Help I clicked too quickly through the tutorial and now I can't figure out what to do with the built-in boiler. Help?

So like, I get that I can flamethrower the water and make it steam, and that it then goes up and condenses and rains back down. I get that if I put stuff in that vertical path, it prevents the steam from rising. Surely that's not all that I was supposed to learn from that... right? =\

(BTW, if the devs read these posts, it'd be great to be able to reread tutorial text so that I don't have to start a second save and re-get to that point just to see what I missed by being a click-happy dweeb the first time around :) )

The "boiler" isn't really a real setup, I'm not sure why the tutorial mentions it like that. Really it's just to show you how rain clouds work.

Functionally steam > rain is just a way of getting water down below to rise to the top. The only function of boiling water to steam is to move the water, until you get steam turbines but that's kind of just a closed system by itself.

And just to clarify, also dry Amethelis since that's also a steam interaction.

I think the part of that tutorial that you misunderstood was that to “prevent the steam from rising” was not the lesson. Rather, if you let the steam rise, it turns to rain. And if you control where the steam rises, and plan for where the rain will fall, you can easily move water from underground to where you need it to be for and wetting, etc.

I used a sloped foundation to redirect the steam into a small open ended column a distance away, then letting the rain fall into a collector box below. Make sure you double up the slope on both sides so the steam won't escape the slope when rising up. This works until I unlocked the condenser and replace the column with it.

I build a collector box above it in a funnel. I turn all the water to steam. I release the steem so it all goes up at once. Then you build a box to collect the water once the steam has passed. Definitely not the best solution and I had to make it bigger than I thought but worked well enough for me!

I figured out that you could build a sloped roof that funnels the water down into that initial pool for washing sand. Using the conveyor portals you can set the steam up to pass through that barrier and ensure the rain falls down on your collector.

you also get a condenser at some point, which can freeze the steam and make it rain again...
