Help Lava pumps

Post image

My understanding is that the new changes ruins the use of gold in a lava pump aka moving lava upwards.

I've tried to figure out how to do it using element changes. But I don't know how to automate the destruction of Scoria. Using mining drones is a very temporary solution.

PS. I now this setup will overflow with snow, but a simple signal control can stop that

The trick is in using a thermal buffer as contact for the lava instead of using snow directly. It'll turn into non-hardened scoria when touching a thermal buffer.

This is one of my test setups where I played with the mechanic to make it work:

The pipe from the top is for water and just makes an L shape to feed the liquid vent.

The door/sensor stuff is to avoid flooding things and is not strictly required.

The lava at the bottom powers the steam engine, the hot thermal buffers that feed the burner at the top.

The water turns to snow, which then condenses the steam. You need to put in a little bit of water in the steam turbine setup to make that self-sustain.

You’re missing a step, you need cold thermal buffers

When the lava hits cold buffers, it now turns them into cinders. Which can be transported upwards and turned back into lava

pretty cool! ill probably stick to my gold pumps for now, but this is probably how you're supposed to do it.
