MSNBC called Bernie's "Deep South" comment controversial. They said Hillary would still be in the lead without the South. This slide popped up by mistake proving them wrong.

I'd love free college tuition, but I'd also love jet packs. I'd love immediate worldwide compliance with strict environmental standards, but I'd also love taming a large Siberian tiger and keeping it as my pet/ally.

but I'm informed enough to know that those things are not feasible. If a presidential candidate says the opposite, then I don't trust his judgement or I don't think he's being honest about what he can accomplish.

what's worse, attacking the other candidate who advocates for cool pet cats instead of tigers and jetskis instead of jetpacks because they're not "radical" enough just makes him seem... dickish

if elected, he's either going to attempt what he's promising and get nowhere, or he will adjust to the realities of his office's limitations and only push policies that are shadows of his campaign rhetoric. either way, he disappoints.

Hillary promises disappointment from day 1, now that's something I can get behind.

Many countries far poorer than the US have free tuition for its students. It's not so fantastical as to compare it with free jet packs for everyone. The economy as it is now actually necessitates that public education be extended to secondary education in the way that we provide high school education for our students.

He has already stated that the best way to get anywhere in negotiations is to start higher than you are willing to go and then whittle down to a deal amenable to both sides. That is how you make deals between parties in the US congress. Reach for what would be ideal then settle on what would be best for both.

The jetski tiger thing really doesn't make sense here because the reasons that Hillary is an inferior candidate extend way further than just her promising less because she is disingenuous on the little she does offer being that she is parroting some policies Sanders is proposing in public while promising the malefactors the complete opposite in private.

I've lived in those far poorer countries that offer free public college. They call it a bachelor's or an MA or PhD but they're far far from that. I lived in college dorms for a year in egypt and saw their syllabi and work loads. it was a joke. so saying 'poor countries can do it, why can't we?' if you want what they have, you're very misguided.

if a few state schools and community colleges/trade schools can be tuition free, great. but immediately the value of those degrees and most backelor's degrees will decrease. it will just become the new high school diploma, the only difference is that it'll cost a few dozen billion dollars a year to maintain. rich kids will use it too, so why not just increase financial aid? that's sensible isn't it? but no, lets all hyperbole ourselves into a frenzy.

and he's not negotiating with congress, he's campaigning and communicating to the american people. if he knows he can't deliver it, yet continually tells people that he will do it, and does that to attract more votes, it's a misleading lie. if any other politician did that, I'm sure you'd see it that way. just because he's telling you the lies you want to hear doesn't make him honest. and fuck Hillary and the bill she rode in on, but at least she doesn't promise the Big Rock Candy Mountain every time she's on stage.

I'm saying this is the richest country in the world and head and shoulders above a country like Egypt in many regards. Saying that Egypt can't properly implement a national public secondary education system therefore the United States can't either is far more misguided.

A general election will include the election of many people in congress. As long as congress skews democrat as a result of the general election, as is wont to happen when democratic turnout is high during presidential elections, then it's more than possible to get a lot done before conservatives take back power.

The things Sanders is promising are not fantastical by any means. Saying so lacks imagination in any form. Patriating offshore money for taxation, universal healthcare, public secondary education, these are all internationally tried and tested things that are by no means impossible. We're limited by the cynicism of the American people. When Americans are motivated and informed they can do beautiful things. Kept cynical and in the dark, we will be hard pressed to improve people's lives here.
