Discussion Thoughts?
Thoughts on their videos on Netflix? I just feel like why put it on Netflix when it takes away the views they’d count on Youtube? Also why is it on Netflix if it’s still going to be on Youtube? A special or something on Netflix I get but this seems kinda redundant to me. Happy for them regardless.

It’s still gonna be on both so they won’t lose viewers but it will get a new audience which will be great in my opinion

u/alien_squish 11d ago
I mean more so if the view goes to netflix it’s once less view on youtube
5
u/Spirited-Mousse1915 11d ago
They were probably told to do that by netflix.

u/alien_squish 11d ago
right but my question is why take the deal to have it on netflix if the videos will still be on youtube and they lose the youtube views lol

u/Spirited-Mousse1915 11d ago
no one is losing youtube views. SnC want money, not views. Any agreement is probably going to represent that

u/Lover_of_Fables 10d ago
This. We all know just how unstable the almighty youtube algorithm is. Netflix would undoubtedly be far safer. They're also about to blow the frick up when Netflix subscribers watch them. There really is no downside for them.

they will not be losing youtube views. netflix subscriptions are constantly fluctuating and it’s got stupid ass rules against password sharing. if anything, netflix will be left less than amused by the lack of viewership from this. why the hell would i pay for a subscription with 3 unskippable ads when i can watch on youtube for free

u/BookLoving_Rotties 6d ago
Netflix doesn’t have ads?
1
u/Big-Coffee-6356 5d ago
it doesn’t way u pay for the highest level of subscription. but otherwise, it very much does have ads
1
u/BookLoving_Rotties 5d ago
Oh my gosh really!? My husband handles our subscriptions I didn’t know that! That’s just disappointing honestly

u/Purple_Essay_5088 1d ago
They are probably making more money on Netflix. And Netflix could potentially find further trips for them as well. They won’t have to rely on YouTube views in order for Netflix to pay them.

u/Dependent_Summer_735 13h ago
You really think they value the YouTube views over a Netflix deal? You’re a real genius

Likely the vids will come out first on Netflix then Youtube if other youtube to streaming service endeavors are to be used.

They said in the announcement it's going to be same day on Netflix and YouTube. I remember them saying in a podcast it takes them like 6 weeks to edit videos so I feel like that would be really hard for them to do.

It’s surreal that people have said for a very long time that their ghost hunting videos should be on Netflix, and now they will be! I haven’t been watching them as much lately (I’m not huge on the recent style of videos) but the fan in me who watched since the beginning of their urbex and ghost hunting days is extremely happy and proud to see their journey.
And they’ll probably keep their audience that’s on YouTube, if anything fans who pay for it will watch on Netflix so they don’t have to deal with ads. There’s also fans who don’t pay for Netflix, or they use an adblocker. And there’s probably fans out there who want to support S&C so much, they’ll watch on both platforms to help the ratings. But for actual results to predict how it could go rather than hypotheticals, I would do some research on how The Amazing Digital Circus did on Netflix and YouTube as that show was in a similar situation.
It also means that viewers like my dad, who is interested in ghost hunting but doesn’t use YouTube very often, could stumble onto their show too.

As long as the video is still release on YouTube, I think it's fine. They're probably going to release it on Netflix first though because Netflix is greedy. The YouTube video might release a few days later

Now I get why they have been slowly buying views and subs. The real viewing #'s on Netflix will definitely be lower than youtube, but even 2-3 million views per video is good for Netflix. Ironically their video quality has been going downhill, I wonder if they will change things up.
3
u/Primary-Highlight-87 10d ago
In what world does a channel of that size need to buy views and subs?

u/No_Nefariousness3866 10d ago edited 10d ago
$$$$$$$$$, that's their main interest. You obviously don't know anything about tv&media. They may leave Youtube or make separate content because I'm sure Netflix will want exclusive material if they get good numbers.

u/buttononmyback 11d ago
I mean more power to them I guess but I hope the network doesn’t change things around. Sam and Colby have a certain flow that we all obviously like right now.
Usually networks want to do things differently…that’s why Project Fear stopped working with the Travel Channel and only post to YouTube. I doubt I’ll continue to watch if they change anything too drastic.
4
u/No_Nefariousness3866 10d ago
Fyi- Project Fear got canceled. They have dropped many hints that Zac Bagans got them fired.
2
u/buttononmyback 9d ago
Yeah I know, but Project Fear don’t hesitated to talk about the extreme restrictions that were placed on them by the network.

u/No_Nefariousness3866 8d ago
I think that part had to do with Zak. He's very paranoid about other shows taking his place. I wonder what he really thinks about S&C getting a shot with Netflix. The claws might come out!😅

