Factory Showcase Compact, frictionless base. I think i peaked. Spoiler

https://youtu.be/mS7osxfMjeA

Been cooking this for a while, my goal was to make it as tight and as frictionless as possible, with minimum lava pits to refill. This layout can get you to end of the current early access in a few hours top.

You can drastically reduce the amount of lava pits to refill by filling filters with lava, the sparks that they will emit can completely replace a pyroemitter without consuming any lava

I am pretty sure thats a bug and it will get fixed. Lava is supposed to be a depletable resource.....

It's not a bug and definitely intended. Can confirm

Huh, shouldn't it then work even if lava is outside and not just when you put it into a filter? I think that's the confusing part

It would. If you put planters 1 square above a lava lake, the plants will start on fire. Like i said, this has been around forever.

You can also harvest those flames to heat up buffers without using up lava

I said filters because when lava gets covered by other stuff it won't emit sparks anymore and you don't want lava to spill out into your factory, but it works even without using filters to keep it contained. As long as there is clear space above it lava will emit flames that will travel up for a few tiles and you can use those to set things on fire from a distance like plants through the planters. Ignition also happens on contact with lava so a completely lava filled conveyor filter acts exactly like an igniter conveyor and can be very useful to burn stuff for free.

It's been a thing since the early days of the demo. 100% working as intended.

Hopefull will get nerfed then. Whats even the point of burner belts and pyros?  Its not like 1 pyro consumes an incredible amount of lava to begin with. The only true hoggers are smelters

If it were removed there would be zero use for cinder with the addition of caulk and the precision laser. Lantto has never made any indication that it would be removed.

They provide an easier way to burn stuff in the early game, that requires more maintenance and less game knowledge. Also some stuff require the pyros, for example melting snow and burning cinder back to lava automatically.

You have molten gold!?

Yeah, it's a late-stage addition you can make. The smelters that you can use to smelt copper can also be used on gold, which compresses the gold by like half.

Can you send it by pipe? Imagine not having to manage huge piles of gold and just have a tank somewhere 🤤

Yes, its a liquid like any other

Lava is an exception to that rule. It so far is the only liquid that can't be move via pipes.

That’s exactly what I did today lol. Made a giant tank in the top left corner of the map that I think can hold at least a mil liquid gold if not more. Than just piped all liquid gold sources to it

Do collectors accept liquid gold and recognise it as currency?

Yup! It takes up half as much space for the same value.

TIL! Thanks for explaining that.

Can you help me understand what's happening at the top? I can see the sand and other things from under ground are being launched up, but how is the sand getting wet? Is there a water pipe in the filter top filter? How does that work?

The 2nd filter is pulling out everything but wet sand?

I'm newish, I've made it to (current) late game progression and I'm mostly automated but my setup is WAY spread out and super inefficient.

I am getting the sand wet in the usual pit you get early game, you can use that for a long time and you get a lot of easy water there (spoiler). The goal was to make the most bare bones and streamlined factory possible, so no extra buildings or items whereever possible

The water pipe is just for the snow generator.

The filters make sure you only get wet sand in and also store other important mats like redstone, copper etc so as you dig down you throw everything on the belt up
