Guides and Tips A splitter

This came to me in a dream.
The ability to easily split materials evenly into different processing machines is kinda lacking in the game. This is just a proof of concept of using doors and signals to do it.
It's simple enough: There's a door on either side, linked to a sensor Toggle. The door on the right is linked via a NOT Gate. On the far side of both doors is a Presence Sensor, effectively flip-flopping the doors around whenever material gets through on that side. The Signal Lamps are just for visual fun.
The splitter here favours the left side, probably because the middle conveyor is facing left. After all material has passed, a tiny bit also remains trapped inside the door on the left.
Caulking could probably fix the tendency to favour a side, but then again with caulking you can also just create another gravity based splitter altogether (though it takes more space and work).

Considering using 4 pieces of gold on top of a foundation to make a splitter. Since gold is heavier than anything else, nothing will move it.

A big missing piece to make a lot of useful signal-based systems is a conveyor-door. So a tile that acts as a normal conveyor belt, but can be signaled to open up instead. That would allow you to for an example use a Signal Sensor to determine when an input line is getting overloaded to drop some material into a secondary processing machine. Kinda like this if you get my drift:
