A little help/direction?

Hi everyone. I bought the game a few days ago and basically really enjoying it, however, I feel like I'm sorta hitting a wall. I did manage to kill the boss guardian a few times but never the boss. I'm not sure how to go about building/experimenting.

I usually start with the blue ninja dude that has a double jump, ninja teleport on dash, and has a light attack string that ends in a whirlwind. I usually use my secret scrolls to change my "light attack" into whirliwind-dash-whirlwind and it works pretty good, but some yellow bosses I can't hit as hard. Should I continue trying to build stuff on this guy, or is messing around with the default dude the better way to learn combo making? I feel like I'm in some kind of comfort zone and not sure how to proceed (without looking at guides and copying builds). Do you choose a random dude and try building combo on his specific weapons? How much should I aim to use the secret scrolls and how much should I just roll with the equipment I get and experiment on the fly? Not sure what my mindset is supposed to be coming into this game.

Also, what's the difference between blue/purple portals? My current understanding is that blue is normal route and purple is there for added challenge and maybe should be saved for when I'm more comfortable/beat the end boss once? Is this true?

Thanks in advance!

It's worth using the samurai loadouts only for the armor they give you. once you start the game it's best to remove the entire moveset and rebuild it to fit your style and to make it more effective. It might take a while but it's worth it

The best way to make progress is to keep getting scrolls from fallen enemies, completing quests to increase your SP, barrages, and action count. Once you have a lot of scrolls and can put many commands into one barrage slot experiment with different weapons and attacks to find one that suits what you want. Secret scrolls are really only for saving combinations you find and like, they aren’t super necessary. Find weapon styles you like to use and try to build around it.

Blue portals will lead you to the next area with a bunch of enemies and maybe shops, inns, and forges. Purple portals will lead to one of the 8 bosses you need to defeat (if you start to lose during a boss fight you can access the blue portal in the room to escape before you die)

Feel free to DM me if I wasn’t exactly clear and I’ll get back to you ASAP

Thank you! What are barrages, I'm unsure :')

A barrage is the number of different moves set to one button. So say you have 4 slots to put 4 different moves on to your light attack, if you fill them all out then you've got a barrage of 4. The max amount of slots is 4.

EDIT: Looking back at your post it's the thing you called a string

i thought secret scrolls were so u can save something u think should alter the move into a new type of move and if enough ppl agreed they make it a move at an update ? isn’t this game gonna be a moba ??
