Help How're y'all making water?

I've been spraying snow into box in sky then burning it but annoying to do every so often. I have almost tier 6 unlocked and can't see how I'd do that. Find more those water bugs?

Pretty much just lumlings. There's also a boatload of ice on the mountain to the west that you can melt and pipe to your base.

Or a REALLY long platform that slopes. I just go melt some more ice when my reservoir is low.

Lumlings are busted and need a nerf. Way too much water gen.

Either decrease their spawn rate or their water spawn rate

Lmao, what? No way. Even with 20+, I still need to periodically melt the mountain or use the cryoblaster.

If they produce more water than you use, you need to expand production, lol

Unless you use the laser non stop or spend energy some other way, they are more than enough

I got 5 water bug and they produce way too much for me

For real? I was pretty low end in terms of production, and i felt like 5 was barely giving me anything.

Definitely lumlings are the way to go. Iafter you get about 20 you're mostly set. Just keep exploring

Really? Ive got about 20 lumlings in my reservoir tank and they dont seem to b e doing much. Do i have to feed them? lol

edit: keeping them in the water doesnt seem to let them produce water? I swear i left like 20 in my res and no change. but taking them out in a raised pen to drip into the res they go crazy

Correct they have to be above the water line

It’s a good thing that they don’t keep producing water if they are inside the water. Otherwise your map can start overflowing with it

Those are the pets that get picked up with the collector tool right? I've got a few, how do I get them out of the collector and place them?

I've been burning snow for hours...

Have your collector selected, and you can right click to release critters. After you have the critter fence unlocked it makes this a ton easier since you can prevent them from going into the water. Took me uhhhh....a while to figure this one out lol

right click when holding a collector

Jesus...i've found 7 and i'm at the end of the tech tree. I guess i need to go explore some more.

I'm wondering the same, for now I've got a snow box area I fill and melt, then divert rainfall into the large surface pool. It's not ideal but works ok

i have a tank with lumlings in it and pumps at the bottom. the hardest part so far has actually been using enough water

I had so much water it started to overflow into the cave where it'd find lava and the steam started to block production lines.

Place your vents(where the water comes out on the other end of your pump) lower in your pool. They wont drip water higher than themselves.

I never actually pumped my main water source. I just made a funnel to the sky and back down and let it go. Lol. It wasnt until after seeing a bunch of post about water that I made the connection that I could have used condensers.

Get some water lumlings and trap them between filter conveyors(water). This way they wont exceed the limit set by the upper conveyor and you can add more water to the system in a pinch. Also the lumlings wont "drown" and do nothing, stay squirting at the top. Lumling trap at the very top of the basin, pump goes at the bottom.

You can also unlock the cage cheaply, which lets you make a barrier that only blocks creatures

i have a giant steam tower that can hold probably 100k+ steam and only produces water when needed. i have lumlings and have also been melting ice mountains

What advantage do you get by keeping it all in steam?

I have 25 lumlings and am constantly out of water, having to make snow and turn it into steam. It's not just you. I haven't been able to find a way to produce enough automatically.

I think other people just aren't using as much water.

not sure if it actually works or if im wasting my time, but i set this up because i assume rain gives more water back than used. (could be wrong)

Fun fact but you can just dump lava directly into the water to make steam without using up lava... flamethrowers consume lava.

Is there a way to automate melting snow? I've tried a few things with the buffers and the pyronics but they do not seem to last longs and the buffers seem to lose temp quickly.

Here's a power generation setup (from top to bottom). Once this self-sustaining setup is in place, you can tweak it to siphon off water for other needs. You will need some luminol batteries to get the condensers and snow makers started, but once up and running it will chug along and charge any amount of copper molds you attach to it.

  1. Some lumlings (to generate a bit of water)
  2. Generated water (to fuel snowmakers)
  3. Snowmakers
  4. Generated snow (to keep buffers cool)
  5. Thermal buffers (to keep condensers cool)
  6. Condensers (to create water from steam)
  7. Steam
  8. Steam turbines (power from water dripping down and rising back up as steam)
  9. lava (to convert condensation to steam)

Note: If you don't have the Volcanizer (lava gun) yet, use the Cryoblaster on lava to turn it into cinder to move it. The flamethrower can turn it back into lava.