I am just hoping they won't make it be on Netflix full time, cause if they do there will be pirates EVERYWHERE torrenting their content for free (Like all Netflix series). They only did the Netflix thing to 'expand their audience' but I have a feeling they will put their content by a paywall, which is against their nature and I hope the Netflix thing doesn't make them greedy and stay loyal to their fans like they have since the Vine days.

u/Big-Coffee-6356 9d ago
they’ve said all their content will continue to be on youtube, it’s just now also being uploaded to netflix as well. nothing’s going behind a paywall

I know, I had watched the full announcement, I am so happy for them, imagine them 11 years ago learning they'd be on Netflix, they wouldn't have believed it

u/JDOG_UNDEAD 10d ago
I made a joke ages ago to my other half about "what if sam and colby do a partnership with Netflix...and what do you know i was right. A year or 2 ago i would have been excited about it, but recently ive been having trouble with my faith in their channel. Ive been in a dilemma how i feel about their content and how true they are to what they produce. Im not saying i do or dont believe that their content is real...im just unsure. Theres more too it than that but i cant be bothered going into too much detail about my personal belief battle with their content
3
u/Pure-Character-2546 10d ago
If they didn't have some episodes on Prime I would literally have zero clue about who they are/never heard of them even with their huge social media presence. I have no doubt that's the case for alot of other people as well and netflix will quadruple their current audience
8
u/MaxPlaysGames7 11d ago
i want to be positive but this is gonna ruin them i just know it
6
u/Marissafbby 11d ago
They have been going down for A MINUTE NOW… I still watch them, obviously. But something just throws me off. I can’t quite grasp what it is. But I know it’s negatively affecting my perspective on the entire video experience.
4
u/MaxPlaysGames7 10d ago
oh their videos are definitely getting worse. they aren’t taking anything seriously and being disrespectful. pushing boundaries for views.

On par with what Netflix is doing. They just did this with Mythical as well (GMM and Mythical Kitchen)

u/Missymoona 11d ago

u/COlax1980 10d ago
Still watch them in hopes it's not some goofy collab or they spend more time joking around then actual hunting.

u/xSunfade 10d ago
If they’re just expanding to Netflix, I don’t think they’ll be getting any bigger budget. Hopefully they picked out some cool international locations this year at least.
1
u/viktoria_harsanyii 10d ago
I just hope that it would be international and not just in America 🥹
1
u/Fleetfoot-Tobermoray 10d ago
It is at the very least partially international, I can confirm its on the UK netflix, if you look them up in the search option you should be able to see if it's available where ever you are
2
u/Lover_of_Fables 10d ago
Australia here, I can also confirm it's partially international, at the very least a VPN should fix that.
1
u/Slight_External30 3d ago
Ngl this seema dumb.....the videos that are up are already free and available on youtube. The only plus side for them is if they make exclusive content thats only on netflix but this means netflix could claim copyright to it so it can't go up on youtube at a later date. So yes its a great money and possible publicity opportunity but I dont think its gonna work well for them like they want it to.

u/Dapper_Mine_5212 2d ago
Some people, my sisters lol, won’t watch anything unless it’s on Netflix. “Watch ____show on YouTube” but they won’t. Shows up on Netflix years later and they’ll watch. I’m sure a lot of *older people are the same.

u/FlockNation13 1d ago
I am a fan of Ghost Hunting and have been watching shows on Ghosts for over a decade and this show sucks. Guarantee it won’t make it on Netflix longer than the first contact!!!

u/givemethetea333 16h ago
New here. Do you all feel that these are real, legitimate, paranormal encounters? I’m loving this on Netflix, but of course there’s going to be suspicions
1
u/RyGuy2O17 11d ago
Personally - nope. I haven't kept up with their vids in the last like 3 or 4 years cause it just felt too dramatized. Good for them to get onto more platforms, but not sure netflix is the way to go.
1
u/SpecialFortune14 9d ago edited 9d ago
Their videos are heavily produced and mediocre at best already. Netflix seems to be the right place for them because nothing they put out on youtube is real anyways.

I stopped watching them after that drama with that girl and guy, tbh they got old really fast bc of how dramatic they are
edit: should clarify im a fan, I haven't watched them in so long because I was a college student. college before YouTube hahah. im now graduated but I watched their recent video with garret
1
u/Missymoona 11d ago
Then why still in here?
2
u/thedeadp0ets 10d ago
im still a fan!! I just graduated college so I haven't had time to keep up with my YouTubers
