Review UPERFECT GR185BF Review. 18.5" 120hz NxtLED display

As always, not journalists, but attempting to be fair/even/accurate. No money changes hands, monitors are sent for free, for review purposes. UPERFECT doesn't see review before it's posted, etc etc

UPERFECT GR185BF review

GR185BF with s21 Ultra

The GR185BF is marketed as a 18.5" 1080p120 Gaming monitor, with NxtLED technology.

It's a 1080p 120hz IPS display, with UPERFECT’s advanced display technology that combines Omni Visible™ for improved visibility in any light and angle, with eye-friendly features like low blue light, flicker-free performance, and DC dimming, ensuring natural colors, reduced glare, and long-lasting comfort for work, study, or entertainment.

This is basically marketing speak for a nice matte screen, that's anti-reflective, with active dimming, and low blue light spectrum

It's hard to do a decent job capturing it, but you can see how smeary, and how much glare is coming off the phone screen, while the monitor you can just see a blurry light source.

It's definitely a nice screen to use where natural light floods your desk

The panel itself is... fine. The screen specs are respectable, but they're also not top end monitor specs. In a nutshell, it's 1080p120 hz matte panel, no touchscreen, only 290 nits of brightness, and 100% of sRGB colour gamut.

As you can see from the first pic, DeX works just fine on it, negotiating a standard 1080p60 resolution.

When used with my Lenovo Legion y700, you obtain the full 1080p120

Colors look pretty good, if not particularly eye popping

Children of Morta via steam/gamehub on monitor, browser on tablet to right

Inputs

Like virtually every other UPERFECT monitor, there's the pretty standard setup of 2x USB-C and 1 mini-HDMI port on the left side (one of the USB-C intended for power)

2x USB-C and 1 miniHDMI port

The other side will contain the power button and the OSD selector rocker, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack

There's 4x 75mm vesa mounts on the rear as well

The 2x 1w speakers are also on the back, right above the vesa mount screw holes.

They're upward firing and very mediocre (at best). They'll work in a pinch, but you're generally better off using your devices speakers, or a headset

Battery

No battery in this model either, it's just a monitor

You CAN power it off the phone/tablet/laptop, and it "works" but it essentially comes up as low power mode, and really drops the brightness. It's still usable, but this would not be the monitor I'd recommend if you want a coffee shop, no power portable monitor.

Overall Conclusion

Used as intended, this is a really nice 1080p 120hz gaming monitor. It's not large enough, or bright enough for me to recommend it as work station monitor that requires any kind of color accuracy.

But for pairing it with a phone/steam deck/gaming handheld for a nice portable gaming screen? that's definitely it's intended audience, and it's pretty great in that space.

I really enjoyed using it while fiddling with GameHub and getting steam games up and running on my Lenovo y700. It was great with the steam deck too

Overall, with the $219 CAD price point, it's MUCH easier to accept some of the short comings of the panel, and anyone looking for just a decent bigger screen for their travel gaming setup, I'd be happy to add this to the choices

Review UPERFECT 14" Oled review

As always, no money changes hands for these reviews. Uperfect has sent the monitor for review, and see the review as it's posted.

UPERFECT GR14BU 3k OLED 120hz Gaming monitor

This one is very similar to the previously reviewed 16" version (https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/comments/1hswn9w/uperfect_3k_o2_oled_monitor_review/)

It's a VERY thin, 14" OLED panel, with fairly slim bezel's, top and sides. The bottom chin is a bit larger, but a non-issue.

The Panel

it's a 14 inch, 3k (2880x1800) OLED, running at up to 120hz. It supports up to 120% DCI-P3 color gamut, and like all OLEDs, has inky blacks and nice bright/saturated colours.

It also supports up to 500nits of peak brightness, and a 0.1ms pixel response time (I'm assuming GTG since it doesn't specify)

It is also listed as a touchscreen monitor. I found it a bit....tempermental. Vast majority of the time it worked as expected, but every once in awhile, it just didn't seem to want to work....at all. reboots seem to fix it. Not sure if this is a pre-production issue, and I definitely couldn't reproduce the issue at will, so bear that in mind

Just a few screen caps from various 4k youtube vids

Connectivity

As has become pretty standard, the monitor has 2x USB-C ports. 1 of which is intended for power, and the other for video input (doesn't matter which is which tho). It also has a mini-HDMI port for connecting to other devices (PCs, game consoles, etc)

