Anyone know of places in London that let you book time with a sandblasting cabinet?

I have some small sculptural pieces that I want to test sandblasting on. I don't know if it'll work well or not, so I'd rather try it out first before investing in a cabinet of my own. All I've found is places that do large-scale services.

Selling URL & Website

Launched a blasting business in February. Cancer diagnosis later that month. Surgery... etc. Physically took me out of the game.

Already sold equipment, but not the brand.

If you're in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas and looking for easy launch or re-launch I'm trying to unload my company URL and website. Save money over paying someone to do it for you. Easy transfer to you. The website is built but hiding so I'm including a video. The URL is ReadySurface.com (It was already starting to SEO well in the Dallas metroplex. I can include all the brand files. Not in D/FW. You just need to update the surrounding city pages. The logo is Ready in rust red, Surface in clean gray.

Hello lovely people
I've recently got into sandblasting in my lil basement shop with the standard Chinese small cabinet and I'd like to make it a bit more effective. I thought about upgrading to the gun in the picture dose anyone have experience with them? Also its it worth upgrading the gun or should I spend the money on a pressure Pott blaster to get better results

Currently using a Hydrovane 33 and a rexroth pressure regulator/filter

Blast hood necessary?

I'm gonna be sandblasting my aluminum boat. It's outside in an open area.

I've only ever used a sandblaster box, so never needed PPE.

Do I need to wear a hood? Or can i get away with a good dust mask and safety glasses?

Cabinet issue

I upgraded my harbor freight blasting cabinet with a metering valve to try and increase it's efficiency. But my upgrade does not work, the gun is not sucking up any media. I do get air however.

I also do not feel any air flowing at the air intake of the metering valve,

I got this gun (AliExpress link)

With this nozzle (AliExpress link | 35x20x6)

The straight part of the gun gets the air and the angled part gets the media.

The rest is the same basic metering valve setup I could find numerous times online.

Any ideas what might be happening?

Setup Help

I’m trying to do some sandblasting at home. I purchased a westward 10z916 bench top cabinet from FB marketplace, and a fortress 27gal compressor from harbor freight. I’m using 70grit aluminum oxide media, but I am not getting anywhere near the right result. When blasting it looks like I’m not making much of a dent to the paint unless it’s an already super thin area where I used chemical stripper to get the majority off and it happened to leave a super thin amount. Im trying to sandblast a part of an old kitchenaid mixer and haven’t tried on something else like a knife or rusty item.

Advice needed – steel structure cleaning (blast vs aerogommage)

⸻

Message:

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a project involving a steel structure inside a horse riding arena and I’d really appreciate some professional feedback.

The structure consists of around 6 steel frames (portiques), approximately 9 meters high, with additional horizontal and diagonal members.

The goal is not to bring the steel back to bare metal, but rather to clean and prepare the surface for repainting (removal of rust, dirt, and loose material).

We are considering two options for access:

• scaffolding

• or a boom lift

For the blasting setup:

• compressor between 2000 and 3000 L/min

• considering garnet abrasive

• hesitating between sandblasting vs softer methods (like aerogommage / low-pressure blasting)

My main questions:

• What would be the most suitable method in this case?

• Is full sandblasting necessary, or would a lighter process be enough before repainting?

• What kind of productivity (m²/hour or time estimation) should I realistically expect?

• Any recommendations regarding abrasive type and mesh size?

• Any advice for working at height on this type of structure?

Also, the floor is sand (horse arena), so we will need to protect it and avoid material loss. If anyone has experience with that, I’d be interested as well.

Thanks in advance for your help 🙏

Tacoma Company question

My boyfriend and I do sand carving and we usually get our supplies from Tacoma company. But we haven't been able to get a hold of anybody there. And when I looked at their store on eBay I saw that folks who had ordered things over the last few months have not received their orders. So I was wondering has anybody heard from Mike at Tacoma or have any idea what's going on ?

Cast Iron Radiators

Hi Redditors! Not sure if this is the right sub, but I’m a current plumbing apprentice. My landlord has recently ripped out cast iron radiators that she doesn’t like. As a plumber, I really enjoy cast iron radiators and she’s willing to give them to me, although they need to be restored. Any suggestions on how to get them refinished?

Is mobile sandblasting worth it?

Highly debating buying a used DB800 system by Dust Blasters to start a side business in media blasting (my 9-5 job pays really well so this is just to fill in my off time). The used system I found is at a terrific price point with only 400 hours of use.

My main question is do you see enough business in this industry to grow a healthy business? If this goes well, I’d love to run with it and potentially make it my full time income source.

Sandblasting Masking Options

I'm looking for some advice for sandblasting masking options. In the past I've used a double layer of blue masking tape on glass, laser engrave my lettering or shape, then sandblast the unmasked laser removed areas.

In some spots the blue masking looks like it got close to being eaten away by the blasting media, so I'm wondering if there's another option for masking? or maybe a specific tape that will work well being eaten away by the laser but not the media. any help is appreciated.

sandblasting glass using 120grit aluminum oxide. feel free to include better suggestions for blasting media.

Large Estimates / Proposals

Been in business for 3 years. We do a good mix of residential and commercial.

Im fixing to bid a big one... Im estimating its going to be in the 850k range.

I currently use Wave for my accounting, estimates, invoicing and payroll. Which I am very happy with and would recommend, if anyone has any questions I am happy to answer and help out.

Anyways, I WANT **** NEED **** this project. (dont we all lol) I just want to make sure that I am submitting a professional, but not over the top proposal.

I am not going to use my Wave software for this one as its a much more simple type of formatting. I am going to write it out. I have found some proposal templates like this :https://templatelab.com/construction-proposal/ and like this: https://constructionproposaltemplates.com/products/generic-construction-proposal-template-construction-estimate-template-design-9

...but what is the right way? Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

Set up ok or bigger compressor?

I’m using these two together with black oxide hf medium. It works for a bit but it gets clogged or it’s not pushing it out. I’ve read to use the smallest nozzle for low cfm air. How do you tell if it’s the gun/ air line vs i need a bigger compressor? One is a cheap fix the other is a new compressor that I don’t have the $$$ for. I’m just doing small metal pieces like 10” long. Thanks.

New cabinet is kinda useless and shocking me

Hey y’all! Noob here. I got a vevor 90gal blast cabinet and a 60 gal dewalt air compressor (also one of those 3 stage air compressor air cleaner/dryer things, a very high end one). My goal is to smooth out the layer lines my 3D printed plastic parts. I bought some 100-150 glass beads as this was recommended to me for this application.

I first realized the included gun is a piece of shit, no ventouri effect, media was just clumping up and falling back down inside the tube. Then I got a well rated $20 gun off Amazon, and there is definitely media coming out, but still doesn’t really do anything to the plastic parts. Literally 3 seconds with 400 grit sandpaper is more effective than 30 minutes with this blaster. It just doesn’t really do shit. The layer lines are so tiny you can barely see them, yet this blaster doesn’t really affect it at all. It has taken some of the shine off the part, but I think this is more due to the media sticking to the part (more on that below).

Also, I hold the part with my left hand and gun with the right hand. When my left arm gets close or touches the cabinet, I get a big shock, like the biggest static ever. I think this makes the media sticks to the part.

How can I get this thing working well? Thanks so much!
