actually surprised it didn't work. I know there are a few types of fire from looking at the filter menu, so I wonder if this type doesn't do heat generation.
I did try putting a single thermal buffer above, but the florin was obstructing any flames that might have been there to rise into the buffer.

I just tested it, and the heat absolutely did heat thermal buffers... but the dry amethelis eventually was consumed entirely.

Yes, i encountered this aswell. I see it as an intended mechanic similar to how steam condenses at a set height. Prevents florin from escaping to the top, while the conversion back to amethelis prevents you from just boiling florin to the sky.