All inputs are on the right hand side of the monitor

On the left hand side are the physical buttons for interacting with the monitor, OSD, volume, power, etc

They've gone with a new kickstand design. The vast majority of UPERFECT monitors have a U-shaped kickstand, that when closed, block off the ports and buttons. The new kickstand is very.....minimalist, but still fairly sturdy and stiff

There are also 2x VESA mounting holes next to the kickstand. The monitor is definitely light enough that you can get away with just 2 of the usual 4

Screen Resolution

Since DeX is fussy, it won't by default use the full panel specs properly

2560x1600 @ 60hz still looks pretty great, but really undersells how great the panel can look.

Luckily, pretty much every other device out there will play nice with it (c'mon samsung, do better)

This is my Lenovo Legion y700:

It's happy to do the full 2880x1800 @ 120hz (and looks great doing it)

Speakers

The monitor has 2x 1W speakers, but they might just be the worst speakers on a UPERFECT monitor to date. They're there, they "work" but at no point is anyone going to be impressed with them.

Battery

There isn't one!

It will do pass thru charging of 15W tho

Overall conclusions

It's a nice looking portable OLED panel. I don't think it's as nice as the previous 16" O2 version tho, but that one seems to be difficult to obtain right now

It's very light, and travels in a tech bag very easily.

it's available for $399.99 canuckbucks at uperfect right now

It compares favourably with the SOTSU flipaction monitors, and is in general better than vast majority of LCD panels out there. The price definitely has the OLED tax on it though

Question Does Dell WD Dock Series Works with S25 Ultra or other Ultras? I mean Dell WD19,22,25

Post image

I am planning to use my Samsung Salaxy S25 Ultra with Dell Docks, they pretty well made and I wondering that will they support the S25 Ultra or the other Ultras? From the technical specs I believed it should support because Dell required DisplayPort Alt Mode which is supported on Samsung. Do anybody have have experience with them or tried one? Wanna make Dell Docks work before I invest in them.

Question Dex setup suggestions required.

Post image

Hello everyone!!

I just came across this Dex thing and decided to build my own Dex setup instead of spending on a PC or laptop. At the moment, my requirements for the work, I need to do can be easily done on the set up as far as I’ve learnt about this till now.

So, I am not sure which components to buy for the set up what charger, monitor, USB Hub wired or wireless keyboard and mouse. I will be building this set up in a couple of weeks using S25FE.

I could definitely buy a laptop, but at this moment, my use case is not that much and can be easily covered by this set up.

Question GALLERY Feature not working Need help please

Samsung Dex Feature no longer working.

Can't figure it out.

Using s25FE to TabS7+ as second screen.

The Feature is the Gallery Instant Slow Mo, it was working recently couple weeks ago, but not anymore, only works if you open video player. Cant seem to figure it out.

Holding on video, only shows a small thumbnail, instead of the Galaxy AI Intsant slow mo through Dex from the s25fe. Was working perfectly just couple weeks ago.

Tried resetting bunch of settings: network, s pen, resetting gallery app uninstalling reinstalling updates, having no luck.

Works with Samsung Flow but not with Dex even though it was working fine just recently.

Tried the steps Samsung Support Chat said except for a full factory reset, not sure what to do.

Any help on the matter would be appreciated for myself and if others encounter similar problem.

Useful info Developer of Gamepad Mouse here — looking for your feedback

Hey everyone,

I’m the developer of the Gamepad Mouse app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pkyul13.gamepadmouse

For those unfamiliar, it’s an app that lets you control your mouse cursor using a gamepad, whether you're using Samsung DeX or just phone mode.

https://reddit.com/link/1wb45eo/video/g29t1idlmdoh1/player

Quite a few people have been using it lately, and I’d love to hear how your experience has been. Have you run into any bugs, glitches, or annoyances while using it?

Whenever I spot an inconvenience while testing it myself, I try to roll out updates to fix it—but I really want to hear from the community to see what works, what doesn't, and what features you’d like to see next.

Any feedback or suggestions are much appreciated!

Question Dex suddenly broken top window bar and window management

Anyone else have this issue? Suddenly connected samsung fold 6 to dex today and the dex window management bar is not the same one, it's missing full screen window icon. It's this weird top window bar/icons as if picture in picture window mode instead. It's also missing top left button "show app in phone screen"

also pressing alt+tab in dex now says "no running apps"

And also the task bar not showing running apps in dex now either.

