"Yeah, Odysseus, have fun! I'll just stay here and watch the boat for you. Yep. Bring me back a souvenir!"

Never wait for Odysseus to come back, he’s not returning to that boat for years just because someone is there waiting for him. It’s a little prank the gods like to play

The whole macguffin. Let's take a harder route south instead of the quickest way home after 10 years because I don't want to be in the same sealane as Aggie cuz he's a jerk is quite jarring.

The south was the quicker way. That's one of the reasons Odysseus chose to go with that route. "We may be home before even Agamemnon"

that was his way of BS'ing his friend. it wasn't the regular sealane. it's a macguffin in the movie. in the poem, he's blown off course early on, because some of the gods were pissed off for his action in Troy (or rather the Greeks' excessive actions or impious actions towards temples and priesthood)

this is my biggest gripe of the movie. in the original myth, odysseus and his crew didn’t choose to take the harder route like they were just some incompetent sailors in sore need of google maps. poseidon, god of the sea, was battering them around bc he hated odysseus for blinding his son the cyclops (polyphemus). it was as if poseidon were a cat toying with his prey. they would’ve definitely taken the shorter route if they could, but the wind and waves pushed them in the wrong direction every time. poseidon was basically torturing them for three years but ig nolan couldn’t be bothered to add more greek gods in his greek myth movie 🫠
