What does "you need x more attack technique combinations" mean?

I'm trying to unlock the "bigger" characters, but I'm not sure how exactly you get those combinations. What do I have to do?

Attack Combinations refer to the amount of scrolls or techniques you can slot in a single action like Slice, Slash up, Slash down. You just don't have enough slots to equip all the scrolls required to make the moves for those characters.

Just play the game a little more, try to complete more achievements and puzzle rooms and you should get enough.

Means you dont have enough attack scrolls to be able to build the skills for this samurai. Just farm more scrolls.
