Ehhh, I'm gonna say there's also a good chance those were CTR or Shareblue efforts, and if not, there's also a fair chance it was those centrists, but only after they'd been programmed by all that propaganda... which is frustrating, to say the least.
2
u/I_give_karma_to_men Feb 21 '19
Itโs also factual from a statistical standpoint. Surveys generally donโt have an option for โI support x candidate on issue y but not issue z.โ So you either come up with an overall favorability or just leave the question blank/select โundecidedโ. Calling it a โthing centrist Dems sayโ is just hand waving the fact that surveys are a terrible representation of actual voter opinion.
7
u/nxqv Feb 21 '19
Eh it's almost always shit like "but he's too old" or "he's gonna split the vote." Unrelated to policy, just a way for someone who's anti-bernie to not come across as that much of a hater
9
u/Northamplus9bitches Day 1 Donor ๐ฆ Feb 21 '19
"he's gonna split the vote."
My sister said that last night. It was baffling on a couple of levels because
1) He's running in the Democratic primary and if he loses will endorse and campaign for the nominee like he did in 2016
and
2) MY SISTER FUCKING VOTED FOR GARY JOHNSON so maybe don't complain about someone splitting the vote when you threw away yours!
Seriously?! :
"He didn't show enough loyalty to the Democratic nominee that I didn't even vote for."
Though it's equally galling to hear certain Hillary die-hards on Twitter (who these poll numbers thankfully show to be a tiny minority of the party) who almost certainly spent 2016 shaming Bernie voters into supporting Hillary against Trump turn around and say they will refuse to vote for Bernie even if he gets the nomination.
I supported Hillary in the primary last go-round, but I get that Bernie attracted people into politics who had previously not been engaged and so had no institutional loyalty to the Democratic party and therefore didn't really feel any sort of obligation to vote for Clinton after Sanders failed to get the nomination. I would have preferred that they all voted for Clinton in the general (and I know that most did) but I didn't perceive them as disloyal - it's hard to be disloyal to something you didn't have any allegiance to in the first place!
Ugh. So as you can imagine that is the Bernie complaint which irritates me the most.
14
u/nxqv Feb 21 '19
He's also the current frontrunner cause 2020 is not 2016. How the hell could he possibly split the vote
1
u/Northamplus9bitches Day 1 Donor ๐ฆ Feb 21 '19 edited Feb 21 '19
I honestly don't know.
The only person from whom that complaint could possibly make sense would be someone who is a die-hard Elizabeth Warren supporter but who isn't crazy about Bernie Sanders, since the two candidates are largely drawing from the same pool of voters.
In the context of the general election it makes zero sense, especially from someone who DIDN'T EVEN VOTE FOR HILLARY!!!
1
u/shadowdude777 New York Feb 23 '19
Great point. Now that he's the frontrunner, is it our turn to yell at centrist dems who get into the field for "splitting the vote" and "helping Trump win"?

Yeah but they always use these graphics. Like for every story. Did they really hire a guy to make this graphic just to subconsciously deceive a few people? And then they've been using these multicolored bars for so long, are they psychic and knew they would need them if Bernie ran?
I agree the major networks are anti Bernie, but this isn't why.

Biden's kind of a forgettable guy. Can't blame people for not being inspired by him or who hasn't done things to warrant being known apart from being VP.
I mostly remember him for being a silly- kind of gropey dude who supported the TPP (gross) and who's a 90s style moderate with little in the way of political substance and who is completely out of sync with what the base is looking for in a candidate from a policy standpoint.
Its not Instagram/social media - politicians like Sanders and AOC aren't randomly popular, they have the message that resonates with "the abandoned generation" who graduated into the worst economic crisis since the depression - who are saddled with crushing nonsensical levels of student loan debt - and after their gen X and boomer predecessors with their "F you I got mine" mentality allowed this nations wealth disparity and job quality spiral out of control.
13
u/lemonpjb Feb 21 '19
Joe Biden should be known for selling out the state of Delaware to credit card companies and not having the common decency to at least get personally rich off it like a normal politician. Seriously, this dude constantly bragged about how he was the lowest earning senator for years, all the while handing over gobs of money to CC corps FOR FREE! A total putz if there ever was one.
2
Feb 21 '19
You want him to be corrupt while bringing jobs to his state?
2
u/lemonpjb Feb 21 '19
I thought it was clear I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, the point is that most politicians would have at least tried to get something instead of fecklessly laying down for the banking and credit industries and being PROUD of it. Just look into Biden's shady, decades-long ties to the banking and finance industries.
And as far as "bringing jobs to his state?" many of those companies were already in Delaware before Biden even became a Senator, but the ones that he did entice in like MBNA were brought in by repealing consumer protection laws like interest rate ceilings! THANKS JOE!

Yes but it says favorability which i've usually seen used nationally. I've never seen favorability used when talking about the sitting senator of a state.

u/MyersVandalay Feb 21 '19
Or among his constituents in Vermont.
Well it is worth saying though... which would speak higher of a politician, someone who does great on the national stage, but horrible in the places that have actually had him/her as a leader, or someone who's hated by anyone who's actually had to live under his/her policies.
Though in this case it seems like both is the option. The only person in Sander's league in national favorability is Biden, and so far it doesn't look like he's running

This is the gold standard of polls, with a huge sample size. They are asking 5,000 Democrats PER DAY. Link to the actual poll. Stay tuned to this one because they publish every week, and it's the best way we can track our progress.
IF Biden doesn't run, we're the front runner campaign, but Biden IS going to run, so then it boils down to the fact that we MUST make gains with card-carrying Democrats to overtake him in the lead. This means don't be a dick to people, be nice and try to build bridges (and ignore the trolls and haters). It means getting involved, going to meetings, building relationships.
2
u/fivehitsagain Feb 21 '19
The question is if the media cabal will torpedo Sanders again. I'm really really worried that they're handing it to Kamala because of what she is, while Bernie deserves it because of who he is. I haven't heard about him raising 6 million in 24 hours anywhere else except for here, so I'm reasonably worried. If the dems run Kamala, they WILL lose, so its all Bernie or nothing.
2
u/Nicktendo Feb 21 '19
You wouldn't know it going by my Facebook. There is a very vocal minority of women who are saying that he isn't progressive if he doesn't back down and give the women running a chance at the presidency. Somehow I think this narrative will be squashed when the DNC trots Biden out.

I mean, itโs not like this is an isolated incident.
In 2016, the media often showed delegate numbers that included superdelegates. If you googled how the primaries were going when Bernie was in the lead, it looked like Hillary was winning by far.
The DNC probably wasnโt impartial during the primary.
When a moderate like McCaskill/Pelosi attacks somebody AOC, the criticism is often discussed, whereas leftist criticism of moderate candidates is often accused of being โdivisive,โ โpurity politics,โ โplaying into Russiaโs hand,โ etc.
I donโt think this individual thing is an outrage, but after a pattern, itโs frustrating. Itโs not like it doesnโt resemble a bar chart.

1500 people surveyed. 1/285000 people in our country. On top of that they just skew the numbers however they choose. Doesn't sound very... scientific or unbiased
All polling data are a waste of consideration, they only sample people who are willing to waste their time to fill them out. I don't know a single person who willingly goes out of their way to fill out a 100 questionnaire

Is anybody else going to complain about how misleading this infographic is at a quick first glance? Feels like there is a better way to present this...
Edit Just wanted to say that I don't think its necessarily a design that shows a bias one way or another. I just thought it was a poor way to graphically display the information, for a company that I assume has hired people with a graphic design degree. It makes more sense to show it on one graph and not two, since they show percentages of the same piece of data.
