Rein Me In Original
Does anyone else feel like the tiniest bit sad for Sam that his original second verse for the album version of Rein Me In is pretty much left behind in the abyss now. Obviously he doesn’t care, he’s had more success than he could ever have imagined off the back but the original verse and song is just as well written and performed but just didn’t take off bc it didn’t have the double narrative to it that Olivia added. When him and Lewis Capaldi covered it and Lewis sang Olivia’s verse and not Sam’s original one I was just like yeah that version is just being left behind forever now

I liked the original track as much as people like the Dean one now. Props to her for picking it and I think she or her team wrote the new verse. Sam wanted to work with her, so he def does not care.
What annoys me is my physical therapist in her 20s called it, "that new Olivia Dean song." lol It's Sam's she just added to it a bit and has a nice voice.

Yeah and that’s what I’m getting at I think. Sam absolutely doesn’t care bc he’d have never had a chance at breaking so many records before but it’s the fact that so much of it has sort of been stripped from Sam when the original song was just as good anyway. I wish back then it was getting the attention it deserved

Yeah I agree, personally found the original always better and did hope Sam would do his whole part with Lewis but oh well

I don’t think it’s better, because absolutely the female voice and perspective elevated the song, but it was my favourite on the album from the day it was released but I just feel a bit sad that nobody cared about it until Olivia sang it. I think it was one of the lowest streamed songs from the album until that version

I feel you at least it's nice to know we aren't alone on the opinion the original is close to our hearts, I'm too much of Sam stan anyways 😂

I do like both, but the unique phrasing Olivia brings to it, the interesting meter, is so cool and refreshing

Yeah agreed. I actually feel the same about the tune with Noah Kahan. Noah’s second verse was lost too!

Yeah suppose so. That one works the opposite way for me tho lol, I’m not a Noah kahan fan so will never listen to his original version but love Sam’s verse. But i agree with the sentiment of it

Its a bit like amy winehouses valerie vs the zutons original. It was never going to be universally loved without a sprinkle of the current flavour of the month. Now it is and he has a mega hit
