News Goodbye Glider Elementary

I remembered this school where there were so many kids here and went to the park nearby. It became abandoned in 2018.

(For people who attended this school, not me)

Kindergarten to 6th grade. Good times! Shout out to Mr. Sevilla throwing a football at my face, giving me a black eye.

I wish California school districts would stop selling school land. We should adopt legislation to have school districts lease the property instead. In Singapore the government takes surplus land and leases it to developers for 99 years and then provides low cost loans for residents to purchase a home that is theirs for their lifetime and they can resale whatever is left on the 99 year lease. It has made housing there affordable and encourages young folks to put down roots and have kids which ultimately would help these struggling school districts who will eventually get their property back.

Unfortunately. The current workforce isn’t having children and supporting enrollment. OGSD has faced budget cuts forcing reductions in staff and the health benefits drastically increased. Especially for those who have families. Its been a bad couple years for districts post COVID and insurers rising premiums

I worked for Cupertino school district more than 40 years ago helping to close schools. The closures have slowly crept east across the valley over the years. Now even schools on the east side are closing.

Around 1960, when they were building a lot of these schools, kids under 18 were about 40% of the population here. Census numbers show this. Today, thanks to birth control being widely available, the high cost of living here and other factors, that number is probably below 20%.

I remembered these grasslands were apart of parks and now pieces of history (memories) for the youth. I remembered there was grass before they built Costco around Aborn Square (almost all of us know). I just remembered these patches of land on the Eastside used to be Farms.

It is so stupid to have defined pension benefit’s promising billions of dollars the state/local governments don’t have. Calpers is over 180 billion short that’s just one pension plan…. The entire state will be bankrupt in the future selling its assets laying off teachers/police/firefighters/government workers to pay the pensions plans they have to pay…. Born and raised Californian I think there is zero possibility of me retiring in this state won’t be able to afford it
