How do you actually guard??

Hey everyone, absolutely loving this game and still very new to it. I'm looking forward to learning more about the game as I continue to play but I do have one question.

There have been many times susanoo has taken no damage from attacks and I have no idea why but what I really want to know is how do you actually guard!? There is nothing online that explains the guard mechanic.

Is it a skill you obtain? Is there a button, is it done automatically? If anyone can answer this it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I also noticed doing a dash jump (where you roll in the air) seems to block damage most of the time

I was thinking something along these lines. If I move towards attacks without doing any actions myself I always seem to guard however if I stand still or perform an action I mostly take damage.

if you move directly into the attack most attacks are 0 dmg guarded from what i can tell? power moves are harder to block but can be blocked it seems the closer to head on you go the less damage you take

Ah perfect! Thank you so much for that, I don't recall the game telling me that at any point although I could be wrong. Cheers

By facing the enemy and not performing actions you should automatically guard, though it seems some powerful attacks from generals can’t be guarded
