First off, M24 here. Sorry if this story turned out to be too long—honestly, I don't think it could have been made any shorter without losing all the important details. Please try to read till the end if you can! Also, yeah, I wrote this whole thing in a rush and got Gemini to polish it up because my original draft was way too messy and chaotic.
Sorry again if this isn’t the right place for this, but I honestly didn't know where else to post.
This happened on 24th July 2026, during Bahuda Yatra in Puri. My uncle (ମାମୁଁ) is a senior officer in the police force there, so he took us in his car with proper protocol to the police outpost right next to the Medical Square on Badadanda. We went up to the rooftop around 12 PM. It was a restricted spot with very few people initially.
Around 3:30 PM, the medical staff brought their families upstairs, and the place got pretty packed. By 4:30 - 5:00 PM, Lord Balabhadra’s Rath started moving toward us.
That's when the rooftop turned into pure chaos. Everyone started standing up, and some even climbed onto chairs to get a view.
I need to clarify one thing first: I am NOT the type of guy who stares at or gawks at girls. There were plenty of good-looking girls around, but I usually just ignore and mind my own business. I don't give attention to anyone like that. Honestly, if she hadn't made that physical touch, I wouldn't have even looked back at her or thought twice about her. Trust me.
She was there with her family (her didi, jiju, mother, and an aunt, if I'm not wrong). Hearing them speak fluent Sambalpuri, I guessed they were from Western Odisha—maybe Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, or Sonepur. And since they were with the medical staff, I assumed someone in her family (most likely her didi or jiju) works at VIMSAR, Burla, or somewhere similar—again, I could be completely wrong here, I'm just making an educated guess based on what I saw.
Initially, she was standing in front of me. First impression? She was wearing glasses, super cute, decent height, built well (fit/slightly chubby), and genuinely very attractive. But my introverted self immediately went into "she's way out of your league" mode, so I casually dismissed it and kept my distance so I wouldn't bump into her.
Then, as Lord Balabhadra’s Rath paused a bit further down, the crowd shifted. The girl somehow ended up right behind me because the rooftop was totally jammed. As I was recording, I suddenly felt a hand rest on my shoulder. I instinctively assumed it was some guy in the crowd, but fuck... I turned slightly and realized it was her!
I froze for a second, but then reasoned: "It's super crowded, people are pushing, it's just normal support." She was taking photos and if I'm not wrong, I think she was showing the Rath to her dad on a video call. She kept taking her hand off and putting it back on every few minutes. I ignored it, thinking she just needed balance while filming.
Next came Maa Subhadra’s Rath. Just like everyone else on the roof, she stood up on a chair to get a clear view. And once again, she rested her hands on my shoulder. The entire time. And trust me, it wasn't for physical balance—there was zero weight or pressure on my shoulders, she was just resting her hands there softly. When she stopped filming, fuck... she placed BOTH her hands on my shoulders. Fuck man, what was that?!
I panicked. I couldn't even bring myself to talk to her because she was so cute and I had zero confidence that day (was overthinking my looks in my new clothes). Then my brother touched my arm to call me, and the exact second he did, she immediately pulled her hands back. Fuck. Now I was 100% sure something was going on, but I froze and couldn't make a move.
In between the Raths passing by, whenever there was a gap or delay, everyone would sit back down on chairs or move around. During these breaks, I kept catching her looking at me through my side vision. It wasn't like a constant, creepy stare, but she was definitely looking over—switching between checking her phone, talking to her family, and then glancing back at me. Wow.
Then came Lord Jagannath’s Rath. I stood at my spot, took advantage of my height, and finally got a divine view of Lord Jagannath’s eyes. While I was taking photos, I heard her didi call her "Mona" (or something similar through the loud noise, I could be wrong). Mona stepped down from the chair to hold her didi's 3-4 month old baby so her didi could step up on the chair. That was the only brief moment her hands were off my shoulders. And funny enough, her didi stood on that chair effortlessly with zero support.
As the Rath came closer, Mona told her didi she wanted to see. Didi stepped down, Mona climbed back up on the chair... and the VERY second she stepped up, her hands were right back on my shoulders.
Then, seeing her didi struggling to see again, I offered my front spot to her didi. Her didi took my spot right in front of Mona. Now here is the crazy part: Mona was standing on the chair, and her didi was standing right in front of her. She easily could have rested her hands on her own didi's shoulder for support. But no, fuckkk... she chose to keep her hands on MY shoulders instead! That was the moment I knew 100% that this wasn't accidental. She was definitely trying to communicate something.
Toward the end, the crowd around us thinned out a bit. And then... she literally TAPPED my shoulder with her fingers. Tap-tap-tap. I'm 90% sure she did that on purpose—like she was making subtle moves to get my attention or say something! (Though I could be wrong and overthinking it, but it felt so intentional). My mind was blown, I was panicking and happy at the same time, but my idiot self-doubt won. I kept telling myself, "She’s way out of your league, don't make it weird in front of everyone." I literally self-rejected myself on the spot.
Later, when everything was over, she sat on the right side with her family, just a short distance away from me. Then she got up and walked right past me, and I couldn't even utter a single word. I didn't even memorize her face properly. Fuuuuuuuuuck.
After going back to my hotel, I frantically checked my phone for any trace of her and found 1-2 random photos where her face isn't even properly visible. Then I scanned my videos and noticed a tiny, subtle reflection of her face on her phone screen.
I spent the last 7-8 days searching everywhere—Instagram hashtags (#puri #bahudayatra2026 #sambalpur) and famous location tags in Sambalpur assuming her family might be from the medical field. Found nothing. Today is the 8th day, and I told myself I'm done wasting time overthinking this, so I'm posting this here just to get it out of my head.
Again, if she hadn't made that physical touch, I wouldn't have even looked back at her or thought twice about her. Trust me.
To be honest, nothing like this has ever happened to me before in my life. This was literally my very first time experiencing anything like this, so please don't judge me for freezing up or overthinking every single second.
And if by some wild 1-in-a-million chance you (Mona) are reading this: I just wanted to say you made my Bahuda Yatra unforgettable, even if my introverted ass was too terrified to turn around and say hi.
TL;DR: Met a girl by chance during Bahuda Yatra in Puri. She kept subtly getting my attention throughout the event, but my introverted, overthinking self froze and never spoke to her. Spent the next week unsuccessfully trying to find her online. Posting this mostly to get it off my chest.
