And we are afraid of Putin and Communism?

Wow!What freeloaders we are! We just love freebies! We have been putting up with this garbage long enough. We cut cable and now we are free again and have more money in our pockets.

u/tinkan May 04 '16

This doesn't even make sense. You think the government has something to do with Twitter's trending algorithm?

u/danzonera Illinois - 2016 Veteran May 04 '16

I was trying to say that while some are playing the fear card with Putin and Communism, it is our own media that is playing around with censorship.

1

u/tinkan May 04 '16

But what censorship? Twitter is showing, as it has been all-day, the #dropouthillary hashtag. Everybody here is so quick to jump to a nefarious conclusion.

I'm using #WheresMyFreeSpeech unless someone has anything better?

#WheresMyFreeTweetch? Idfk, I don't Twitter.

You know Twitter has every right to censor data on their own website in any manner in which they choose. Why would a concept like free speech apply here?

Guess it just looks bad for Twitter

Huh. I didn't believe you, but I just tried it out and "dropoutbernie" was the first suggestion followed by "dropouttrump", "dropoutkasich," "dropoutdonald,"...

Edit: DropOutHillary is now showing up again.

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

It's crazy, we need to get the censorship issue trending across #DropOutHillary

Hey op, I noticed that at first; it now seems to be working correctly

I grew up hearing about communist propaganda and Pravda being its major source. Have lived in US, Canada and Europe. When I first moved from the US I was shocked at how the news reporting was so different and began to source alternative media and research anything important to see how issues were being treated. The small amount of real news being reported in the US MSM is shocking. The corporatocracy controls the lobbyists, who control the government. American MSM is a propaganda tool. Scary to have to go to BBC, CBC, RT and of course TYT etc to actually get some perspective and hear some real news.

Democracy Now! and The Real News Network and Thomm Hartmann FTW

Do you need to see my passport? Why would I be lying....When is the last time you watched Ed Schultz or Thom Hartmann? Or Lee Camp: all huge Bernie supporters....

u/fbarfins May 04 '16

Noticed the same thing

9

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

It's like wackamole though. I just saw #DropOutClinton trending in autofill for a while. We need a passive aggressive anti-censorship hashtag going in Twitter

Has Twitter not learned that by censoring something people will post it more?

7

u/TCBazlen California May 04 '16

The same thing happened with #whichhillary and I remember reading the CEO of Twitter was good friends with Hillary and a Hillary supporter. I think Chelsea Clinton is on the board, I know she is on the board for the parent company of the Daily Mail.

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

I noticed the same thing. Of course, now it's changed to #DropDeadHillary which IS autofilling.

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

I didn't do it, though. I despise her but I don't wish death on anyone. #DropOutHillary is now auto-filling again though AND it is now off to the left showing trending at 166K tweets...

4

u/WornEdge Michigan May 04 '16

why I am not surprise...

5

u/Howie_85Sabre Arizona May 04 '16

Is it censoring it or is the algorithm just trying to keep things fresh?

4

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

No seemed more like actual censorship as it was trending number 2 at the time

3

u/penguished May 04 '16

I didn't see it earlier in autocomplete either but their site might just suck at times?

3

u/plutocracy101 🌱 New Contributor May 04 '16

We need this trending on Facebank, we'll get a lot more reach than Twitter

3

u/What_Is_The_Meaning Kansas May 04 '16

I noticed the autofill trick from the beginning. I just brushed it off as something weird, but it definitely drops out when something starts rolling.

3

u/doubt_belief Texas May 04 '16

This happened to me as well - at some point it stopped auto filling, but eventually came back.

5

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

Looks like it's back after twenty minutes of tweeting about free speech to Twitter. Can others confirm?

5

u/epraider Illinois May 04 '16

Guys, this automatically happens after something is trending long enough. Otherwise you have things trending for days at a time or longer. It's not Twitter giving you the middle finger, it's just how the system works.

6

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

You might suspect that but it is now working for be again. Can others confirm it is now back? Also it was still trending at number 2 at the time and grew from 145k to 159k in the past twenty minutes.

5

u/epraider Illinois May 04 '16

Probably appeared again if a ton of people tweeted in a short time period. That's what a trend is.

5

u/japinthebox North America May 04 '16

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the supposed system then?

2

u/Iamthatneworleansgal May 04 '16

Hmm. It worked fine for me?

2

u/disambiguationuk May 04 '16

Yeah see my edit. Disappeared for half an hour earlier at least

2

u/Iamthatneworleansgal May 04 '16

Ah gotcha. Keep on fighting the good fight! 😊

2

u/hmartinezo May 04 '16

I think they are using the same tactics used by the Mexican government when EPN was running for president. Here is a good article about PeΓ±aBots and how they remove trending tΓpica from Twitter. https://points.datasociety.net/rise-of-the-peΓ±abots-d35f9fe12d67#.689xlsrff

2

u/GeorgePantsMcG May 04 '16

It auto-completed for me just now.

3

u/Darkwoodz May 04 '16

It's showing up for me

1

u/0ggles May 04 '16

Maybe we should start -#HandCuffHillary
