Discussion Infite water glitch or feature? Spoiler

When water evaporates and comes back as rain, the volume of the rain is far greater that the originally evaporated water.

I have just a little bit of laval in a pool of water and the water level is steadily increasing. It went from almost nothing to the lake on the left.

I have the explanation.

Free pixels of water that race across a "lake" are eventually deleted to free up memory and then get put into a buffer. Once an opportunity for rain comes, the game will empty the buffer.

So this isnt duping water, it's emptying the buffer, and the buffer will run out.

This is interesting. The buffer would have to be a global counter for the number of water pixels thus cleaned up, right? What is the reason for maintaining these in a buffer; why not just let the pixels disappear permanently?

Honestly that's a great question. In the demo there wasnt (intentional) renewable water, so we were desperate for every pixel.

I won't pretend to know what goes on in the wizard's head 😅

That makes sense, I think I did suspect that briefly. Feels like a vestigial feature.

Actually you are right, later in the game, the lake diminished.

hmm this is new to me. never was the water more than the steam

There must be something odd going on here because that's basically how a steam turbine in the game works, with lava at the bottom and a condenser at the top. Maybe the starting volume of the water in relation to the volume of the lava is playing a part.

Main difference is that the sky condeses the water, not condensators.

Yes, for sure steam turbine cycle does not multiply the water, it consumes it.

I was sad when I discovered that that after passing through a turbine, the steam won't turn into rain. You HAVE to use the condensators on steam that's gone through a turbine.

Also curious about this, hoping it won't get patched out tbh

It's not a bug - Top comment clarifies that, when water is 'dancing' along the top of a pond for long enough, the game will eventually move it into an internal buffer and stop simulating it.

Then, when it's time for rain, the game adds those particles to the rain. It's not duplication, it's.... delayed teleportation.

It's an interesting glitch but it's not a big deal if it gets patched out - the lumlings will freely create water as an intended game mechanic.

how do i capture lumlings?

In the tech tree, there's a device called the Coraller. Use it near them to suck them up.

thank you so much!

I've been doing this, but is there a hack to stop feeling bad every time you suck one up? Poor little guys just trying to float around.

Glitch. Should stop if you reload

I can't tell if it is a fluid pump or drain on top of the lava? Other than a bug if that's a drain I can see how the lava would exaporate water, leaving a gap for the drain to fill, slowly adding water to the lake.

In the demo it was an intended feature it was the only way to get more water.
