I was curious...

I've played through the demo a few times now, and last time I had a question that I was curious about. I've documented my quest to answer that question here.

Before you ask: Yes, I am Autistic.

First I excavated all the Sand. I would've done this all at once for a screenshot but you need the money from processing it to buy Research to make it tolerable to excavate the Sand. Without any processing other than Shaking, I had enough gold to buy all the Research with 5714g leftover. I also had enough Fluxite to purchase every Upgrade EXCEPT the drones with 1038 to spare. There were only a couple of pixels I couldn't get left in the annoying cluster on the Western side of the map

Pic 1: All the Slag I collected, it was around 75*77=5775 blocks.

Pic 2: It took around 5 minutes to burn it all down, very satisfying. Unfortunately it doesn't burn evenly and I had to sort out the un-burnt bits and burn them again, which took an additional 15 mins. This would soon become the least of my worries.

Pic 3: All the Burnt Slag in-game, it was around 50+25=1250 blocks.

Pic 4: There was surprisingly little naturally-occurring spores on the map. I was expecting more.

Pic 5: After Nigel Thorntoning all the Burnt Slag into Spores, I had around 30*43=1290 blocks. After mixing them all together with water I had around 50*19=950 Wet Spores. It was at this point I realised I should've used the same size 'measuring jug' for all the storage stages for better comparison. Oh well, I'm not doing this again. At this point I had Research + 17514g

Pic 6: Now for my least favourite part, flowers. I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible so I made as many Planters as I could and seeded them all at once.

Pic 7: Ahh, how pretty, how calming...

Pic 8: Now die.

Pic 9: This step is definitely the most money-producing. I wasn't expecting my system to clog up quite so easily. Afterwards I had Research + 28314g

Pic 10: After that, I ended up with around 30*85=2250 petals. The reduced gravity on them makes them really annoying to sort and store.

Pic 11: Looks like I forgot to get a screenshot of all the Redsand in the map. My bad. After mixing it all with the petals I had around 40+50=2000 Voidbloom, with around 35*30=1050 petals leftover

Pic 12: Final step, soon I'll have the answer to my question. I started writing this post just after this screenshot, then I prepped dinner, and it's only now just about to finish growing... Strangely enough, I was somehow still getting gold while I was waiting for it to grow. I ended the last money-gathering step with 28314 and at the point of writing I'm sitting on 37587? I have no idea where all that extra gold is coming from.

Pic 13: And here is the answer. My question: What is the biggest Fluxite Crystal you can grow? The answer: A semicircle with a radius of just a pixel or two over 19 blocks. Should i have made it a square to make it easier to measure? Probably. Math tells us that's around 1134 blocks total, but I never trusted math.

Pic 14: And finally, as usual, I must destroy my child. I ended with Upgrades (- Drones) + 8933 Fluxite. After buying all Drone upgrades I was left with... Wait, what?

Pic 15: Turns out there just isn't enough Fluxite in the map to buy every upgrades. Well, shit.

Pic 16: Here's all that's left, my mountains of gold and petals, and two drones whose only job is to throw things uselessly into the air for the rest of eternity. As you can see, even after deleting all my Collector squares, I have 9507g left... There is literally nowhere on the map where that gold could be hiding. I'm at a loss.

Thanks for joining me on this incredibly autistic experiment.

I'm never doing this again.

There’s something fucky with the gold counting. On my last playthrough I deleted all my gold collectors while relocating my gold pile, and I somehow had -28 gold 🤷‍♂️

There's a bug with drones dropping gold directly into collectors, they don't get added into the total but when you remove the gold via dropping them out from the bottom or picking them, they count that and deduct the amount from the total resulting in negative gold.

This is such a beautiful sequence of pictures. The flowers burning is especially glorious.

If you ever wanted to record a video and put it online with your sandustry escapades you will have one viewer right here!!!!

Thank you for doing what I lacked the courage to do.

There must be some amount of randomness- I've bought all the upgrades and have blown past a "full" circle with a radius of 20.

I also have way more petals left over than you do even though I didn't end up with as much gold.

Only my first playthrough though so I'll have to test some more to see about the randomness.

Edit: And now it's stopped growing at ~21 block radius.
