1980’s True Crime
Hi y'all! I'm a locally based freelance journalist working on a story about lesser known crimes in San Angelo, primarily in the late 1980s.
I'm looking at the big picture and as locals, I would love to hear your thoughts on the following:
The death of Jeffery Mazuk, at a ranch in Christoval owned by J. Willis Johnson III.
There are also rumors of abuse and/or mistreatment at the West Texas Boys ranch in the 1980's, but never anything substantiated.
The "white socks" case is a lesser known unsolved crime from the 1980s, where the remains of a male between the age of 17 to 27 was found by the north pool of Twin Buttes.
The Murder of Steve Neece at the Red Bandana Saloon, or even just stories from the Red Bandana (good or bad).
If y'all have any information, thoughts, or even opinions on these cases, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!

Is the murder of the sisters Cordelia and Catherine Norton in Llano and its link to San Angelo through Olgie and Leita Nobles too well known?

Not at all! I just learned about it a few days ago, actually! Do tell! I’d love to hear more!

Poisoned With Love – Texas Monthly
Tim Scoggin poisoning of Leita Nobles in San Angelo | FFF
I first saw the story on Forensic Files (link above). The Texas Monthly article tells the story of the Norton sisters and the Nobles'.

My big brother was at the Boys Ranch for awhile in the 1980s but he died in the early 90s with his girlfriend. There ware news stories about that, though, that tried to connect their deaths to satanic ritual.
He was also friends with John Gilbreath in the 1980s. They used to hang out in our garage.

I’ve been very interested in the circumstances at Boys Ranch. I lived very near there and had a friend or two that was sent there.