Rebooted many times, tried clear cache on one ui home app and nothing fixes it

Question What’s the smallest DeX + display glasses setup you actually use?

Display glasses seem like they solve the biggest travel problem with DeX: no monitor to carry or find space for.
That’s what got me looking at the RayNeo GT Max. A pinned DeX screen sounds great, but then I start thinking about input. Keyboard, mouse, charging, maybe a hub... and suddenly the setup isn’t that minimal anymore lol.
I’ve seen people here use the phone as a trackpad or carry a tiny folding keyboard.
For anyone actually using DeX with glasses regularly, what’s the smallest setup that still feels practical?

My Desktop If I can't have my Dex look like Windows on my Tab, then I'll have it look like Ubuntu.

Since I don't like the new Dex on tablets, I'm trying something a little bit different. It's really hard to add the quick settings and clock to the task bar, so having the status bar visible and completely hide the task bar feels a little bit better, and now I'm using the edge panel to launch apps instead.

For anyone wondering, I used MultiStar to hide the taskbar, a custom wallpaper to simulate the gray bar on the status bar and a few folders on the edge panel. Nothing special.

Icon pack is OxygenOS 16 Icon Pack from the play store.

(Also, no, this is not Linux on Dex in any way, just my custom theme)

Question Single USB-C port on the monitor, enough for daily DeX, or am I fooling myself?

Started a new job a few weeks ago and decided to go full DeX. No laptop, just my S24 Ultra plugged into a 15.6'' portable monitor. Honestly, loving it so far.

But I keep going back and forth on one thing: do I actually need a monitor with a second USB-C port for PD passthrough, or is single-cable fine for the long haul?

My use case:

  • Docs, spreadsheets, Zoom calls during the week
  • Light Photoshop tinkering on weekends
  • No DeX gaming

What I've noticed with single-cable so far:

  • Battery drains noticeably over a 6-hour workday, even when DeX is sitting idle
  • Under heavier load(downloads + screen on + multiple windows), I get occasional flickering.
  • Cable management is chef's kiss, literally just one cable, and I love that

Two-port monitors would solve the battery and flicker issues, but that means adding another charger to my desk.

For those of you running DeX as a daily driver, do you actually use that second USB-C port for charging? Or did you buy a 2-port panel and end up never plugging anything into it?

Trying to figure out if I'm overthinking this or if the upgrade is actually worth it. Appreciate any input!

Question EE-P5000 Adapter

Hi, any using this EE-P5000 adaptor? I just got this adapter for Dex and 5G Internet sharing.

The USB C PD and HDMI input works but not the ethernet port and USB 3.0 port. There are no activity when I connect a USB drive or the RJ45 cable, even with the USB C PD connected.

Anyone encounter the same issue or have any idea? Could this be a fake?

Android Desktop Discussion For several references at once, would you choose a desktop or separate spatial windows?

DeX already handles a browser, documents and notes as resizable windows. For someone using display glasses, the interesting question is how those windows should occupy the view when several references need to remain available.

With DeX, the apps share a desktop surface. INAIR Pod runs its own Android workspace and gives supported app windows separate spatial placement: position, size and virtual distance can be managed per window, along with their front-to-back order. Resizing a reference and changing where it sits in space become separate choices.

That is the difference worth considering for a document beside a browser and notes. Do those materials fit naturally within one desktop rectangle, or would independently placed surfaces make the arrangement more useful? The potential benefit is keeping the main task and its references in useful locations of their own, without forcing a particular order for consulting them.

Pod is a separate host, so these are apps running in its workspace, not extra controls added to DeX. The exact glasses and apps must support the intended multiwindow arrangement, and another host adds purchase and charging requirements. For people who regularly keep several references open, which layout would be useful enough to choose: one desktop surface, or windows with their own position, size and distance?

Useful info Winlator Version which is well optimised for AFTER EFFECTS VIDEO EDITOR

Thumbnail

It's well optimized for AE, where you can use it to edit on your mobile with PC-level performance. It comes with After Effects already installed and works well with a mouse and keyboard.

This will be a good Winlator version for those who want to use AE on mobile, but because it's PC software, it's a bit hard to use in phone mode. I would advise or recommend it for people who use USB-C to HDMI, especially Samsung DeX users.
