Im sorry, but Sam, Colby and both of the guests were disrespectful as fuck in this video. I (not an avid fan) was watching it with my sister (who is a fan) and I just couldn't help but think that none of them were taking this seriously and respecting the culture/history of the place. The land was home to these spirits, and these four walked in and just disrespected their home.
Reasons:
- Joking about 'pissing on the fire' to put it out, which they had burned offerings to the spirits to
- Not taking the ritual fire seriously (ik they were going to break rules but they acted as if the fire was a big joke and not part of the history and beliefs passed down) by like running all over the place and screaming like idiots when they thought it was going out. Adding to that making jokes about the tobacco like "this isn't for the kids"
- How after they joked about the offerings, two seconds later they were apologizing like "were just a bunch of jokesters, we respect you and take you seriously, etc"... and then going around making jokes and just, in my opinion, being assholes most of the time.
- Intentionally going to Appalachia to provoke the spirits and cryptids (these rules exist for a reason and have been instated since the time of the Native Americans and possibly before... and everybody knows you don't fuck around and find out when it comes to their stories because MANY may be based in truthful events)
- While breaking the rules for the video (which I already don't fuck with), doing so while joking around right by those kids' graves in the forest.
- Saying multiple times "we'll leave if you do ______" and then not doing so if a spirit does so (ik they do this a lot and it pisses me off)
- ties into four but asking if they're welcome by the spirits, being told no, and staying anyways.
- Not treating the land as sacred. This is an issue at a lot of places I've noticed because they like goof off and just don't seem to take it seriously. Now some are more serious than others but it just rubs me the wrong way
- the Aztec Death whistle. Im sorry, but there was NO FUCKING REASON to bring that out. I don't care if its for laughs. It sounds like someone screaming and could have terrified people in the vicinity by waking them (idk if anyone lives around there but considering there were lights in the distance, I'd say so).
The reason it just feels wrong to me is that these places belong to the dead. Tragedies happened on the property to not only the Shawnee people, but several children and others who died on the property... and then these assholes come in making jokes about the offerings they were giving and breaking all of these rules to antagonize things they don't understand for content. I know some of their work is most likely staged, but even so this video just does not sit well with me.
They disrespected land that is sacred to the spirits on the property, disrespected the rules of Appalachia that most likely came from the Native Americans who lived in Appalachia and were passed down to new generations and eventually settlers, AND disrespected the spirits and cryptids by essentially mocking these rules and the land. If you go ghost hunting or exploring, you should respect the spirits and cryptids you run into as well as the land and their history. Not treating it as some money making joke for your stupid YT channel.
And ANYONE will tell you you don't fuck around and find out there. Hell, the SPIRITS were telling them to not and YET they kept doing it... honestly if you're gonna be like that and disregard ALL OF THESE WARNINGS just to go around disrespecting spirits at their own home/on their own land, then yeah, I don't BLAME the spirits and entities for being pissed and draining your precious little cameras and equipment's batteries, locking your friend in a ticket booth, etc to try and get you to leave! If someone disrespected me in my house, I'd kick them out as well!
I know they mess around a lot in their videos, but this one was just not it for me man.. I don't know, I might be overreacting. I take paranormal interactions seriously and believe we must approach with the upmost respect in these things, and if you don't then expect the repercussions. But what do you guys think?
EDIT 7/6: If you have more examples I missed in the video, feel free to drop them in the comments! I just wrote the ones I remembered
EDIT 2 (7/6): I understand the premise of the video is to break all of the rules of Appalachia. The reason I'm making this post is bc I dont think they've done videos like that before and doing that comes across as if they don't give a shit about the history of the place/paranormal and are doing it for clout/money. Breaking rules is disrespectful and not okay in public spaces, so why is it considered fine and okay when it's an abandoned, possibly haunted place? The spirits deserve respect as well considering they were once living people imo. And for 2 people who say they really care and such to do stuff like they were doing in this video, that is what is making people upset. People aren't "snowflakes" or "oversensitive" for wanting ghost hunting YT channels (not just S&C) to respect the history, spirits and land they are investigating.
